'Normal everyday people' think that by going out every weekend, having 2 weeks holiday abroad, buying a big house and new car think they're living life, well they're not, they're just being hoodwinked by the system, being owned by the house and car that are on finance. You my friend are actually living life.

I agree. We are all programmed into money making robots for the system. Bled dry for money and living in debt fear so we can't stop. We have so much diagnosed depression, anxiety and most people aren't even aware that they have it at a low level so it becomes normal. . That's why we have drug, alcohol and food addiction. To soothe the pain of a boring unfulfilling life of drudgery so we can PAY our debts and for a roof over our heads and for food and water. The way society on this planet is structured in INSANE. And deliberate. This man is the way forward to taking control of our own lives an no longer be slaves to the system we did not create.

This is a good life.

Just sold my apartment, gave up my banking job and I am now living in a remote village in Portugal, renting a house for 250 euros. I am going to freelance but I could as well doing anything here, it is so simple and beautiful that just being here is awesome. You talked about taking risks in your life and that is indeed the clue of it all. The most memorable moments are those ones. It does not matter if you fail or succeed, it is about the dream, adventure and your new life. Just do it!

@@Onlinesully Hi, I was living in Alentejo, which is the biggest province of Portugal and it also has coast, but I was more close to the Spanish side. In the mean time I moved to the Capital because of the studies of my daughter. I use the Memrise app to learn the language, which is really nice, in the little villages they don't speak much English so you have to adapt, but in the big cities they speak a lot of your language. Over there the heat is the most difficult to adjust to, you would need an airco in the summer and a dehumidifier in the winter, or use the airco to heat. Here in the capital, or any coastal area, the climate is much easier to adapt to. The thing I needed to adapt to the most is that people are very social, I was not used to so much openness :).

My husband grew up much like you. Now, after 9 years working the night shift and after a very eye opening confinement during Covid outbreak we realised we will both be happier on a farm. The confinement gave us time to work full time in our garden and it was the happiest I have seen him in a very long time. We are planning the same thing you did but we have 4 children so we must be careful too. Thanks for the video, all the best for you 🙂

@@saiko_1 we are not on a farm yet, we are moving our life towards it. We have 4 children, with children these things take a little more time, meanwhile we have a little garden where we grow some vegetables and have a few chickens, this way we practice for the farm and have a little glimpse of what it is like and feels like and if it's really for us or not. Before this garden we lived on an appartment and I grew things in a small balcony. I feel like each waiting room was a classroom and we grew (had more space to grow things) into the next phase and learned. It's never too late to learn, don't feel overwhelmed, start small. I started with strawberry plants in pots, they're the easiest thing! Then I put some onions that were sprouting in a pot and harvested the greens for salads and cooking, as I felt more confident I started researching about how to sprout different seeds and before I left the appartment I had grown from seed several tomato plants that I gave to people with gardens, among many other things, my balcony was bursting at the seems with plants. 🙂 You can do this, start small and work your way up from there! 💪

I moved from a big job/city to a small village and found my 40 acres of paradise when I was 47, 18 years ago. Have a humble house, dogs, cats, chickens, gardens, creeks and woods. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I still think every day that I live in the best spot in the world. Don't wait to find your dream, if you are motivated...dream it and you will find a way. Yes, there are hardships and frustrations, but so satisfying to be on the land, and having hands in the soil and life with frogs, insects, birds and all manner of critters. Love your videos and love hearing Mossy Dog groan with joy over his stick! :)

I totally agree with you Brenda. I have lived in the Los Angeles area all my life. I started shipping out on mostly oil tankers straight out of high school and I loved it. I stopped after 13 years to take my first and only shoreside job as a mechanic in a large wastewater plant. I liked the work but I did not like the politics nor did I fit in with the people there. I stayed for 28 years and finally retired 2 years ago. I need to drive around and find a rural, quiet place in a natural environment to move to. I am going to check out Oregon and also the Ozarks. I am now 60 years old and still healthy and in good shape but I realize I have lived more than I have time left to live. I do not want to waste the rest of my life in an area I am not happy in. I want to live in a place like you described you are at. I want to be around animals and nature. They make me feel happy and alive and with a purpose to be alive every morning that I wake up. I am tired of existing in an area I feel stressed and unhappy in. Life is way to short to take for granted and just exist every day.Thank You for your input it gives me incentive to stop worrying and start living.

I’m 42 now and trying to complete the last year of an old undergraduate University degree. Everyday I question why I’m torturing myself with something that doesn’t apply to my life, and knowing once I finish this degree I never want to go back to corporate America. Many people tell me that money or initials behind one’s name are the only ways to have any respect in this world. The practical side of me realizes that money is necessary to eat, fix a leaky roof, or pay for unforeseen emergencies. But the true core of who I am knows that those things- although handy- aren’t measures of who someone is. But it’s hard to feel authentic in such a world as this.

Your story is my story. I dropped our of varsity in my final year. I felt defeated. I went on to get a string of dull jobs. But then I decided to start s new degree. It took me 7 years. I got it last year. And all of a sudden when I advertised my self for a job, I got so many more and better job offers even though the jib had nothing to do with the degree. I got an amazing non-office job. If you can, hang in there. I know it's not a guarantee job, but the piece of paper tells an employer something. Even if its not what you want to do ultimately and u want to buy a plot, you can save quicker and more because you will have got your degree.. keep pushing you can do it!!

That yearning you're describing...we all feel it. We intuitively know that something's terribly wrong with the way we live nowadays, but choose to do it regardless. We go about our days, minding one thing after another, but there's always this need, this sense of unfulfillment that keeps chasing us and, ultimately, tracking us down. We wake up one day, whether worn out due to old age, chronic illness or simply die to being overly exposed to this unnatural way of life that we ultimately inevitably internalise and find comfort in, and realise that we have been lying to ourselves, too afraid to do what it takes to reclaim our freedom. And that is a heartbreaking thing to admit. I'm so glad you didn't succumb to it and decided to do what you felt is right for you! I wish you the best of luck with your endeavors, fortune favours the brave!

A "yearning that we all feel" is an excellent description. And to me, I interpret that yearning to be for the way God originally had things set up. We lived in a garden, tended it then hung around visiting with eachother and asking Him questions. Like the ultimate dinner guest with an Expert even more knowledgeable than Daniel. How interesting it would be to find out how He came up with a platypus, or how why avacadoes such a large pit! Hahahahah. Now we have cemeteries instead of gardens, until He does His own "reset." Until then, He patiently waits until we exhaust ourselves trying to run the world our way without His wisdom/love. God forgive us for taking the world You created as a gift to us, and dribbling it like a basketball. Snatching the gift out of Your hands, then kicking You out of the birthday party. How selfish and cruel of us....

I went back to college and did a graduate degree in psychology in my 50s. After my year long internship, I was experiencing complete burnout and depression. I see now that time in nature alone and possibly rural living might be my path after all.

First degree in addiction and mental health by 50, worked in many services for many years - services which are themselves unwell and unhealthy to work in and don't align with my ideas of holistic health and wellbeing. Now I am exhausted and burnt out and feel i have wasted my life. I am almost 60 now and long to go live in the bush. Maybe we can make that dream happen in our own different ways after all?

I am an older woman of 72 yrs that loves watching your videos because when my husband and I lived in Northern California on 5 acres of land, we had lots of different animals. But because we were both working and really didn’t know how to grow vegetables on a large scale. We just enjoyed our animals and living in the Sierra foothills of Grass Valley, CA. We owned horses when we were children. We were raised about 30 minutes south of San Francisco. So we spent a lot of time outside as children. We owned 7 donkeys when we first moved to Grass Valley because they were so cheap to buy. We had a herd of wild pigmy goats that we inherited and enjoyed watching all the time. We had dogs and cats, horses (only a couple) and a pig or two. I miss the animals very much, but seeing your videos and a few others on KZread give me so much happiness. We sold our property in California back in 2015 and took off traveling all over the western U.S. It was lovely! We lived in a 23 foot travel trailer while traveling, for two years. Then we settled in Whitehall, Montana because one of our daughters bought a house there. We love it in Montana. We moved to Butte, Montana because my husband had a heart attack. Luckily I got him to the hospital in time. We live about ten minutes from the hospital and have lots of conveniences here in Butte. We are at about 5,500 feet elevation. My husband turned 80 this year so I mainly help him out, as he had open heart surgery last December. But he is doing really well now. We both work out about 3 days a week to stay physically functioning. I am looking forward to watching everyone of your videos. I think I ran across your channel because of your kune kune pigs. They are precious! They have Star War character faces! Ha! Ha! And I love what you do and have done with your rabbits. Keep up all the fantastic work you are doing. Montana Cynthia👍

I,m currently living in italian Alps and I truly like to move to a big city :)in the begining it was amazing but slowly it has turned into a routine. Of course, I still keep on admiring the beauty of mountains and views but its not like in the begining when I arrived here. It all about what we need for a long life. Nature is beautiful but people not always,I found many frustrated people in here beetwen the mountains than in a big city.

I loved this. It’s funny that you have an affection for Canada, because I am a Canadian who loves Ireland. I have been there four times because once isn’t enough. I recently retired and bought a small cottage on a piece of property in a small town in southern Ontario. It was the first property I looked at and the only property I looked at. I knew it was home. It reminds me of Ireland. It is all made of stucco and is 100 years old. My first plan was to just have a place to leave my stuff, and backpack around the world. Now I’m not so sure. I am really considering being much more self sustaining by growing my own food and making all kinds of preserves to sell at the farmers market. You are right about travel. It makes you wiser and gives you a sense of courage and self confidence you never knew you had. Most of my travel was solo, and I have no regrets. I feel a true sense of peace from my new home. Welcome to Ireland. I grew up on a beautiful Irish farm, loving nature etc. I totally get why you did this.

Such an honest, down to Earth man. He barely posts and I love that, because it only reveals that he is living life through his eyes. He's found the way. Now go on 🕊

You are so measured, reasonable and articulate in the way you convey your points. Refreshing and inspiring!

When we were 24 years old, we built and lived in a Native American style Tipi for 2 years at 6500' above sea level in SW Colorado (USA). I recently turned 65 and am so glad I took risks and left the pavement back then! My life continues to be colorful, creative, fascinating, and fulfilling in many ways. I support all my younger clients to taste and experience their authentic selves first and foremost and to let their life, itself, be their greatest artistic expression!

The most honest, beautiful, sincere, heartfelt motivational speech EVER! It's backed by personal experience too! Can't beat that! I wish you the greatest success...I know you won't be the type to give up easily, either. I hope you dig into that little piece of land and your great, great, great, great grandchildren are still living on it eons from now!! Edit: I just discovered your channel and this is only the second video I've seen, but you need a couple of Nigerian Dwarf milking does. Those little critters are precious and so full of personality! They give you wonderful, high butter fat milk too!

I'm not suited to a life exactly like yours, but I recognize how much the world needs people like you. Keep doing what you're doing and sharing with everyone. You have a terrific philosophy and it really is helpful for others to hear how you've come to find courage and contentment.

Cheers mate. I'm in Chicago & would live to live in Ireland. It was severe asthma attacks and shortness of breath, when my life flashed b4 my eyes I was NOT thinking about screens, $, possessions, I was hoping to breathe so my kid could have a mum.

May have commented before, but this is still one of my favorite videos to return to and watch, when I need inspiration and encouragement. Thank you for sharing so much, not only the outward steps of what you did to reach your current life, but what you were thinking and feeling at those times, including feeling uncertain and unprepared at times. Sometimes people who are brave, unconsciously speak in a tone of impatience to those who don't quite have courage yet, but you don't speak that way - you seem very self-aware and humble, and just share what helped you, and that in turn helps others. Thank you!

I think a lot of people are finally figuring out what " to live " really means. It's not about having the best of the best materially, only compete with the next man or person. Its about what drives you ans makes you unique and set you apart from others. What gives you an ease of mind ans a fresh breath of air

You articulate well how nature, being One with it, can bring us satisfaction. People who never had an experience of nature in their youth might not appreciate - those who have dwelt in cities all their lives might be lost on a farm. But then again, we are nature & perhaps our instincts return when we spend time in it......I can't stand cities - have spent many years in them {20 yrs in Brooklyn NY) - Lost Angeles & its suburbs, 10 years. But spent time in Germany & rural New Jersey, now upstate New York with 50 acres of wilderness, a 5 acre island on the river, a swamp, a pond, a creek in my back yard. I have all one could wish for if one loves nature. I had an apt in a nearby city for a while - I HATED it, am so happy I gave it up, dreary, dead place, too many people. Being away from people is also for me, Heavenly. People are so - in general - deeply flawed & anti God. God is Love & all that is good, & so if one is against God one is against everything good including nature. I am happy now that I can AFFORD to be alone! God Bless me! Lol......As a child I spent 7 years on a farm. Went to the woods daily for one hour, spent most of my time outside in summer......& yet my sister lived the same as me but HATES OUTDOORS, HATES NATURE because she NEVER SPENT TIME OUTDOORS when we were kids! She was busy working from age 14 in a restaurant, did little work outside on the farm - I took care of most of our animals, carried water grain, all that. Made me strong. I loved it as you did. And like you built shelters in the woods. All that stuff you speak of.

I was travelling around Switzerland in the country side a few months ago. It was a much needed travel to clear my mind and to take stock of my life. The strange feeling that I get while I was there as if there's something that's calling out to me but I can't seemed to articulate it. It was very calm, peaceful and sort of draws me nearer to whatever it is out there towards the mountains, rivers, and farmlands in the countryside. When I got back home, the first thing I did was I sold my tv, pc, cancelled my cable subscription and my Internet, except for my mobile phone. I began doing some home gardening and regained my old hobby for carpentry. Started doing some research on cottages for sale in Ireland and I spot your video. What a great video to watch at the last day of the year. A real encouragement.

@@patriciahurducas Go to see the region called the "Toggenburg". It is situated in the east of switzerland. It is beautiful. I live there too :-)

When are you going to show us your cottage before any work is done?

We did this...living happily in Galway since 2003! Moved here from Manchester!!! Good for you!!

Now in lockdown, without a job and no savings it's a bit difficult to buy, travel, dream etc.

Didn't even have to watch the video, i looked at u and instantly subscribed. I can see you're a good guy, it's rare nowadays.

If you like this channel, you may enjoy Bealtaine Cottage too, which is also on the west of Ireland. Collette O'Neill Bought an old derelict cottage and 3 acres 14 years ago and single handedly transformed it into a paradise.

This is by far the most wholesome video I've watched in a long time. Thank you, you are a wonderful person and are going through a wonderful journey :)

Yes l agree - he is "simpatico" in Spanish and "simpatique' in French - meaning a lovely person. Such a shame the English language hasn't got such a lovely soulful word.

Hi Daniel, Stumbled across your channel in the middle of the night and have enjoyed watching your adventure unfold - thank you for posting the videos. I'm Canadian and live alone in SW Ontario, two miles north of Lake Erie, in a 100-year-old tiny house that was literally falling down when I bought it. It's in a tiny hamlet and came with an acre of grass. I moved here 3.5 years ago when I retired and knew nothing about gardening (having lived in apartment buildings most of my life), but I'm learning and have employed the no-dig method a lot. Every single morning when I wake up, I can't believe how lucky I am. Please continue posting videos and sharing your experiences with us. BTW, Moss is incredibly sweet, even when he's being "bad".

Move to Cong, it's right on the border between galway and mayo. It's where the film "the quiet man" was filmed. It is absolute paradise.

The best part of the video was the ending with Mossy. He's adorable! We have a red merle Aussie and she's the same way...lives in the moment, my schedule and agenda be damned. There's a lesson there. LOL!

So glad to have stumbled upon "Mossy Bottom." What an inspiration!

Well said I also sold up in UK in 2004 ,I read far too many John Seymour books as a result bought a farm in rural Galway never looked back , there are a lot of us drop in's out there thanks for uploading good luck

Read Getting it together and Fat of the land by Seymour. Both are a great read and packed full of useful information.

When I imagine myself sitting where you sit, in that beautiful place, and even owning it, it makes me feel so save and happy

I'm actually going to be undertaking a four year experience with like-minded people who have a lot of the experience in sustainability and self-sufficiency that I've been looking for. I'm really excited, and nervous because I've never done this sort of thing before! I had no idea there were actually websites for this sort of thing! Thank you for that info!

you’re such an amazing story teller! i guess to be one you really need that bounty of experience, hearing stories from others and that good amount of time to self reflect. this video was really inspiring and mind clearing, i’ll watch more of them !! thank you for putting this out there

Hello glad to see somebody else has moved away from the mad world, the wife and i came here in 2016 bought a old cottage with not much land from a very busy scotland mainly for my health and get back to the land grow my own food again and nobody to tell me i cant or to wreck or steal what i have

Hey, so happy to stumble across your channel which resonates with me so much. I moved from U.k. to Mayo, west of Ireland the same year as you. Experienced a lot of heartaches, loss, hardships during the process but it turns out to be well worth it. The magical quality of the land, the bog, the rivers lakes ocean, mountains in this part of the world is beyond words, something you cannot put monetary value to. Great stuff and thanks for sharing.
