I'm glad other people are saying it as well as me - something doesn't have to be authentic in order to taste good! Also someone doesn't have to be a full - blooded race to be an authentic human being - ? Honestly some of the reasons why people treat others badly are just stupid 🙄 I'm so glad you've realised now that other people's problems and bad attitudes aren't your own issues, only theirs.

It’s okay they aren’t “authentic” tacos, it’s what a lot of people grew up eating in the states and it brings back good memories from childhood. As much as I love authentic tacos I still have a special place in my heart for these kind of tacos. Also those nacho cheese taco shells are the freaking bomb🤩

“Just because someone thinks that they’re not authentic, doesn’t make them any less good” this is FACTS! My Puerto Rican father makes Baleadas which is a Honduran dish and it is far from authentic because he uses store bought tortillas instead of making them like how my Honduran grandma does, but either way his baleadas are so yummy! Being raised in America and struggling to fit in with Hispanic people and American people was honestly a struggle. I was almost always the only Hispanic in school and although my skin is white I don’t look like a white person so it’s not like i could just lie my way through social interactions and I didn’t know Spanish that well and so hanging out with Hispanic people was also a challenge bc they make you feel less since you don’t know the language. So for a while I’ve just been stuck in some weird middle point where I’m neither one or the other.

Wow, try being black, white,Filipino, Mexican. Yes I’m legit 4 different races. Dad is black/white 50-50 and mom is Hispanic/filipino 50-50. That’s why i hate when ppl say “I’m mixed Cherokee, German” etc. and those aren’t “mixes” it just means your family originated from those countries. It’s like a black man in Africa. He’s still just black. But he claims himself as “african” because that’s were his culture started from.

They’re not saying it’s not a taco, they’re saying it’s not an authentic taco because it doesn’t use ingredients commonly used in authentic Mexican food. For example most authentic tacos don’t use hard shell tacos, they use soft shell, more specifically corn tortillas and very rarely flour tortillas.

@@dolparadise3040 Is anything made in America considered to be inherently American cuisine? Tacos are Mexican, they can still be classified as Mexican American but not purely American imo, we can have Mexican influence without claiming it as our own. I’m not saying non authentic tacos are bad, but it’s not authentic to the people who made them and we definitely shouldn’t claim it as ours when it’s a part of their culture that makes them unique.

No it's a mix of the original indigenous Austronesian with some Spanish then American due to colonization, then some Chinese, Indian and Japanese influeneces. But growing up in your ethnic culture versus living in a dysphoria as an Asian-American is also two different things, even more so when your ethnic culture is more obviously divided between your parents. I felt that Crazy Rich Asians did a good job of appreciating the difference - the main character isn't accepted into the family because she's American-born Chinese, not "real" Chinese.

I understand the not fitting in. I’m Mexican American and grew up only with my Hispanic mother and grandmother. My dads side of the family is racist and just all around a bunch of toxic people refusing to just leave each other alone and be fake. The main point I’m trying to make is that I still struggle with my identity when it comes to my race or who I want to be known as. I don’t have tan skin I’ve got colored eyes. I don’t have a Spanish accent and the only thing saving me is my brown hair. I’m not Hispanic enough and I’m not white enough. I worry for things that throughout the years of school and even know my white classmates didn’t have to. And yet my Hispanic ones said I wasn’t Mexican even though they have meet my mother. I didn’t have the accent and my Spanish was funny and I’m sure still is. I’ve tried for ever to gain approval. Never taking the moment to say how their English is bad when they comment on my Spanish just so they know how it feels. I can’t help but always feel like a outsider to those who know what being a outsider is like. I am what both sides hate. I am someone who always has to see both sides. I can only hope one day I can come to peace just for being me.
