Definitely agree! I’ll literally go searching for those kind of videos on KZread and that’s what helps inspire us other doll collectors is seeing the process of others and seeing it in a different kind of view.

What a lovely haul to receive ❤ maxi looks great .I never saw her here in ireland in the 80s.

I love the Retro Candi (Charice/Charisse specifically) dolls. IDK how they compare to Barbies of same era, but the bodies feel so solid and have a lovely figure, perfect for retro clothes. I learned about them through someone asking ID on a doll, then did research on Hamillton Designs/ Mikelman/etc., and it's a pretty interesting story that I can't remember clearly now lol. They were very high quality, had incredible fashions, and unlike many Barbies, never had a baby face look. They got sold, changed designers a few times, and eventually Integrity got them. At one point, they had one of the original Barbie designers on their team.

Wow!!! So cool and generous of Ken, I am sure you both enjoy a wonderful friendship which is awesome!!! I have to AGREE w/you on the dolls all brands not too exciting and lacking value and workmanship from face paint to clothing... I do not mind paying more for a beautiful piece of a art A DOLL in my case. When my eyes do not see the product as beautifully done or well thought out, I cannot just blindly buy it or anything for that matter. I think it's better to have lovely objects / of anything you collect, that you truly enjoy then a whole collection that do not bring joy!

I pretty much feel the same - it is basically "Dolly Burnout" (who's just been announced for the next series of Drag Race). Like you say, there has been so many releases over the last few years that now it feels we have fallen into a lull and it gives us a chance to try and catch our breath and really look at our collections and also the state of new releases now. It feels like, for me anyway, that I've seen it all before and that what I'm seeing now is a pale imitation of what has gone before. Putting that to one side, congratulations on your newest girls - they look fabulous.

Congratulations on the new job! Ken sent you some amazing dolls. I had a Santa's helper Candi doll. I believe I got her from another collector. Sadly, she was lost during a move. I'd love to see the real friends girls in detail. They look super cute and detailed outfits!

I totally understand you, I also get a lot more pleasure from the old 80's Barbie's than the cheap looking Barbie's of today, the old Barbie's came with much better quality hair and clothes and extra accessories, the weight is also very important to me with Barbie's, they give me a nostalgic feeling. I did like the Barbie Looks dolls but after a few weeks i changed my mind and sold all of them and now i stick only to my 80's Barbie;s that give me joy to see them on my shelves and now how proud i am to own this nostalgic Barbie history in my collection.

Congratulations of the new job! Hope it goes well. Great seeing you and I agree about older dolls, much better quality. I've been focusing on buying 90's swim suit dolls and restyling them. It is a doll drought for sure, not much interesting.

That's exactly why I collect only '80s and '90s Barbies, the dolls and the fashions are out of this world compared to nowadays products! You could shoot videos about your vintage dolls make-overs, as I do! ;) Hugs from Italy! :D

Totally agree with your assessment of the new release dolls -especially Barbie. I wish Mattel would stop churning out these manky color reveal and animal disguise dolls. And please Mattel no more painted on clothes with their hollow legs. The only new Barbie I will be getting (if lucky) is the Silkstone Skipper.

Great dolls. I love the Maxi dolls. They replaced the Jem dolls but couldn't compete with Barbie. But they have a wonderful presence of their own. Thanks for all your opinions and I agree.😊

i had almost all of those. the Real Friends....i totally forgot they existed. they had harder heads, so getting them to pop-n-swap with Barbie's more articulated dolls was a challenge

Love your content and congratulations on your new job. I appreciate the perspective you bring and the thoughtful commentary. As a relatively new collector (2021) I am surprised how quickly my enthusiasm for Barbie has waned. I loved BMR and the LOOKs line and right now I am barely excited. My focus this year is to revive my boy dolls and find articulation for them. I have so many great sculpts for male dolls but very little variety of body types and shades. I have turned to action figures to articulate my slim kens but they are too muscular for the characters I hope to articulate. My action figures have balanced my collection to include Asian males and females and customizing these figures has become a side hobby.

I love tbe Candi doll! She is so pretty! The Best Friends have gorgeous outfits - so detailed! I wish the playline Barbies still had clothing like that, or that Naturalistas did. This video made me want to watch the Maxie cartoon - I love the wacky stuff from the 80s.

Same here... mostly collect 80s 90s Barbies. I love the big hair and great quality. Im also loosing interest in the new dolls. Im concidering selling all new dolls and just collect vintage. ❤

I feel you and I’m going through something similar. I have always been very picky on what dolls I buy because for me articulation and good hair quality really matter and a doll really has to “speak to me” in order for me to buy it and right now I’m slowing down on buying new dolls because I’m getting statisfied with what I currently have. I already have dolls of all sorts that I wanted and I recently got my holy grail, which is a small BJD and I’m not interested in the Rainbow High reboot. This week I got Barbie Looks 24 in the mail and I adore her and she was the one I was looking the most forward to, but she might be the only one of wave 4 that I’m getting. Maybe I’ll get the new Petite looks doll if she goes on sale. I’d love to get my hands on Looks #19 but I refuse to get a Mattel Creations subscription just to get her, so I’ll just keep looking online on second hand marketplaces until I find her for a good deal. For me that might wrap it up. I’d love to get some more high quality clothes for my Barbies, though.

I've been feeling the same way about new Barbie dolls, and while I do like the 4th wave of the Looks line Mattel no longer ships to my country so they clearly don't care about me (and any country in South America), and that really made sad and made me think to they really deserve my money? Anyway, I'd LOVE to see some "old" Barbie related content! That bunch of restored Barbies you showed made me really curious, and I'd also love to see your Barbie clothes catalogue 😍

Honestly I've been avoiding doll videos because I'm so tired of the new doll videos. They come across more like ads than true reviews because no one seems passionate. I think we're just in a bit of a doll drought. I'd love to see more videos giving love/unboxing of old dolls.

We are in a doll drought, some collectors said...compared to the last few years, when Rainbow High & LOL were pumping out dolls so fast. And right now all the doll lines are slow. It seems. I can't get to the thrift store very often, otherwise I love to get dolls that way too. Where are you, that it took 4 months to get Bratz ?

I know what you mean...the change in Rainbow High is such a let down...its sad.😢 And Barbie...I did get Looks girls & love them, but other releases are blah & cheap. MH is good, but I'm tired of them running out of stock so fast and/or others so expensive! Mattel doesn't care about their customers.

I just watched Joey from Beauty Inside a Box and he expressed a similar sentiment about this recent "reveal" Barbie trend. I never got into RH or LOL OMG dolls, so even though they are beautiful and their quality was exceptional when they were first released, it has always been Barbie for me. I mostly thrift the older Barbies because of exactly what you mentioned - they just feel more substantial. I find their face screenings much better than what is available now too. And I have nothing against the Millie face sculpt, but there are SO MANY of them! I miss Teresa, Kira, Christie... they felt like individuals, not just another "Barbie". It's not as exciting going down the Barbie aisle anymore..😢 So maybe we all are experiencing a dolly burnout at the moment... I'm quite jealous of your Ashley doll! I have an original Maxi doll and though I don't think she was ever as glamorous as miss Barbie herself, she is also quite heavy and solid and has survived decades without going loose in the joints. Love to relax watching your videos, thank you!😊

Thanks for sharing your unboxing with us! I'm also bored and unenthused about dolls at the moment and have even spent considerably less time on Instagram these past few weeks. The Monster High folks seem to have it pretty good right now with a lot of interesting new releases, but I don't collect MH. Rainbow High was the only doll I collected, along with some LOL OMGs, and both of those lines seem to be on the decline. I still like the ones I have but don't really want to accrue more. Whateya gonna do.

Yeah I'm feeling a lot of the same way I lot of the new dolls just aren't all that appealing to me. It's sad but they just aren't my taste I've been into dolls for 26 years now so I've seen everything by now. So I'm thinking I might just enjoy what I have until I really want something I do want the new rh characters and barbie dream besties, wild child and may e a few unicorn academy but I feel like the good days of dolls are coming to an end soon. It may be another doll dark age soon which is alright.

i think Mattel is coasting on their Movie dolls. I've been buying my current dolls off Aliexpress and the KO at Roses (videos out on Friday)

Yeah, you shouldn't force yourself to buy dolls that you don't want. Save your money for actual good dolls in the future.
