@TeamKatastrophe absolutely no reason to have removed him. If people really didn’t like him a new leaf approach and making him optional woulda been fine. But he taught an important lesson. Your actions matter and no matter what they’ll stick with you to some capacity. Although in the game it’s less so it’s important to teach that and animal crossing does good

I only clicked on this video because it had Coco on the thumbnail and shes my favorite but honestly I related to alot that you said, especially about the ADHD and not having friends but animal crossing wild world was there and it was so magical and full of life and fun, idk why but I felt so nostalgic for the sea shells on the beach. New Horizons feels so lifeless, i remember bugging my villagers constantly and now i dont even wanna speak to them, anyways great video man loved it

When I was 6 I got a DSiXL, and alongside it, my mother bought me Wild World. At first, I didn't really like needing to read everything to understand what was going on, but my mom made her own save file to show me what to do.. which sparked my passion for the series going forward. I'm 19 now, and have a lot of memories with the game, I think you summed up the nostalgia and love perfectly.

I've never thought of that before but now that you mentioned it, I can see how that may be a bit of a turn off to some. That being said, I, along with seemingly most people, never quite had that issue. I've met some in my generation who've played Wild World or just the original on GCN, yet few remember much about it. It is oddly isolating in that lost relevance sense. Graciously there remains a niche yet dedicated online presence that still plays and lauds Wild World for its strengths. The media we consume isn't the end all be all, but I wish to express that this particular game was genuinely formative for me and represents sacred ground for all the numerous hours that it provided reprieve from life's gall. It brings gladness to know that it holds relevance and represents something important to someone else.

That’s how modern gaming is for the most part the older game will always be overshadowed by whatever’s new. But take tears of the kingdom it’s now seen as worse than botw and new horizons is in the same boat with new leaf. II s the initial issue of everyone putting down the older games and seeing them as inferior just because a new title in the series has come out. A lot of people fail to realize soon enough that the newer games aren’t always better especially now where they don’t even release finished most of the time. New leaf and all thst came before it are from the age where Nintendo cared enough to finish their games and not just release it and hope we’re fine waiting months for content we’ve had in the past already in game for said content to release. I understand it may put less strain on developers but I’d personally rather see the game be delayed than see it shoot itself in the foot by releasing unfinished I mean you see how people are talking aboht TOTK and New Horizons now. And I can ageee to some extent

I loved wild world as a little girl, I have adhd too but I was undiagnosed. Idk if it’s the same for others but for me adhd means I have to learn everything the hard way 7 times over. Wild world was like practice for socialising. Idk how I had friends, I was so lucky because I truly had no idea how to interact with people. Even though I had good friends I often felt very lonely because my childhood was kinda traumatic and I had no idea how to talk about it. Wild world was an escape from all that and I could also bring all those emotions to the game and somehow work through them virtually. It taught me how to be more okay with the loneliness As an adult it’s kinda shocking how mean those villagers can be lol, but as a kid that was just life so it never bothered me. Deena was my favourite villager! I was also enemies then frenemies with Olivia, looking back I’m amazed it was possible for me to have such complicated feelings about my interactions with a character. That’s unique to wild world imo!

This video is so nice. I remember loving wild world and I had a childhood playing animal crossing with my neighbors in elementary school. This family was friends with mine, but I remember using their home as some sort of escape. I remember every summer break, the four of us would sit in the cool basement and visit each other’s towns for hours! They’re also the ones who introduced me to the game cube game before that… I became best friends with Dizzy and I remember the pure heartbreak I felt when he moved. I saw this in another comment but I also feel like this game helped me understand social interactions. I was a very lonely and hyper-independent as a child but outside of my neighbor and the kids in that house, I was so grateful to animal crossing for giving me that pseudo interaction. Definitely helped me get to the yapping mess I am today 😂 Great video!❤

Yeah NH falls short in terms of being an animal crossing experience. But wild world on the other hand is a terrible dollhouse but a great animal crossing cus the animals acrually say more than 5 things a day and they’re ten times more interesting than they’ve been since. Wild world was a great follow up to the first game. Same as new leaf being an phenomenal follow up but it’s where the animals started to show their inability to be interesting because they had to be a little easier to govern

And I got city folk after watching some KZreadr never finish a 365 days thing of it. I don’t remember his channels name but I remember his town es called pun place😅 but wild world is definitely a lot of peoples starting point for the series and it’s probably one of the better places to have started cus the animals still say really off the wall things resetti doesn’t care if your power went out or your game card stops reading mid session and you don’t really control everything which in my opinion is more relatable with real life. It taught me to be content with what I had. Especailly growing up looking at everyone playing the other games and not owning them til I was old enough to buy them myself.

Thank you for the video, late night listening, and one of my fav ACWW retrospective video ever. About New Horizons, I don't consider it an animal crossing, it's like a spin-off to me. Yeah you can build crazy things all of a sudden, but I went multiple games without being able to do much in my town, and it was enough, because it felt alive, I felt like villagers had real emotions, deep talk: meanwhile in ACNH, nothing, it's all boring, I didn't even talk to them. We had more special characters and little details that made us play the game on a daily-basis. If we were to remove the terraforming from ACNH, and being able to put items outside, it'd be EMPTY. New Horizons had all the keys to be the greatest AC of all-time, they failed.

I agree with you that ACNH doesn't feel like an AC game. There isn't any charm or soul, the villagers are shells of their former selves (so much so that I actively avoid getting my favorite villagers to move in as to not ruin the good memories I have of them) but worst of all, the soundtrack doesn't sound "animal crossing" AT ALL. Sure I go back to it from time to time, but it always end up making me feel sad. I did also find my old WW game early this year and decided to erase my old save to start fresh. Big mistake. While I do have fond memories of WW (my first DS game), as an adult I just can't seem to get back into it. It definitely didn't age as well as New Leaf.

It's wild this video was just made 2 days ago, as I was just recently thinking about how Wild World may actually be my favorite game in the franchise, aside from maybe New Leaf. I also find it kinda bothersome that people tend to simplify Wild World and City Folk by saying City Folk is just a better Wild World, or even that City Folk is the "definitive" game of the classic era. While City Folk did in fact do a few things to improve over Wild World, it did so many other things wrong or took steps backwards. I think it's actually the first game in the series to start the trend of slacking on the villagers to focus more heavily on the flashier and newer parts of the game. If your favorite part of animal crossing is making and spending bells, City Folk has you covered with things like the town fund and the notoriously expensive Gracie Grace shop. However, if you're more into the community and NPC interaction part of the game, and sentimental moments, while also enjoying unique features never seen in other games (not to mention on handheld for you to take wherever you go), Wild World is where it's at with it's signature events and being able to receive pics from villagers and some of the special NPCs, as well as participating in villager birthday parties, having far more dynamic dialogue, and even getting to give things to special NPCs and having a much more unpredictable day to day experience with more random occurrences.

  • @xartfulx9735

City folk did have one of my favorite features thst never came back. The bank card. I also like the city theme it’s really nice. But other than thst city folk is really just wild world with real holidays and in Nintendo plastic money printer. And on another note of spending bells sending bells to the boondocks town in wild world worked not to mention wild world really was the economic crisis of the series so you were paying a lot for the house you had and not making anywhere near enough off daily things unless you were getting insanely lucky with rare bugs or fish. Until I got an action replay and bought the last two house upgrades it had taken me maybe 3-4 years to get my house to where it initially was when I was a child. Wild world had it all imo at least as much as it could with it’s blatant hardware limitations of literally being on the ds. I feel like someone should make a rom hack/ expansion to wild world that adds whag city folk added except for the tiers to your village. Cus I feel like the ds could handle those aspects like he city and such. And hearing a ds version of the city themes would be awesome tbh. But in my eyes wild world is the definitive version of the animal crossing games where you can’t pick what pants you wear. Thanks for the comment btw :)

@@xartfulx9735 yeah I totally agree! I do think having a secondary place to go to like the city is cool, and I absolutely love bigger flashier events like Halloween and Festivale, and City Folk has by far the best Tom Nook Points System. However, those events only last for a day at a time, and aren't very evenly spread, making for summers so boring even the villagers make note of it. As for the City, it's definitely cool and had fun new features like the Prize Guy, Kicks, the Reset Surveillance Center, and Gracie Grace, but a lot of the other things are just remade versions of stuff we have in wild world. Katrina in particular I feel is an absolute downgrade, Shrunk was more exciting when he was a random visitor, and Gracie is practically a shell of her Wild World self, as is the special and rare nature of her exclusive shirts. And yeah, Wild World like you mentioned does actually have quite a few things to spend on if you like the grind, it's just not quite as tangibly rewarding, such as getting a town fountain, or having a really cool and expensive piece of furniture (aside from the throne and crowns, which City Folk also has), but it does ultimately have enough to satisfy that aspect to play it over City Folk when everything is considered. When it comes down to it, the main things that City Folk excels in tend to be smaller side features, or technical achievements (such as graphics and bigger town, although you do have to worry about grass deterioration, and cliffs can be annoying), whereas Wild World excels in the true fundamentals of what makes a mainline animal crossing game a mainline animal crossing game. It's like City Folk has the fancy bells and whistles, but Wild World has more reliable wheels, in addition to its own unique accessories. It's an all around better, more consistent package. I'm actually looking forward to starting a new town soon, as I just ordered a new one a bit ago! Edit: oh yeah and the bank card was cool, although there's not a ton of need for it without the city. They didn't even let you use it at Nook's anyway, but still a cool little idea that was nice to have.

@codyhanson1344 true. The bank card wasn’t insanely helpful but I think it’s a quality of life thing to not have to leave if you don’t have enough for an item. It just cuts down on the tedium. Which is actually another huge problem new horizons has. It’s tedious. Crafting getting rewards from your abd. Bulk buying some things was great but adding that then making everything else take forever is hardly quality of life. City folk was probably some of what they wanted wild world to be. But they didn’t realize leaving wild world as the only one like it was probably the better move.

@@xartfulx9735 yeah, New Horizons just feels like another beast entirely. Whenever I try to rank all the games in my head, I find it almost impossible to confidently place New Horizons anywhere. With its sheer amount of content and customization like we've never seen before, it feels absurd to even consider putting it anywhere in the bottom 3, but I do feel like I enjoy Wild World a lot more, and I already mentioned New Leaf being my most favorite. A lot of people complain about how tedious it is to do terraforming and stuff, but I've always took the stance that animal crossing was never originally supposed to be about quick drastic change, and terraforming should really only be used in moderation anyway. However, I eventually got to the point where I had quite the specific vision for my town and began working on it, and eventually I too got the desire for wanting to just have it streamlined in a menu. It's honestly so exhausting and stressful, and makes my island feel like crap even tho it's arguably more beautiful than any town I've ever had in any other game, due to it constantly feeling like a work in progress. Plus, there's just not much else to do in New Horizons once you've gotten established and gotten your island to be the way you want it to be. The villagers just seem like mere interactive decorations. The truth is, I didn't just get a new wild world game to start a new town. I had actually been a bit away from hands on playing animal crossing for pretty much this entire year so far, until I recently felt the need to get back into it. However, the only animal crossing game I have access to at the moment is New Horizons, as I'm missing my 3DS charger and Idk where my DS lite went (and I don't currently have a TV). I tried playing New Horizons, and have gained a bit more motivation to continue working on it, but otherwise the core gameplay just wasn't doing it for me the way I wanted it to. I then started watching videos about wild world and city folk, and it honestly got me really wanting to play wild world on a regular basis again, so I bought a new copy of the game as well as a new DS lite (and 3DS charger for that matter). These last few days I've been waiting eagerly for that Wild World experience, with similar excitement to that of waiting for the release of a brand new game, despite New Horizons sitting right there within reach. At the end of the day, New Horizons is basically a creative sandbox game, but with the tedium you expect with paying off your wild world mortgage, as opposed to the full quality of life you'd expect from a true creative sandbox, whereas the other 4 games are just genuine animal crossing life sim games, with their own unique pros and cons, but still the same genre nonetheless.

i loved wild world so much. granted i was a small child when i played it and most of it is nostalgia, but i have so many fond memories of this game. it is tied to it's own time, though. i don't think i could enjoy it now, with how advanced games have become - including the animal crossing series. but back then? it was a masterclass on relaxation and forging relationships.

I can only sorta agree with you because wild world will always have way more personality than the newer entries. New horizons is still just a doll house essentially. It’s cool for the museum and stuff that’s the gameplay I always like in these games but the villagers being so weak now is what drove me off new horizons

@eurotrash161 yeah that’s what I think too. Don’t get me wrong I got a switch for new horizons but the villagers are basically just furniture to me in new horizons and part of the fun and appeal in the old games for me was talking to the villagers and reading the very interesting/strange things they had to tell me. @karmachameleon7148 don’t let the lack of views deter you. If you check my page some videos do good some suck the juices of no views it just happens. Eventually you’ll fall into a good crowd who will adore your videos. I wasn’t expecting THIS video to do so good considering my main focus thus far was shitposty content on games like rainbow six siege lethal company Phasmophobia and whatever else we could all play. I just managed to hit a community who thankfully is passionate and loving towards this game. Which is only good cus I love the game. Although I’m grateful for the views and the subscriber growth I made through this video alone I’m more happy to see how many people have played and love animal crossing wild world. It’s my hope that those I gained will enjoy whatever I decide to post though. But also I have plans for another video like this I just feel like I need to play new leaf more before I can fairly judge it since I didn’t play it when it was in its hay day let alone have enough time in the past 4 months to properly judge it due to the online going away and the fact my 3ds is modded also means because I felt the need to restart my game and not only due to the fact you get a ton of money if you did enough before you reset and the cheats to essentially get everything back may have made my view foggy so I reset again without doing any of that (unless it’s something I technically can’t access anymore due to online being gone like eventually I’ll have to hack in bananas cus it’s literally to my knowledge impossible to get them now since my town is a coconut town)
