I love my A7C II, seems like they figured out the overheating- unlike the A7IV. I’ve recorded 4K back to back for 6’ish hours and didn’t have any overheat issues like the IV. Do love the compact factor on the A7C II, it’s my daily video creating workhorse. Either way, both are beast cameras. Nice video!

There are some strong positives leaning in favor of the A7C II. I just couldn’t get past the feel, I wanted the full frame feel after owning zv e10. I do a lot of construction videos so I wanted something a little bit more rugged as well. None the less, I just ordered a fx-30 to accompany my a7iv. We’ll see how that combo works

That to me is very important. As much as I want the photography tools in the A7 IV, the overheating is a deal breaker. I can deal with the touch to focus, just cut holes in the tips of your gloves or use your nose.

I am an enthusiast photographer, (non professional), and just bought 1st full frame (A7 IV July 2023) after 20+yrs shooting compact cameras. Also picked up a A7C in Jan 2024 (fantastic deal), as a smaller everyday carry camera. A7IV all day, everyday, and its not even close for me. The ergonomics alone, are enough for me as it fits my hand perfectly but having the additional controls puts it way over the top better. Holding the A7IV feels like holding my wife’s hand. The A7C ( and A7C ii) is smaller and more portable but feels like I’m holding a rectangular block. Feels much easier to drop my A7C if someone brushes against me on the street. Also, you’re underselling the additional buttons and controls that come with the A7 IV. The A7 IV has an additional customizable button on the top, and 3 additional customizable buttons on the back, in addition to the joystick. The A7 IV is a beautifully made camera! I use all these buttons every time I shoot. I’ll tell you in this regard the A7C cameras feel very confining and stingy! All that improved AI auto focus mumbo jumbo with the A7C ii is an incremental improvement because the A7IV auto focus was already really great.

Sounds like you should have kept the A6700 for the better grip. If you ask me the only real good reason to get a full frame is for the f/2.8 zooms, which are like having a f/1.8 zoom on APS-C, or if you need the best low light performance, at which time the A7S II or ZV-E1 may be the better choice. ZV-E1 and A6700 are a good combo.

I'd suggest trying putting a base plate on the A7cii, Smallrig makes a really nice one, and see how you feel between the two afterwards. I'm currently debating which one to get as well as my secondary/content camera, being that the a7rv is my main camera

I think for you a7cii would be best since a7rv is your main. I def would’ve kept a7cii if I had already have a larger full frame like yourself

@@jaymills1720 at least 30 minutes, not excessively long. At first I do want features that allow for long run times but I’m realizing I might just be better off ignoring some caveats other KZreadrs disregard certain cameras for, and remember to just focus on cameras that suit my needs

I picked the cii over the 4 because of how compact it is and it’s literally the same as the 4 and I didn’t want a huge camera. And the price too yes it’s only a couple hundred more but I just don’t want that big of a camera. I’ve been using a 6100 for like 5 years now and switching to full frame is just mind boggling. Love it

In Australia you can’t return the A7C2 to Sony. It’s excluded for whatever reason

This is always a tough debate but I think I take the "downgrade" of the A7cII simply due to the fact that it records longer without overheating in TX weather if needed (its real you should try quick before return period is up) and the IBIS / AI chip. Everything else on the IV is better in every way but the trade offs for me still say Cii with a cage or small rig baseplate for the additional grip length. True the grip depth also sucks but it's the nature of the smaller body camera. I wish small rig made the same style cage as they do on the ZV-E1 to add the grip to it then it would be perfect but sadly not a thing. EVF on the IV is leaps and bounds better and the one of the Cii is really poor but it least its their if you need it. You made a lot of good points but these debates always are rough going when one doesnt stand out harder than the other for your use case. To be honest with you im thinking myself about trying to 3D print an extension piece and drilling/tapping to use the grip off the small rig zv-e1 cage with one of their base plates on the cii because it would make it infinitely more usable for my big hands. It seems like there is a need for this in the market but its such a small minority that spend money on it that its probably destined to be an underground style piece for sure. If you vlog much you can just side step over to a mini tripod/grip. Cheers man ill be looking forward to future content

You make very good points! It is beginning to get hotter in TX so hopefully this weekend I can run some heat tests, and we will see. You nailed it in regards to the ZV-E1 cage, I had the Sony zv e10 with a small rig cage and it felt perfect! If the a7cii had a grip option like you stated it would make a very viable solution for the grip problem. If you do 3D print it, please let me know how it turns out. Thanks for watching! I have more content coming, a Sony FX-30 is soon to be added to the arsenal. Cheers!
