Why I decided to do markets instead of galleries + a Notion template for you!

I did my first makers market and it changed everything I thought I knew about selling your work as an artist. I had years of experience showing my work in galleries and it never went quite as well as this market did. So much of the art world is about luck, chance, and weird economics that I still dont quite think makes sense. But, the makers market space really is an opportunity to connect with people about your work in an informal and accessible way!
Here are the inspiring Market videos I mentioned in the vid that you should check out!

Hey I was there! I bought a print from you that day :) i could not tell it was your first maker’s market at all lol. This was an interesting look into the behind the scenes of the fine art world, makers’ markets and accessible pricing in art. As someone who’s not in art but is an art enjoyer and has friends in art, some of the points about getting visibility for your work and pricing your art sounds familiar to me :’) happy to see that you’re getting to do art full time now! That is a huge deal

No way! That’s amazing! Thanks for watching and for grabbing a print! I love that. And I appreciate you saying I looked experienced! I worked in retail for a long time so applied a lot of my skills from that to look less nervous! Glad you liked the perspective and what was different. 😊 And yeah, the full time artist thing is a wild ride but I love this ride! :) appreciate ya being a part of it!

Oh my gosh, I am SO conflicted when people tell me to raise my prices. I also hate capitalism and would prefer to have accessible prices, so totally get you on that!

Right! I’d rather have relationships with folks that sustain what I do than only relationships with people who seldom might. Purchase one thing for over $500. Eventually I know we will all have to raise our prices to survive and eat (thanks capitalism) but it’s a beautiful act of solidarity to keep things affordable I think.
