Ғылым және технология

I debated for a long time with myself whether I should install Paint Protection Film (PPF) on my new Tesla Model Y and in this video I explain my thought process and how I ultimately was able to do it myself and save thousands of dollars!

I recently got really nice white seat covers for my model Y. So nice the seat covers are …I for a brief second I thought ‘should I get a seat cover for my seat cover. lol..thankfully I realized that would be insane.

I would consider seat covers to change the appearance (color, design, personalization) but not just to protect the seats that came with the car unless as a temporary measure when loading cargo into the vehicle or something. I love the look of white seats, but up to this point I haven't been willing to pay the price for a color change.

I bought a used 2022 M3 LR 56k miles for 24k. Front already had road damage. Friend at work has a new 2024 MY LR and spent $4000 for PPF and tint. He insisted I spend the money for PPF. Instead I put my $3000 in Nvidia stock which is now worth $15000. If my car were new and I spent 45k on it I would have paid for PPF. I'll get less for trade in but I won in the stock market.

"won in the stock market" is the understatement of your comment! That's a good example of one of the many possibilities for money (investing vs buying tangible goods or services) and how we have to choose what to do with our own money. In hindsight I can easily recount many instances in my life where if I'd done something different with my money (such as invest in Nvidia, Amazon, Tesla stock etc...) I could have much more money than I do now. Some of those choices I do regret, but at the same time if all I did was invest that money I'd have more instances of losses in the stock market potentially and I'd have far less fond memories and experiences that I've gained through carefully choosing where to spend my money for the benefits I value. I don't recommend that most people buy a brand new car and I personally never thought I would and only did so to achieve the free supercharging transfer.

Man I just did this myself and I think I’m going to let the pros do it next time lol. It was nice to try it myself first so I’m happy with the result for the time being.

If you are happy with the end result for now what is it that would make you decide to pay a pro next time?

I'm in the software as a service industry. I was in support for a while and then consulting and now operations and enablement. I think that paint protection film on just the front of the vehicle is far more important than the entire vehicle. It is definitely still spending hundreds of dollars for aesthetics on the front of the vehicle, and I can totally understand some people wanting to save those hundreds of dollars and spend the elsewhere and just let their car have road rash over time and not worry about it. Some people have the mindset that they want to repair the damage when it occurs so they are comparing the cost of PPF to a body shop to repaint the hood or do rock chip repair but if you don't intend to do either then you could just save the money and not do anything.

Great points for sure for me i spent $11,000 on paint and body work a month ago and dollar wise makes it a smart investment but my self personally the pro cost was $8900 and diy was $1300 due to size and my time which im in the solar field so time is precious and hard to come by and thats a nice job def a job in need these days of tech age
