Academic reputations for both are outstanding. So for that it’s really a coin toss, especially for an undergrad degree. And of course, success ultimately depends on how well a student excels in a program, not which school. So then it really does come down to campus culture. Which campus life fits best. Both UCLA and Cal are big, and state schools can be impersonal unless a student finds one or more micro communities to be active in and create a sense of belonging. They can be interest driven, sports, hobbies, Greek, cultural etc. In the end, it’s what you make of it. Meili has done a terrific job illustrating the start of her journey. Best wishes to all young students, and remember to appreciate this time in your life. It goes by faster than you think, and will undoubtedly shape your future. Go Bruins! 🎓

Rob Johnston what? Even in the last last year of CS major? Like usually at a UC & CSU, Last year major in like business or health, has only 30 students

@@TechVHD I looked at the class schedule for Fall 2019 and Spring Semester 2020 at UCB, and the mean -- with adjustments, e.g., taking a one-figure number for seminar classes with, say, class numbering of 102A, 102B, 102C, etc. -- was ~ 500 of combined upper- and lower-division classes, so it's not 500-1,000. There were a handful of upper-division classes with > 1,000 students -- some were close to 2000, which seems strange because Wheeler 100 only seats 1,000 or so, and these would be the classes that are requisites or have a mix of CS and non-CS students. The UD electives were smaller, in the ~ 200-300 range UCLA's average is ~ 100 or a bit more and Stanfords' is around 125. This is a fact of life because CS -- at UCB especially -- is a popular major as it is everywhere. UCB just graduated ~ 700-800 CS through Letters and Science (as opposed to those through Engineering), and the number is ascending. Think about how many CS majors that is. I think it may be the most of any college in the nation, although UIUC or GTech might be up there too. Edit: CSU does have smaller classes because they aren't research-based. Research universities, the elites like Harvard and even MIT will have large LD classes, because of classroom logistics and letting professors have time to conduct research. It's a fact of life at a research U. UCLA is attempting to open up more sections though.

Hi! I have jsut been accepted to UCLA for BusEcon. I just came across you video and noticed that you are also a BusEcon major and was wondering how the job searching has gone for you so far and if you think it would be worthwhile for me to pursue the degree or to attend another school that I was accepted into for engineering (I was accepted into UCI and UCD for engineering). Thanks!

In the world of ivory tower academia, Berkeley is an academic powerhouse second to none. Europe (Reputation, Times Higher), Asia (ARWU), and the US (US News Global and Forbes), all consider Berkeley as one of the 6 most prestigious universites in the world. Stanford, Caltech and Berkeley are the three academic giants in California. UCLA is very good school but not in the same league as the above three and the Ivy League. 114 Nobel Laureates coupled with a mind-boggling array of influential and illustrious alumni can't be beat. Almost all of their Academic Departments are ranked within the top 5 (mostly top 3) in the nation. If I were in California in the next life and smarter, I would take Berkeley in a heart beat over any public school. I'm stuck in Texas. Proud Baylor grad. My cousin went to Berkeley.
