You best believe you're in for a treat Jon. You're in Central Brooklyn, so that means you'll be near some great neighborhoods and attractions such as Crown Heights, Sunset Park and Carroll Gardens, as well as basically surrounded by subway lines which will bring you into Lower Manhattan in less than 15 minutes. 8th Avenue south of Greenwood Cemetery is where Brooklyn's Chinatown is thriving, and Prospect Park to me is the Central Park of Brooklyn, with a museum, zoo and other attractions like a roller blading/ ice skating rink and botanical garden to complement it.

Manhattan wasn't even in my radar when I first moved to NYC. I always wanted to live in Brooklyn. My whole reason for this is the vibe. I love that chill, neighborhood culture type of vibe. Manhattan to me (Other than Harlem and Uptown) has that busy vibe. A place I head to work, shop and have fun. Its crazy, even though we live in the city, people who live in the outer boroughs call heading to Manhattan, "Going to the city". Park Slope a great neighborhood but there's so many other neighbordhoods with that same chill vibe. You'll definitely love it there...Congrats

Personally, I much prefer Brooklyn over "the City." In some areas of Brooklyn, you can still get that old school Brooklyn vibe. Bay Ridge isn't far from Park Slope. There is also a great view of large ships entering the New York Harbor under the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge at John Paul Jones park.

Park Slope is a good compromise, one of the nicer neighborhoods in Brooklyn. And you do get quieter and bigger here. Being close to Prospect Park is a big plus. I'm moving from BedStuy to the Financial District of Manhattan tomorrow. It will be slightly less space, there will be fewer trees on the street, but my walk to the subway goes from 10 minutes to 2 minutes, park distance goes from 2 miles to a half-mile or less, restaurant and entertainment choices will be closer and more varied, and after 14 years in NYC, I will finally get a doorman, a health club, a dishwasher, a big kitchen, and heat and cooling I can control. So I think you will notice the remoteness of Brooklyn to get to things you want/need the most. And you might be surprised how many of your friends will think of the East River as some magical boundary they cannot cross, even if they're willing to go to Washington Heights. And I'm only paying $350 more per month for the convenience of being able to walk to the office when it opens again in a few months.

I can relate. If you live in a city, the reality is you’ll probably end up paying for someone’s mortgage while everyone else around you would have bought houses and live comfortably in the suburbs. In my 20s, I also loved living in the city, mocked those who lived in the suburbs, thought I would live in the city or closer forever. Fast forward now, in my 35+ years, I live in the suburb; 20km out of the city, with kids and own a house. Can’t imagine raising a family living in the city with the traffic, cars, lack of space, noise, etc... Good move you made. It’s a step in the right direction.

I use to practice real estate in Brooklyn, my office was in Park Slope, and I loved that neighborhood, though all the neighborhoods in Brooklyn are unique and full of character. I do like the changes to the real estate laws because I always hated having to have renters pay me even though I worked for the landlord. I am sure a lot of places I liked while there is gone, but one thing that is a treasure in Brooklyn is Prospect Park which is much better than Central Park because it isn't a tourist destination, it's just an amazing big park that fits all your needs. My favorite to the park is the Ravine, which is a forest in the park full of paths that was my get away from the city area. Where I could just walk around in the woods and clear my head. Make sure to check that area out.

Parkslope looks lovely. I live in a small Canadian city with many old houses. Probably polar opposite lifestyle here compared to NYC. Here many people own houses and land rather than rent. Outdoor living/activities and enjoying nature are our way of life. Hiking, camping, kayaking, waterfalls, beaches, lakes, rivers, the ocean, national parks, skiing, snowshoeing, skating, fishing, gardening, birding etc. NYC was hit so badly with the pandemic, I hope this winter isn't as terrible for you guys. It must have been extremely rough being locked down in tiny apts.

The Slope is really nice. My wife was over there just last night. A friend has a brownstone there. One of our best friends grew up not too far away in Windsor Terrace. And then there's Farrell's. We came to Manhattan for my Wife's work so we live on UES (Yorkville) for her to be close to her office, but I've worked all over - Midtown, Downtown, even Bensonhurst. Note: fall asleep on the N train (only time I ever got a seat) and you end up at Coney island.

When you are young in your 20's, you get caught up in the hype about living in the "City", bcuz everything is easy accessible and the city never sleeps. Brooklyn has now become another area under gentrification, loosing that cultural identity.
