Why I LOVE Ultimate Spider-Man

Welcome or welcome back to the stash! today we go over the new issue of Ultimate Spider-Man but also we do a massive deep dive into why i love this brand new series! its brought back the hero we all know, love and missed and im so happy to have him back.
PREVIOUSLY;
Twenty years ago, THE MAKER prevented a radioactive spider from biting a young PETER PARKER. He likewise prevented the creation of any other super heroes and formed a secret council to rule the world from the shadows.
Five months ago, TONY STARK sent Peter that same radioactive spider along with a picotech suit and warnings of THE MAKER'S COUNCIL. Since then, Peter has used the incredible powers granted by the spider's bite to fight crime alongside a masked vigilante called GREEN GOBLIN (HARRY OSBORN, Co-C.E.O. of OSCORP).
They met fighting an assassin hired by WILSON FISK, the KINGPIN of New York and a subordinate of the Maker's Council. Fisk is also, as owner of THE DAILY BUGLE, Peter's boss...
But so far, Peter has managed to keep his second life a secret from everyone-well, except his daughter, MAY.
any support means so much, please like, comment and subscribe :)

    MJ's reaction to Peter's secret reminded me a bit of MCU Pepper. Tony and Pepper used to have issues in their relationship because Pepper was never 100% on board with Tony being Iron Man and risking his life constantly. By the time we get to Endgame, Pepper's changed. She's learned that it wasn't right to project her fears on to Tony and make him stop superheroing. She understood that Tony was a hero at heart and she accepted him for the man he was. So she let him continue working on the time travel plan. There's a healthy level of valid concern, which is eventually overcome with love, acceptance and support.

    Richard could totally become the "responsibility" lesson for Peter down the line, but he doesn't actually have to die. There are so many other ways that a child's life and relationship with their father could be affected by a situation like this. And if the lack of development of Richard is an intentional nod to, perhaps, an idea that maybe Peter is unknowingly neglecting his son, it could lead to all sorts of situations that maybe aren't life-threatening, but enough to show Peter that he holds a responsibility to his family above all else. Not that he doesn't already know this, but reinforcing that lesson is just good drama.

    7:37 Interestingly Peter and MJ's daughter(s) have always gotten more attention than his son(s), when this concept originated in earth-616 it was going to be a daughter until Marvel editorial screwed everything up with the stillbirth, and when they did a what-if of the baby surviving, she (Mayday) was the main character of her series. Their son Ben was just a baby, In Renew Your Vows he doesn't have a son but it does have a daughter in Annie/Anna, in Across The Spider-Verse it's the same except his daughter is Mayday instead of Annie/Anna, and in this Peter is the main character of the series and he has a son and a daughter. Still, his daughter has gotten more attention/devolvement. This is not a bad thing it's just something easy to notice, and take note of.

    I love this book. Nothing has topped issue 1 for me yet. That to me was a perfect story. Swapping Peter’s guilt for dissatisfaction was genius. It’s a great story about starting anew. That’s very relatable and brave and something we all need to do at some point. I love how Mary Jane feels like the next natural evolution from what Gonway, Romita and JMD set up with her. She doesn’t have a lot of time in the book but when she does I think she’s great. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I don’t know if they will kill Richard because that’s a bit dark BUT, I can still see them eventually taking Ben. I think this could play into why Harry said THE line in issue 4. Both Peter and Harry want to live up to that life but in different ways. Peter by trying to help the villains and be kind, Harry by killing then, moving them out the way to save the world. Peter could stop one of the villains and leave only for that villain to still escape and kill Uncle Ben. Ben died in 616 because Peter didn’t react, he dies here because Peter reacted. The one thing I need from this book is scenes with Mary Jane and Uncle Ben together with no Peter because I don’t think we’ve ever seen that. If Mary Jane still has her same upbringing there is a good chance Uncle Ben was the father figure in her life. I honestly wouldn’t be shocked if he walked Mary Jane down at the wedding. I want that explored, that dynamic. Showcase the marriage, showcase how different family members interact with each other, don’t be afraid of drama and conflict as long as it’s resolved like adults and I think Ultimate Spider-Man when it’s all said and done could be the greatest run on the character we’ve seen

    Weirdly enough - I have a theory on something. The change to the timeline that Mephisto made in One More Day/One Moment In Time also affected Mary Jane’s character. This isn’t a natural change but basically the change results in something missing in the relationship she had with Peter. Whenever they get together, they are happy for a time, but Mephisto’s magic inevitably pulls them apart. But it gets progressively weaker the more that they get together. Paul may be innocent in the broad scope, but he’s basically the final Hail Mary for Mephisto. Granted this might be giving too much credit to Joe Quesada…

Issue 6 is using the superhuman bit for the Kingpin. I've Never liked when writes portray him as such. But at least they explained it as being augmented ... But still. It's kingpin. Power is his power. But it's a different universe. I can accept that. Peter is naive and trusty. Are we having a downfall of the Green Goblin? PS: It's easy to notice how much you like Spider-Man. Another great review. An interesting and creative intro/opening to the video. I agree with your assessment of the 1st 6 issues of "USM". There are rumors since Hickman has MJ and Peter swinging the city together, Fisk/Kingpin will figure out who they are, especially MJ. Fisk/Kingpin might have MJ killed off. I hope not. We'll have to wait and see what direction this book takes. I wouldn't want MJ killed off after building their relationship in this universe. However, as a SpiderCat fan, if MJ is killed in "USM # 25" or "USM # 50" (if the book lasts that long), then have Peter grieve for 5 to 10 issues. Peter meets Felicia Hardy/The Black Cat, and they become a power couple, Felcicia becomes a stepmom to Richard and May,, and they marry, and have kids together. I wouldn't mind that if Marvel takes this comic in another direction or Hickman leaves after 15 to 20 issues. Unfortunately, the more Hickman builds this storyline in "USM", "ASM" in the 616 universe will never put MJ and Peter back together. Not the final story arc of the terrible writer Zeb Wells or the new writer. I would be in favor of the SpiderCat storyline in "ASM" with the new writer. The best thing for "ASM" is to bring back Nick Spencer, retcon all of what Zeb Wells did, and go back to where Peter was going to propose to MJ and make Paul, the kids, and her time as "Jackpot" all a nightmare. Never happen with Nick Lowe as editor, but we can continue wishful thinking. Keep up the great work. Cheers.

    thank you :) I honestly sat there for 30 minutes trying to think of any sorta of intro that came to mind! it would make sense due to fisk having cameras everywhere but man I hope they dont kill off anyone in the parkers this time. im not sure how old Felicia is in this universe. for this worlds sinister six her dad is in it as the black cat which is...interesting to say the least. with asm I feel like the new writer shoal do what Spencer was doing and have doctor strange sense mephisto has done something to Peter. its a super easy way to do a massive retcon. also f*ck marvel for making Peter waste that wish Loki gave him during the JMS run. literally wasted it if he held onto it for like a couple more months he could've saved aunt may

  • @edg4441

    @edg4441

    Ай бұрын

    @@mnstash Good point about Felicia's Dad. SpiderCat would be highly unlikely in the "USM" universe, but we've seen many improbable situations precipitate in the "ASM" universe. Anything is possible. I hope Hickman continues in this direction. Your suggested retcon about "ASM" is a good approach to erase what Zeb Wells has done during his run, but I wouldn't mind Peter and Felicia getting together in "ASM". I think the Peter and MJ relationship isn't salvageable due the the length of time since "OMD/BND". I agree about Spidey using Loki's wish to save Aunt May. The way "ASM" has ruined Spider-Man these 17 years, the new writer won't retcon anything and bring back Peter and MJ. I don't have an issue with that IF Peter and Feleiia are made a power couple. However, I acknowledge most Spidey fans aren't SpiderCat fans, but IMO that's better than the garbage Marvel continues to publish in "ASM". TBH, I'm not excited about the new writer. it's highly probable, that the new writer is going to be an activist and will write even worse Spidey stories than Zeb Wells. I hope I'm completely wrong about this, but per Marvel's Spider-Man track record, what else can I think? Looking forward to your next review.

    I gotta say....after everything since OMD....after all the writer who have taken dumps all over the hero I've read since I was 5 years old....after them treating Peter and MJ how they have in the 616, after so much frustratio I will say this: A grown man of 38 and I cried reading this one. Tears of joy of the character that formed me in ways nothing else in pop culture has FINALLY getting a win. Tears of frustration that it took so long and they're STILL treating 616 Peter and MJ like shit....this issue broke a dam inside of me that I didn't even realize was there. Peter and MJ CAN make a marriage work, kids work and a little bit older spider is fine! 10/5 stars. This is prolly my fave run since Renew Your Vows.

    Maan, your username give me chills!😂 I understand that feeling, though. Almost all of Ultimate Spider-Man readers, feel the same thing. You're not alone in this one!! And it's okay if you have some tears of joys, because...well, Spider-Man comics didn't perform decent lately.

    Marvel announced the next Spider-Man Writer. The new writer is Joe Kelly. He did a good Deadpool run, but I'm uncertain if he's a good fit. He wrote some issues with Zeb Wells in the current run. I believe the terrible writing will continue. I'm not impressed or optimistic. I'm ready to check out and stop following "ASM". Looking forward to your opinion on this announcement.

    I feel like it's an 80% chance hes gonna be a bad writer for asm and a 20% cache he could be decent. like you said his work that isn't bad is great but his bad stuff on the other hand... I would've preferred a writer that isn't attached to BND but I doubt that will ever happen again

    The issue I have is how this won't work without a LOT of assumptions. Like, why is Matt Murdoch blind? That's how he got his powers. Where is Luke Cage? Did he die in prison? K'un L'un and Iron First, where is he? What happened to SHIELD? What happened to Cap? And that's not touching on how they can't stop mutants and their powers from happening without reinventing the entire world... There's so much they don't answer and it makes the world feel... Implausible, it's like it exists SOLELY for Spider-Man.

    I do kinda agree. To my knowledge Ultimate Spider-Man was the first book they announced, with idea of it being a alternate reality where the Marvel universe was basically put on pause for twenty or so years. Now, the problem I have is that there really isn't a major book around the help kick this universe off, so it does feel like the rest of the universe is built around the concept introduced in USM. But as to your answer on Cap, he was still frozen in ice and was kept hidden until Tony Stark and crew found him.

Yes ive heard some stuff going on in this comicbook line but I just....I hate Hickmans writing style and way of telling a story along with pacing. feels like it takes forever for the story to get anywhere and the dialogue dumps.....holy god the dialogue dumps. Especially with a story with alot of characters like Xmen. The only work of his I liked somewhat was Avengers from 2012

    Traditional romance in today's entertainment is looked with destain by modern (pretend) writers. They, for some reason, hate the idea of a masculine man and a feminine woman being in love and in a healthy relationship. The kind where the man is the dominate one in the relationship, not a control freak but rather someone who just takes charge with confidence, and the woman is the one who follows and is the more nurturing one in the relationship. Now-a-days, it's to emasculate the man and make the woman masculine, who always has to take charge and make the man a cuckold. Sound familiar?
