    Dude, this video hits at the very core of my being. I love physical media so much that I have collected over 3,000 titles on Blu-ray and some TV series on DVD and some on Blu-ray during my lifetime. I consider it an investment.

    I’m so glad that it did. I was hoping people like you who love physical media would find my video. It’s something that I’m so passionate about along with you and the others who have commented. I absolutely agree it is an investment. I’m so proud of the collection that I have created over the years and the fact that I can watch my favorite movies at any time. I love your profile picture. I mainly talk horror movies on my channel but I adore Star Wars!

    Another important thing to note about owning physical media is you do not have to worry about a company “ i’m looking at you, Disney” changing elements or outright removing elements from the film. George Lucas, bless his heart! is also very guilty of this. How many times has that mad Genius changed bits and pieces the original trilogy over the years? I love my despecialized editions of the original Star Wars trilogy, it’s just a shame that they were never officially released. and if studios try to kill off physical media, third-party physical media will rise in popularity in my humble belief. Us collectors are too passionate to just let physical media die. Whether the studio or a third-party seller gets our money for the disk is completely up to them🤷🏻‍♂️

    I agree. I love the option of watching different cuts or editions of films. I wouldn’t want to be pigeonholed into watching just one specific cut. I think that would be the case. So many people are passionate about movies & physical media. The fans would take it upon themselves to keep it alive. I actually ordered something from a third party recently. No discs obviously but packing wise. I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Something that I don’t think would be possible from a studio because of rights issues.

    The 'taking away anything they want at anytime' is the reason I started buying DVD's again. Netflix 'decluttered' my comfortshow and that just made me realise that owning stuff sometimes can be a good thing. It probably cost me a small fortune to get all 7 seasons of that show but at least I have them now and can watch it whenever I want. 😊😊

    I used to own physical media years ago. Takes up to much space and most of it rarely gets re-watched. Now everything is on my own home server now, love it! Everything at my fingertips and i will always have it, no need for physical versions.

    I really like the idea of home servers but I’m just partial to the packaging of physical media. I love looking at my collection and having it feel like my own personal movie store experience every time I pull a movie off the shelf. I haven’t tried it myself but the home server sounds like the perfect blend of physical media & streaming. You own and have the movies at your fingertips without taking up the space of a movie collection. I’m glad you commented this because I feel that a bunch of people would enjoy this option!

    When I was a teenager I used to download songs on my old computer from music and archives websites back in the 2000s, before streaming came along. On my computer there were more than 5000 songs that I downloaded more than 10 and 20 years ago, some songs even dated back from the late 90s. Now I have copied all those songs on my notebook and edited some of them, fixing the metadata such as the title of the song, the album, putting the corresponding image, the year the album was released, the genre of the song, etc. Although they are not physical media, but files, they have the same functionality, since I can listen to my songs whenever I want, without being subscribed to a streaming service or being connected to the Internet, which makes me highly value all the songs that I downloaded in particular, and physical media in general. We have to keep physical media alive.

    For shows ONLY available via streaming and will likely never have a physical release (eg. Granite Flats), I will sometimes do the equivalent of a"VCR" record of them by use of a capture card and and HDMI splitter. But I'd prefer to own most things. It's amazing how many TV shows are having episodes removed, content cut, and original music changed. I recently decided to order the Scrubs DVD series because at least 3 episodes have been pulled from streaming due to controversial issues and a massive amount of the original music has been changed due to licensing costs.

    No physical media isn’t dying it’s not such a mainstream market anymore!!! And a big box retailer pulling out of selling physical media doesn’t mean it dying as most physical media collectors get from the web ! Physical media will be around for years to come as studios want to make money to produce new content ! Disney goes to prove this ( old Disney ) “ we won’t release streaming shows “ looses a lot of money due to going woke “lets cash in and release streaming shows “

    I live in a small town so I mostly do my physical media shopping online but with Best Buy pulling out of physical media I’ve noticed my local Wal Mart has stepping up their selection especially with their exclusive steelbooks. The nearest Best Buy from me was almost two hours away so with Wal Mart taking over it has only benefited me as a collector. I hate that physical media isn’t as mainstream anymore with streaming gaining popularity but they’d be crazy not to release movies & shows physically. Could you imagine how many things would vanish into the void and how much money they’d lose!

  • @jimroscovius

    @jimroscovius

    That may be true, but the problem is that the studios could assume that since fewer people are buying physical media, they won't put out as many titles. Look what happened with 3D - people were buying, but the studios just decided not to make them anymore. And the TV manufacturers decide not to put 3D in their TVs. They easily could have, but they decided not to let the consumer decide. The last bunch of 3D movies I bought were from overseas because studios decided not to sell them in the U.S. It was a self-fulfilling prophecy.
