@@JosephJoestar888 I have both. Both feel polished. The steam deck is more comfy and to play any more demanding games you need a charger on the Ally like all the time. The Deck has a MUCH better battery life and two trackpads which I did not think I would use them that often but they are a Bless! I also like the Steam UI and resposiveness much more. The Deck is also more stable with the FPS and does not flaxuate that often and with the Deck. I would go with the steam deck if you don't play Windows exclusive games that have Anti-Cheat. I think the ROG Ally and Steam Deck have their Pros and Cons. You need to decide if you want to game without a charger but have less performance or with charger but have more performance. Also think that the ROG Ally 2 will also use a custom Linux Distro to juice out even more Performance and Battery.

My windows 11 and windows 10 crashes pretty frequently. All I’m trying to do on it is play games lol. I hate windows but it is what it is. If you pick up an rog ally couldn’t you just install Linux and default to steam big picture on launch? That would fix the problem right there.

aged like milk how? I've had my Ally for a week and it already hanged 2 times that needed hard reset. Touchscreen on windows is annoying, sometimes keyboard won't automatically open. I love my Ally but windows really is a sht OS specially on handheld.

Yes, because the Windows 11 guarantee you will not have problems with Proton ... not all Games and MODs are compatible with Steam Deck

Having Windows 11 is EXACTLY why I'm looking at the Ally. I can just dock it to an external monitor and use it as a normal PC.

I personally have the ally and so far have not had any of the problems hes discussing. Works like a champ. Not being a fanboy. I honestly expected pc issues like normal. But so far its been smooth. 1 issue.i had was the virtual keyboard didnt come up once. A restart fixed it and havent had a issue since. Especially after all the updates have been completed

@@walternicol4151 just don’t force turn off your device for the first 2 weeks that you have it. Remember to install all windows updates, then disable automatic installs. That basically prevents all black screens from occurring.

Windows 11 is absolute trash, coming from someone with buyers remorse. I've gotten the blue screen, which fixed itself thankfully, updates ALL the time, sketchy almost forced MS account in order to finish setup? Also has an antivirus running at all times, if you manually end it, it will just come back or flatout deny your request. I dont know this dude, but that is a solid reason to stick with a steamdeck, especially now with the OLED, which is also cheaper than this. To each their own ofc.

Have had ZERO issues with Windows11. 🤷

I think mine took about an hour and I was up and running. But if a learning curve using windows 11 on a handheld but once you get the hang of it, it’s great. Been playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on high settings and for the first few hours I had a big smile on my face… feels like the future tbh lol

No it hasn't. It was a leaked prototype that didn't have the dev resources needed to finish. Maybe it'll come out, maybe not, but it's definitely not confirmed or announced.

@@teetogoaroson1392 there aren’t too many small laptops with a decent performance to play most games, most portable gaming laptops are 14” and they cost more or a lot more than this device. They are not worth it imo. This device may not appeal to most people, but it offers portability, decent performance when you are on the go and the price is competitive. Windows is a plus, as it will just get better overtime with updates and gives the benefit of installing many programs and emulators. Some people are just nit picking the device.

Tell me you can't use a PC without telling me you can't use a PC.

$700 is on the lower/decently priced side of things when it comes to these devices. It’s actually great for what you get. I think sometimes we just like to assume the worst case scenario based on other people’s opinion/bad experiences or maybe a bad experience of our own and that draws the line. But in reality the experience has been nothing like the fear of the experience was initially. I think it’s important to take the factual proof of good experiences and let go of the theoretical bad experiences. Also, nothing is perfect.

I may have misphrased my comment, what I meant to say is that when you're paying such an amount (which is still a lot, even though you're getting what it's worth), you'd want the experience to be as inclined to your liking as possible. I do know nothing can be perfect. I honestly agree with what you said after that, experience will always be better than the 30 seconds opinion of someone who doesnt even have experience, but I still think it's important to learn the more you can about an object you're interested in before spending all your bucks on it.

​@Rickoto even the steam deck isn't perfect in canada I had to pay 750 dollars for the 256gb model last year. Some games don't run or you have to switch into desktop mode than launch for it to work. Even games that are stated to work sometimes don't work. The steam deck should have no issues running tales of berseria but it can't unless you run the refresh rate at 58hz. None of the ys games besides ys8, ys9, and ark of naphistam work properly the others have bad issues even tho they are games that ran on the psp. It's easier to emulate them then to run them on steam.

But it would’ve kind of looked bad to have and old version windows that is losing support soon on a brand new system and would’ve cut its life span

Dont get it for me. Always grew up with windows all the way from windows xp. So i was exctird for windows handheld. Never used steamdeck before but tbh for me even if it is pain in the ass i want more options to customize and be able to play w.e i want. So far rog ally is really good for people who dont mind tweaking and trouble shooting. I am loving mine.

I also don’t know how it can be called a steam deck killer when it’s 700$

People hate the forced updates and what not but at the end of the day you're going to need those updates for security reasons and to just stay up-to-date they hate the bloke as well but that could easily be fixed and uninstalled. The armory crate program helps organize all your storefronts and your games. That helps a lot. It's not perfect, but it works. I do not regret selling my steam deck for Asus rog ally!

First off, Valve did nothing special with SteamOS. They did not invent Kde. It is just Arch tested held back with a locked root system. They mainly developed Proton and Steam Big Picture Mode. Second you can’t really legally make a distro of Windows at least not without the consent of Microsoft which will ask you why you need it

@@jimmyneutron129 I had KDE way before SteamOS... I never mentioned that Valve made KDE. I even have KDE merch at home ^^ I already know what SteamOS really is... Just seamlessly gaming without thinking that you have Linux with all the troubles it can offer is just amazing. It is locked down like Fedora Silverblue and Kinoite but you can easily disable it if you want with one custom command they made.

I absolutely love the Asus Rog Ally. It runs and looks so good. Especially for emulating, it’s perfect. Only complaint is the battery life, that’s it.

You forgot one thing it's asus and their garbage support

Just be careful of asus customer support and warranty. If you need any warranty work, you are going to be in for a rough ride.

I own an ally extreme for like a week or so and I love it dude… I can play the most demanding games at medium settings and it’s better than my old gaming laptop and ps4 I would say it’s convenient and more than I need… in other words this shit it’s amazing Best Buy sell it now for 600

The steam OS project is real. Don’t know how good running on Ally Z1 though

Since the ASUS ROG Ally runs Windows, that means I can easily crack my games in the device so for me, Windows is not a downfall.

You can do that on Linux too

The Ally is a monster. Cinebenched it and the CPU scored 13,000 in R23. That's the same as a 10700k or 11600k. And it's a darn handheld! You could literally use it for mobile editing. Blows the Deck out of the water.

What about the GPU, though? The 13600K is an even better CPU, well, CPU-wise, but I wouldn't say a PC running on its integrated graphics is better than the ROG Ally.

@@eribetra It's probably similar to something like a GTX 1660. Decent, definitely behind the CPU in terms of power. I scored 14k today with it. That's quick, definitely has the legs to do more than just game.

Never trust an influencer that talks with his hands and sounds like 1000 other youtubers like they are in a cult.

I have an Ally just make sure your going to all the places updates are found and most of the issues go away. The ability to play whatever i want like a normal pc vastly influenced my decision, without installing new OS.

I love that it has windows 11 it's basically a laptop in your hands

I dont understand why people hate win 11. ive had no problems at all and i like the look of it.

I had an top of the line asus laptop with windows 11 It was good until the mere actuon of open the file explorer completely bsod' my laptop every 3 times a boot

After watching this video an ally popped into my shopping cart.

Got mine and its awesome. It's not hard to figure out the updates 😂 same as having a gaming pc using a controller

A literal handheld gaming beast of a PC and you're complaining about Windows 💀 I'm pretty sure a handheld PC with windows is perfectly fine, especially considering it's better than the competition in all other ways

My ROG Ally with the 7600MT Dock work great together. Ive been a handheld gamer most my life and this thing is the most amazing unit I've ever owned. Windows hasn't been that much of a problem the only other issue I have is the Asus repair process but I am pretty handy so its not been an issue.

I have a piece of software that I was gonna use to keybind to my controller for navigation in Windows but honestly, they have a built in one that works better than I had hoped. Definitely recommend

I've got windows 11 I'm loving it no problem at all

I was about to say, i checked the date on this vid and it said June 15💀 i knew it was june 9 so i just ran to the kitchen to see my calendar and thought "am i in the future?" Then i realized the year was 2023..

Currently docked to my 4k 50 in playing warzone with the ally this thing is amazing my gaming rig gets to chill for a lil now

*I got 4080 NVIDIA RTX i9 13900k pc i dont use it* was hading 4090 nd 3090ti I love playing on consoles a lot more ps5 and series x for relaxing gameplay without worrying about anything that expensive .. well updated : i just bought *I9 13900k 4080rtx pc gaming* *Rog ally z1 extreme* *Steam deck with 1tb ssd* Im testing these units of handhelds if they worth it .. hope so if not i gotta sell em and get ps5 & series x and games cause i hate carring about fps heat cpu or gpu on pcs that take all the fun away and no need to worry about anything really consoles just work huge plus‼️ Steam deck been great for now enjoying it that rog ally still new in box unsed unopened yet .

I had the ally, returned it after 2 days, I just didn't have the patience for windows 11 on a handheld.

In additon, Windows 11 forces you to connect to the internet and a Microsoft Account that is unrelated to the OS.

Literally not, all it takes is just a keyboard shortcut and a command line to bypass it lol

Honestly the only thing that is annoying is the random mandatory (make you plug it in if it’s not) firmware updates that pop up within a black box. Other than that there’s really nothing wrong with it imo. There’s probably ways to postpone updates for later that I don’t know of but still, don’t feel like I should have to do that. Nonetheless it’s not much of an issue since I have it plugged in for the most part anyways.

As a father of 2 under 2 ROG Ally is the best gaming device I have ever played on, I pick up and play literally any game I want when I get a chance, they look great, preform great and doesn’t lack anything a normal gaming device has. Great buy.

Can't you just flash a steam OS bios on the Ally?

Exactly learning how to use Linux has been hell but now it’s okay just got my ally I don’t see me touching my steam deck any time soon

Well a " Gen 1 " device as you called never had windows 11 pro crash on me not even once, no issues, pretty regular Bios and AMD Graphic Drivers updates when there are some crashes or games not working, but windows itself has been a great experience, everything runs and looks great

Got a steam deck with Windows 11 on it, and have had no problems running games.

I've been using win 11 and it crashed once, maybe twice on me and I was editing photos/videos, playing games and other stuff. Now win 11 is almost done project.

Now that the deck OLED is out, the ally is dead in the water.

You can always just downgrade to windows 10 unless theres some software block

man just uninstall latest updates and features for 5-6 times and windows will uninstall the win 11 skin pack and you are ready to go with the win 10

Or upgrade to GNU/Linux like the steam deck (it uses Arch btw 😉)
