I sold my copy of New Vegas over a decade ago without even playing it because I always thought it was an inferior product to Fallout 3. Come to find out it's actually one of the greatest Fallout games of all time and watching the TV series peaked my interest enough to go out of my way to find an old ps3 copy and playing the hell out of it lately 🎮

I'd say one of the greatest games of all time in general. I had a similar but not exact experience with GTA Vice City as a kid. All I wanted was GTA 3 and Vice City sat on my little shelf for like over a year because I thought it would be bad for no reason. Then I finally played and was mad at myself for ignoring it so long.

I remember when I was a kid, the internet was still kind of a niche thing. Only like 3 people in my neighborhood had it. I can't speak for others, but seeing a computer was like looking at space age technology and to my friends and I, the internet was this wild west. Crazy to see what the landscape of the internet is like these days.

No need to feel bad man! Things have worked out alright as the years have gone on. It's nice to see how many people can relate though! I grew up quite poor and in my teen years I lived in an area where people were known for their wealth and success and other kids my age were living quite exorbitant lifestyles. So it was rough a lot of the time not even being able to get myself one videogame or something like that because money was tight.

I felt that way about 3 and 4 rehashing the parent/child story. Only for the show to quite literally do it again. Not once, but twice, between Lucy AND The Ghoul. I understand your frustration about the world never progressing. I can’t say for certain as I don’t work at Bethesda, but my guess is their ideal Fallout scenario is almost immediately “post-war”. Not really post post apocalyptic like New Vegas. Maybe that’s why they destroyed Shady Sands? Certainly worth discussing.

@@ratedjentertainment oh man, I have a lot of complicated feelings about the dragon age sequels.. Dragon age 2 I think was massively held back by it's tight 2 year development cycle, along with the misguided decision (in my opinion) to spend a lot of that time reworking the combat system. I absolutely despise the "dialog wheel" that bioware started doing, and dragon age 2 implemented it the worst of of any of their games, most likely due to time constraints. The companions all kind of feel like background noise since you don't really have a hub area where you can really get to know them, and they feel pretty shallow overall, as well as not being able to equip them with armor. My only complaint with the story is that it felt pretty rushed and railroaded compared to origins As for inquisition, again my biggest complaint personally is the combat system. Feels like they tried to have their cake and eat it too being a half-assed action rpg that felt more clunky than any of the previous games. I think the main thing holding inquisition back, though, is that like 60% of the game is completely pointless filler content. The wait times at the war table and the power requirements for missions only serve to make the game longer than it needs to be, but I think inquisition is the second best in terms of writing and player choice

@@brodieorr5393 This is an odd one for me, I agree with you fully and disagree all at the same time. I agree about DA2 being held back by that Dev Cycle. Knocking it out of the park like they did with Origins, then forcing a sequel like that was genuinely unfair to the BioWare, and the DA Team especially. Despite some of the glaring flaws of DA2, I always have enjoyed. It was in my opinion, a step back in a lot of ways, and a step forward. Not being able to armor your companions was a very bizarre thing to me, but in some ways, it freed my brain up a bit to just kinda relax and enjoy the story as it unfolded. There were story moments I felt were very compelling and impactful for the setting. So a little less RPG management helped me find the more poignant moments and it sharpened them for me. Inquisition actually made me appreciate DA2 a lot more because DA2 almost felt like a prologue. Obviously that is how it was intended, but it felt even more so now. Where Hawke and Corypheus would've been lore characters or NPCs, now they have a little more weight and impact to them. Inquisition had an interesting story and compelling narrative, that I think was wrapped up well with Trespasser, but man, did they really fumble the ball with the execution of it. So much of that game just felt like fetch questing, and that was a bummer.

I have to disagree there. I’ve played vanillla New Vegas as an Xbox player for over a decade and loved every second of it. I can’t speak to the modding scene as I have yet to really dive into it, but I’m keen to learn more about it, do you have any mods you suggest? Either quality of life improvements mods and patches or anything more substantial? I’d love to try anything out.

13:00 That abysmal shitshow destroyed everithing and just a big stinky pile of contradiction to the original real Fallout games, I refuse to accept it as canon!

That is certainly an interesting take. While I disagree, I am grateful you took time to share your opinion. I enjoy reading experiences that contradict my own. It’s good for perspective. I will say though, the loss of Shady Sands was a rough one. I didn’t like it and I still don’t now. But I cannot change it sadly. Canon or not, it doesn’t stop us from enjoying Fallout the way we want.

I played NV for the first time almost 4 years ago and i absolutely hated it. After completing everything i knew about, putting no effort into the dlc (used god mod and no clip 90% of the time) i dropped it and it left a bad taste in my mouth. I got a very strange and surprising itch to give it ago mainly because of mod show cases. After modding my game to my preference I can confidently say that I'm actually have a lot of fun solely because of mods making the general gameplay a lot better, smoother and just enjoyable to play on top of anti crashing mods it's a blast to play and i definitely appreciate the game more than I used to. (The rabid fanboys are a huge negative though)

I am glad you’re enjoying it! It always sucks to buy a game and find out you don’t like it or that it’s just an objectively bad game. That’s a feeling I know all too well. I gotta say the gameplay is aging poorly for NV. I used to play it a lot of my Xbox 360 and Xbox One, respectively. But coming back to it years later on PC has shown me how unstable the game actually is. Believe it or not, I know people talk about a lot of Bethesda games being buggy and how New Vegas is one of the worst offenders, but up until I played these games on PC, I never really had any real issues.

There were a few lore breaks that annoyed me, not to mention the complete eradication of the NCR, but overall, I enjoyed watching it. How is New Vegas going for you? What kind of character do you play?

I was honestly bummed about the NCR at first, but the more I thought about it, the more it seems right. Like the NCR likely still holds the northern part of California at the least, and plus because they’re just trying to replicate the governments of the past, the theme of Fallout almost demands that they fall and rise and fall and rise. Because war never changes, if the governments don’t change, they’re doomed to fail

I suppose that depends on your metric. In terms of gameplay and mechanics, yeah, Fallout 4. The way they handled Power Armor, weapon crafting and upgrading, a total home run. But in terms of characters, story telling, and in my personal opinion, aesthetic, that has to be New Vegas all the way. I feel Fallout 4 lacks in that department, but introducing multiple factions to join was a step in the right direction.
