I want to hear the AC/DC audition fail story! I am definitely not a country fan (although I respect the genre for the amount of fun they all seem to be having) but I have long thought country guitar playing (and tones) were seriously incredible. I love chicken pickin' and hybrid picking! Guys like Daniel Donato are out there using tons of phase and modulation effects in country which also makes me so happy. Awesome video mike!

A lot of modern country is mindless pandering. Where the lyrics are not really lyrics they’re just lists of things that sounds country and lots of analogies. BUT if look at country through the 80’s 90’s and 00’s there some really well written and beautiful stuff . Some of the greatest songs of all time are country.

And for actually great guys that are in the Country scene today (Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, Cody Jinks, Charles Wesley Godwin, and of course Zach Bryan) they're not even Nashville-based. They're not the same level as Hank, Waylon, Haggard, Loretta, Jackson, Strait, Brooks, and others, but they're WAY better than their Nashville pop-chart counterparts. Because for starters, they write their songs and they have lived more of a country lifestyle, they're not just southerners who use analogies. They actually have walked the walk and can talk the talk.

Eventhough it's called a tremolo arm, it's actually a vibrato. Tremolo is about volume whilst vibrato is about pitch. Think of a tremolo effect of quickly rolling on and off the volume of your guitar.

The Fender solid-body Tele and pedal steel electric was literally MADE for country-Western . It was adapted to Rock&Roll. Hardtail Strats are my favorite , which is why I love my Squire Fender ‘51 I just recently pulled my BOSS M-550 out of storage... several BOSS pedals all in one unit.. fewer cables, fewer power supplies to pack. I actually use little besides distortion, reverb/delay and occasional chorus for my entire gigs. I don't attempt to replicate studio post--process effects, on stage. I try my best to NOT multitask on stage. I want an uninterrupted audience connection. Looking at, and addressing the crowd, instead of "fiddling with gear". Some performers on stage look more like they are practicing at home, staring at their hands and equipment. I want my audience to FEEL I am playing just for them, with no self distractions. An as soon as I adopted that, my tips zoomed to sky-high. Like players seldom believe. Not just $20s but C-NOTES... as a solo performer?

Hey brother, love this. As a chicken picking neophyte myself, I’ve found most of the country tone comes from your right hand, your aggressive attack. Hybrid picking, I recommend a thumb pick to start, naturally changes your phrasing. And, plucking strings upward with your index and middle finger gives a super spank that is vital to that sound. I’ve found I can make almost any pedal or amp sound country. Give it a pluck, you won’t regret it. God bless.

I grew up inundated with country music, and for a long time, I rejected it the same way you did. Now I listen to it quite a bit. Country has become all genres. If you sing about mama and have a bit of a drawl, you've got a country song. Doesn't matter if it sounds like southern hard rock, hip hop, pop, or old-school country. Now I've started writing it. Probably going to start releasing country singles. Eventually all music will be country and country will be all music... 😳

The "trem" system on guitars is actually misnamed. It's Actually vibrato because you're changing the physics of the strings and making them drop in pitch. A tremolo pedal changes the VOLUME of the signal. not the pitch. So a tremolo pedal doesn't reeeaaally replace the effect of using a whammy bar. I will grant that most people wouldn't notice or care, just thought it was worth noting

Country for me is going with an acoustic guitar, just plain & simple. As for electrics, I have a couple of Telecasters, But I've also found my LP with P90's can do anything the Teles do and more. Obviously easier to just go with a Tele for the Twang, instead of trying to get that out of anything else though. And I'm not opposed to using a Stat for some C&W sub-genre. I'm sure if I had a Chet Atkins hollow/semi-hollow that would work fine too.

Chet Atkins, Marty Stuart, Kenny Vaughan, Johnny Hiland, Albert Lee, Brad Paisley, Waylon Jennings, Vince Gill, Jerry Reed, Ricky Skaggs, Clarence White, Junior Brown (no particular order). Anybody who says country guitar sucks has never done their research. A lot of country guys really prefer peavey amps for some reason idrk why. All the pedal steel players I know almost exclusively use old peavey amps from the 70’s. The trem pedal was decent but personally I prefer a phaser. Waylon Jennings really pioneered the use of the phaser in country music and the pedal basically defined the entire outlaw era. Waylon used the MXR Phase 90 which I can’t recommend enough. Painfully simple and perfect in every way. And very affordable. And just for extra credit, look into the b-bender. Specifically Clarence White who invented the b-bender with his drummer Gene Parsons. Marty Stuart now owns that exact guitar that Clarence and Gene converted into a b-bender and Marty plays it at every show. He also has a video on the guitar with reverb and would totally recommend it.

Yes, Brad used a Vox AC30 originally. Most of his singles are actually Vox tones than Dr. Z tones. He only transitioned to Dr. Z when he found (if I remember correctly) a Mazerati and played that for a while in the early 2000s. After later collaborating with Dr. Z, he would eventually produce with him amps like the Z Wreck which is iconic to the Paisley sound. And the Z Wreck is based off of the Trainwreck and the AC30 sound. A video by Jim Lill going deeper into the BP sound. kzread.info/dash/bejne/n3WmytWeY9efns4.htmlsi=IDqPFN5R6iflqhxO

I’m a long time player who’s not in the normal demographic who’s made a turn to country. It’s the hottest guitar genre right now as rock and metal died a lot and country is the only very guitar-oriented genre with enthusiasm right now. Neosoul had a moment but it’s already gone. You’re right where you need to be, my friend. Country is about to go diverse and big time in the next few years - a golden era. I’m right there too - much to my surprise

yup and the only modern guitar music that still incorporates the blues, probably why it's still popular and rock and metal went the way of the dinosaurs.
