Why I Love Plastic Door Shims: Respectful Entry

This series of videos shows different ways I use plastic door shims during respectful entry.
Video Series 1: Shims used on an inward opening door. This is replicating the old credit card trick… only this plastic wraps around the door stop/jamb easier. Remember, this technique will only work if the door lock is not installed properly (dead latch falls into keeper hole).
For more information on the dead latch, check out this video:

Video Series 2: Shims are used to defeat a panic par latch. You would find this set up on an outward opening door. I cut a shark fin into the plastic to grab the latch. Once again, this only works if the panic bar doesn’t have a dead latch, or the lock wasn’t installed properly (dead latch not engaged).
Video Series 3: Shims vs. Hotel locks. You will see the shark fin cut out again.

Pretty clever, definitely a step beyond the old credit card trick!

I wonder if the plastic cutting mats from the Dollar store would be the correct thickness and rigidity ? Will give it a try Thanks for taking the time and effort to share your adventures.

Fantastic video. I like to use a "quality" cheap 3 ring binder. The best, most durable plastic I have found. What did you use?

I never thought about using one of those binders. I have tried cutting up old plastic jugs, without much luck. I currently use commercially made ones from Sparrows Lock Picks. I have also used the Firefighter Swipe Tool in the past.
