I got mixed feelings about Affinity. I have all the suite and looking forward for improvements in the future. But not including an organiser in their package (DAM software) and the total silence during a year (?) makes me tempted to start looking for other alternatives (DxO or ON1). And there're people who defend their right for their lack of communication, but I disagree. Customers need some sort of reassurance.

I agree on the DAM, that should have been a thing by now.
Surgery to remove a defective adrenal gland changed my life. Do I need an Affinity update to change my life? I think not. I'm just grateful Serif haven't abandoned the Affinity products, canceled the next season with an unresolved cliffhanger, and added dairy just so I can't enjoy it.

Thanks. The length might get a bit longer going forward, because instructional vids tend to be content rich, but I try to keep them easily digestible.
I knew there was something going on lately! Great to know that the Affinity Team considers your channel and let's you take an early look at their products! 👌🏻

I think it's impressive you were able to walk away from focusing on a learning channel of one program, most aren't able to pull it off

@@DaveConrey so it was meant to be and you didn't shy away from it
The silence from Affinity has been of concern for some time - it feels like they pushed their project then became bored with it and wandered off to do something else. That means the bargain we thought we got may end up being redundant software if they stop bothering altogether with updates. The first sign was the lack of promotion by email and drop in the number of tutorials. I suspect their generosity with the free version updates for life came back to haunt them - it may have seemed a good idea at the time but, in the long run, their revenue suffered. Btw, Dave...I'd like to see your painting process after seeing all these cool works in the background of your vids. If you fancy a break from the digital, how about going analogue with a side channel dedicated to painting? You can show your own techniques and discuss other artists' works and your influences. Just a thought - a change is as good as a rest, and other clichés, plus you'd gain a whole new audience demographic

Stay tuned and you’ll see the one in the background progress over time. And I may do a process video at some point, albeit a chaotic mess at times.

Yep. We saw new iPads and Affinity Publisher 2 comes to iPad. And it seems that whole series move to 2 version instead 1.

See, Affinity, it's not just me! 😂
I have a lot of issues with Affinity Designer lately. Crashing, hanging, and lagging. I like the tool. It replaced Illustrator completely. But I feel uncomfortable working with it when it can stab me in the back while deadlines are crushing me. And that happend. Few times now. I keep an eyeball on Adobe with Black Friday. If they have a good deal, i am back in Adobe. Not ideal, but it never has let me down.

Unless I was designing a logo, I would not be using Designer. Instead, I use Publisher for any sort of publication, even if it is just one page.

@yoRRnl The last update has been problematic for me as well, I found a fix on their forum (my issue was typing in the typography search bar, among others). As soon as I performed the fix, all was good, no crashes ! :) HMU if you need the link

@@martharetallick204 do you find affinity designer has a better workflow for logo design specifically than Adobe. It’s something I’ve been comparing lately between the two. I just find that affinity let’s me down in the tightness of the results even if the process “seems” easier. Again it’s all about how confident the program makes you feel in its output
I love the painting

Hmm, Affinity Designer updates have been lackluster and Serif's community/customer interaction has seemed... i don't know, ungrateful or maybe annoyed? I'm certainly not as enthusiastic as I used to be, even earlier this week. Oh and cool to know you have a whole second channel. I'll sub to that too. Thanks.

Trust me, I'm right there with you.
Somtimes I run the updates when they tell me I should. But, I usually don't feel like waiting around while it updates. So, I don't (sometimes for months). I am not worried about Affartingtitty coming out w/ a new verion. Unless there is something groundbreaking, this version is all I need. Aside from making gifs I haven't needed something and not had it yet. But, I'm not an artist or designer. If I was an artist I would definitely be of the starving variety. When I make art I have to be happy w/ it. I know it must be good when I'm the only one who likes it. But, anyways, Dave. Feel free to demo any or all of the the tools you use or tested. In my opinion art isn't about only using one tool or looking at it from only one angle. How are you going to stretch a canvas with Affartingtitty? I think a lot of us are here to learn (how to) stuff. Not all of us have the means or motivation to try out the latest & greatest (we mighta not even ever heard of such a thing). And a portion of us want to make $$$$$$$ online or off. So, any tips, tricks, or advice you feel could be relevant will be appreciated by some. Just keep dropping the nugs and people will follow. Although, they might not remember why they are there.

Since Apple is mentioning Affinity Publisher 2 on their new iPad page it's pretty obvious version 2 is coming up. Kinda weird that you cannot mention that while Apple has it on their page, which (no offense) is probably visited more... just maybe not by the affinity community.
@DaveConrey

I wonder if because the cat was out of the bag with all the leaks, Affinity decided it was ok to mention the version number.
I haven't purchased the Affinity Suite - I want to as my free trial is done but I have been holding out given the rumors of new versions. What is frustrating is that I've been holding out for almost a YEAR because they wont even let their customer base know if whether or not they will be offering a discounted upgrade cost for those who recently bought the software. That is my concern, that I will go to buy the full suite [designer, photo, publisher, and designer on ipad] only for the new versions to release within months. But I've reached a point where I cant really hold out too much longer so its either hope for a black Friday sale or choose a different software. I dont know what to do.... thoughts? Also, can you do videos on Affinity Publisher and Designer?
@DaveConrey
Жыл бұрын
I'm starting to believe that this next upgrade will be a paid upgrade, but I don't know what that discount will be. I could be wrong about that, but it's my instinct. I will have an Publisher video coming out in the near future, and I will probably talk about Designer once the upgrade hits, but I don't work in that app very often, so I'm not really the best for Designer how-to vids.

Woot woot.
I'd never go back to Adobe - the subscription-only model is immoral. If Affinity moves over to a subscription model (I don't think it will), I'll go back to Gimp and check out other options. But Serif has been providing excellent value software for decades, so I doubt it'll stop now. And having paid just £75 for all three apps a few years ago, I'd be more than happy to pay that again, or more, for Affinity 2.0. (How much is Creative Cloud *per month* nowadays?)

Yeah, saw that. I'm worried they may be overstating it a bit.
I personally invite a subscription model provided it is structured like Wondershare's Filmora pricing. Basically, you can buy the product outright for $75 with one point update for that year, or pay $50 per year with unlimited point updates and upgrades to new versions. This seems extremely sensible and reasonable. They have GOT to maintain a consistent revenue stream as the user base is going to plateau at some point. It is unrealistic to think Serif is going to cannibalize the Adobe market indefinitely. That fee you pay is a kind of insurance to be sure this alternate software continues to be supported.
@DaveConrey
Жыл бұрын
I would be ok with that too, as long as the fee wasn't ridiculous like $600+ a year with Adobe.
Will the updates be worth the 15month wait? Lol. Happy or sad face.
