Thanks Brad, I still think the 1250 is an upgrade to the 1200 even though initially, I just wasn’t convinced it would be much different but it’s nicer in a few ways. No buyer’s remorse.

I am new to the BMW GS1250/1300/1200 World. I own a 22 Royal Enfield Himalayan I bought new last year. Fun bike to ride and i can ride all day and its really comfortable. Only drawback is 60-65mph is about the top speed for long runs. I went to my Local BMW Dealership in Wilmington North Carolina. I live in the Myrtle Beach area and Cape Fear BMW are awesome. I'm 5'9" and they showed me the 24 1250GS with low suspension option. I can easily flat foot it and love the 8 gallon tank. Its so well balanced, it feels as light as my Himalayan and the tank was full. As a just retired Ford dealership mechanic, I am with you in buying the last, best made model. Give the 1300GS a few years if them fixing the engineered gremlins. Great video. Ive been watching a bunch of these to decide. I'm going to Maine, then Austin Texas to visit family and maybe out towards Arkansas. The BMW looks to be the right tool to get me there.

Sounds like you've got a great year of riding planned. I tell people there's no need to not go low-suspension unless you plan on doing a lot of off-road. The low model is still plenty tall for any street obstacles and much easier and comfortable at stop-lights so Low has my full support. I'm 6'3" w/o boots and do off roading so I've always gone the ultra-high "sport suspension" but it's still a struggle to touch the ground.

Thanks for watching. I may not be making much money on KZread but you guys know I’m always just going to share my thoughts here. I honestly have no reason to beat around the bush on topics. Dirt Daze would be a maybe this year. It’ll mean a special trip up to NH. I’ll be in New Hampshire most of the Summer but heading back to Charlotte before Dirt Daze. We’ll see!

My 2015 GSA is about to hit 36,000 miles. I look at the new GSA’s every year and your color is the only one that interests me. Since I bought a new 4Runner and Subaru Ascent recently I’ll wait another year. If I had to buy a new bike today I’d have get the Gas Gas ES700. Already have a KTM EXC-F and XR650L in the stable. The GSA is still the bike I ride the most since the only way to ride offroad is to enter events 3+ hrs away which are drying up. Congratulations, she looks great!

Thanks Dana. Yeah, It was between this and a Triple Black with the 719 package that was about $150 cheaper as a 2023 bike. As soon as I took a closer look at this black & blue model, I was sold. The blue is really luxurious.

I bought my first GSA (2018) at Max BMW in Portsmith NH and wanted to buy another GSA bike from them. I reached out to them first to help me find a 2023 GSA. I did not have the same experiencer with Max BMW that you did. I did not experience any ambition, or enthusiasm in helping me procure another GSA. In the end I bought a 2023 (1,600 mi) GSA from AZ for 23K out the door and $1500 for shipping. I talked with the salesman via e-mail after the sale was finalized; he told me he could have found one local and cheaper. Wish I had the experience you did.

That sucks and I’m sorry. I’m not a MaxBMW Shill but they’ve continued to beat anyone else’s price enough that I drove 11 hours each way to pick up this bike. Every transaction is different and that sucks that they really didn’t deliver for you.

I saw the 1300 GS at Barber also. I of course had seen pics and videos, but they were very impressive in person. However, I have always wanted a 1250GS Rallye, so when my dealer found a low suspension(I’m a short guy) 2023 model, I bought it, even though they offered me first dibs on the first 1300 in the store. I will probably end up with a 1300 at some point, but right now, I’m really enjoying my 1250. Your GSA looks great, btw.

It’ll be a A LOT! But my videos have gotten tighter and better edited with much better lighting so these won’t be as entertaining as the early videos but should be more useful.

Maaan I am so happy for you and for your new GS, btw didn't come here maybe for 3-5 moths (because of my overseas trip) you look like a new person (good way), bet all kudos go to Heather for sure. Totally agreed on the motorcycle weight. I have Husky TE300 and that thing is awesome, but stability and comfort compare to big machine on the same trail, you just can't compare, I am riding in Colorado just if someone want to say I don't know what I am talking about.... Maybe you remember some time ago told you take a look at Ducati, so I pulled the trigger , my process of thinking was the same as yours, was checking new 1300, but new GS would come maybe 1-2 years, will be selling for any asking price because of craaaazy demand and at time when was checking R1250 GS our dealers had that for almost 30K. Like I said now I have 2023 Multistrada V4 Rally, (had 3 miles on it in day of purchase) with 1.9% apr no payment for 4 or 5 moths (forgot how it was) and over 3K discount of asking price, another big thing was service interval oil change 9K miles or once a 2 years (I am do it by myself yearly) and big service 36K miles....... anyway I am happy for you and I think you made right purchase decision, cheers V!

No need to be a stranger. that Multi V4 is a beast though. Lots of smiles I bet and why the heck can't BMW do variable valve timing or hydraulic lifters to improve the valve intervals? It's insane.

Thank you! It’s wild because it’s currently not very convenient to buy a motorcycle from up north but MaxBMW continues to be the best prices and best service. They’re just fantastic and I guess that’s why they sell more GS bikes than any dealer on the east coast.

I also tested and thought about swapping my 2023 GS rallye for the new 1300, but to be honest it’s just to small and to fast . It’s a great bike and if your into that great , but I went for exactly the same bike as yours but with gold rims . I just love the sheer size of the GSA 1250 . Just clicked 450 miles in the 1st week. I agree it’s got years and years of fine tuning and it really is the ultimate final proper fat GSA. I’m that convinced I’ll be keeping it I even went with the 3 year service plan . I think they already are a future classic , especially in our 2024 rallye colours . Enjoy and all the best from the UK

Like the thought process! Bought a spanky new 23 GSA early last year with similar calculations. Didn’t get a crazy good deal but I got what I wanted, know how excellent the GSA is, and knew it will be for the long haul. It replaced two 20yo (ea) bikes, and I’ll be moving it (and me) to the Dominican Republic where it will be more bike than I’ll ever need for virtually any riding situation I put myself into. Thought of upgrading to the 1300 before moving but the GSA version is not out in time. Furthermore, in the DR, a 2023+ 1250 or 1300 GSA would end up being a US$50K proposition! Yikes!!!

I’ve done exactly the same.. the pinnacle of the last of an icon. I had three others (consecutively) prior to my 1 month old GSA Trophy TE and they’ve all been great bikes but this latest one is just a tad better. It’s not because it’s new, my last one only had 6500 miles on it, it’s just the way BMW undertake subtle mods/improvements that they don’t shout about but end up making it a slightly better bike. For example, the engine in my new bike is quieter (less clattery) than my 2020 bike. I also like the heated seat, although I never knew I needed one! And, it was a deal I couldn’t refuse bearing in mind that I’m going to be interested in the new 1300GSA when it comes out later this year. The thing is, I want to make sure the 1300GSA is fully sorted before I buy one so in the meantime I’ll definitely be enjoying my GSA Trophy, and probably not in a hurry to part with it.

Agreed on all counts. I will add that I did not expect the 2018 and 2024 to be that much different. I thought “It’s just a new motor” because I had TFT & auto leveling suspension but the 1250 really is a new bike. So much is the same but I’ve taken my 2024 apart down to the frame and I’ve torn down my 1200GSA a dozen times and the 1250 has a lot of tiny changes that really make everything fit together tighter. The way things are routed and bolted to the chassis is greatly improved over the 1200. bmw never stops innovating.

How many miles were on the bike when you sold it? I might’ve missed it, so I just needed to understand because I understand the amount of writing that you did.

My 2018 GS? It's for sale now and around 34,000 miles. Not high mileage at all and no issues. the next rider can get 10 more years out of it easily and at least 50K more miles before needing a clutch.

Can you redo the farkle list for this build? Are you planning on painting the red boxes?

Hi Keith, I am doing separate videos for almost all of the modifications. These are going to be short, tighter edited videos and less entertaining simply because I have a kid now so I just have to be short with time. I already have 30 videos done (one will be posted every day until May 1st). As for the boxes, they’re going to stay red for now.

Hi, same here . . agonised about buying the 1300 vs the 1250. I ended up getting the 1250 last December as I believe the 1250 is 'PEAK GS' and that the 1300 is not a natural progression from the 1250 and it will need to fight its own corner to remain top dog. Thanks for the video 😎

We’ll have to see how the 1300 plays out. I don’t know if I feel the 1300 is flawed or won’t be a great motorcycle but the 1250 is 10 years of rock solid incremental improvements and a great motor. I think by the time I get sick of it, it’ll be time to upgrade.

I bought my 2022 GSA from Cody and John at Max BMW. That location is just under 100 miles from my house so I fall within their pickup/dropoff for service.

Hi, I'm new to the BMW 1250 GS. What is a good RPM range to cruise in like on back roads? Is 4-5k RPM too high or is that is when the bike is happy? Would love some advice, the shift light seems to want me to shift wayyy too low RPMs.

Most people I know totally ignore the shift-indicator. It lugs the motor too low in the RPMs and you have almost no power and will be in 6th gear by 35 miles an hour...completely unreasonable design from BMW all in the name of emissions control. I follow the 10 mile per hour rule on gearing. By 20 miles per hour, I'm in 2nd gear and by 30 miles an hour, I'm in 3rd. That's just riding around casually. 4-5K RPM isn't a bad thing . After owning a 2018 1200GSA and a 2022 1250GSA I took the dive. I now have a 2024 1300 GS Trophy version with the taller sport suspension. After competing for the GS Trophy Team last year I wanted something lighter (about 75lbs). To me the 1300 is better in every way. I had the Touratech Evo suspension on my 1250 and think the 1300 feels better with its completely new setup. Off-road you can really throw the 1300 around. The front feels way more stable in corners and the sport brakes are a major upgrade. Now the part you will miss immediately, a 7.9 gallon gas tank. I ride hard and get about 220 per tank. My bike stays in Dynamic or Enduro mode. I agree with Adam when it comes to price but the added features list is huge. The electric screen allows me to not have to change screen and it actually works. Do not get me wrong. The 1250 is a wonderful bike. Ride safe everyone and enjoy the ride no matter what you ride.

Thanks for adding the commentary. It’s good to hear from an owner instead of the reviewers out there. I don’t think the 1300GS is a bad bike. I’ll definitely own one at some point but I hope I’m making a bit more money by then where that extra $5K isn’t as painful to swallow at the dealership. I’m really hoping that the 1300GSA retains this huge fuel tank. It’s a huge selling point for me as I really can ride a full GSA tank without stopping and want to keep that up until I’m much older and my bladder gets smaller :)

@@AdamChandler86 I miss the big tank but also noticed I did not get as tired on the XR with only a 220 mile range. I find myself going to long without a break on the GSA. Guess we will find out riding to Oregon in June.

Hi, I just got a GSA1250 over the 1300 for exactly the same reason. I wasn't blown away by 1300. There wasn't a big enough difference between the two, so I went for fuel range and comfort.

@@AdamChandler86 and nothing can be moved over from 1250 thanks bmw infact bmw sealed their fate as far as me buying again from them because last march i booked a factory tour intending to ride to berlin park her outside her birthplace then take a look at how she was created. Booked hull rotterdam ferry £485 and 7 hotels all around germany approx £100 each guess what dude those f☆☆kers emailed me 2 days before trip to announce tour cancelled. But no worries i got my €9 back ffs absolute tw☆ts i went anyway and parked my baby right outside the factory but mate never again

Nice bike you have there! I miss the motor on my ‘09 GSA. Way more tractor like with that dry clutch. That was a great bike. My wife and I were in Newfoundland in August. Yeah, basically Oregon for the MOA Rally then head north from there and I just have to be home 4-5 weeks later.

I'm not so sure. I'd prefer black calipers purely because they're easier to keep clean. Once gold gets baked-on brake-dust, it's impossible to get off.

Yes…Logically 1250 is the value, best bang for the buck. But my brain creeps up every night and whisper: 1300.. 1300…1300. Tough decision but if you like it it’s probably the right choice.

I've wanted to go to that one. I've heard great things. The BMW MOA Rally is June 13th in Oregon if you're in the area. I'll be leaving there on 6/17 and heading up Oregon and Washington BDRs then to Alaska by July 1st.

Oh great, no you got me rethinking buying a new GSA😉. Knowing I can transfer most of the farkels just encourages. BTW, I did the arctic circle this past June on my '16 GSA. Definitely swap the Touratech suspension first as this makes it bearable. Enjoy and great vid!

Yes! I made a spreadsheet of every Farkle on my 2018 GSA and the only things that didn’t fit were Skid Plate, Crash Bars, Radiator Guards and a couple of small cheap things I can’t remember right now but almost everything moved right over. I can report the suspension is now on!

2023 1250 GS (Not GSA) for me is the ultimate bike and you can easily transfer all your existing accessories over to the new bike

I wish I could quantify it with data other than to say my first motorcycle was a 2009 GSA and I took that thing on single track, mud pits, through deep water, locked up the motor, took it on iron butts and just utterly abused it. Then I bought a 500CC enduro and was like “I don’t get the appeal of these small bikes” Like the small bikes are faster off the line and easier to pick up but you really have to be thoughtful on what you pack and they’re more bouncy and loose over hard terrain. I love the weight of the GS on technical terrain. So I think starting with a GSA (this is my 5th) and my experience with 300-690 CC singles has been good but not revolutionary for all of their compromises. When we did 15 days in Colorado and Utah, I took my GSA even though we were trailering out and there wasn’t any terrain that wasn’t doable on the GS. It doesn’t sound logical but it’s just one guy’s opinion. I could just be a bad rider :P

@@AdamChandler86 It makes sense. A friend of mine says something similar. You just take it slower and it tractors through everything, as long as you understand basic technique of riding in certain scenarios like deep sand, loose rock etc. I've been riding my CRF450L and recently picked up a 2013 1200GS and the weight of it scares me. Ill build up to it and take it offroad later this spring.

Arctic Circle 🎯😉😊 Your Wife Is Fantastic! 👍 I purchased the 1250 GSA in 2021 May because they wouldn’t let me see my family my Mom, my Girlfriend . It only took me six years to pull the trigger. I’ve been practicing in Connecticut, Rhode Island in southeastern mass keep in the islands. The Forest in Connecticut fantastic and I love the Connecticut back roads I’m a native to Rhode Island and at the age of 61 traverse them uncountable amount of times. I retired in 2023 and have accumulated 30,000 miles on the GSA. When I’m on the back roads I drive like Miss Daisy I wanna enjoy what’s around me, and not a set time frame to get from point a to point B because that’s all I have done my whole life as a sales representative in hydraulics. I live in Sterling Connecticut because I wanted to it was a centralized point for the geographical area that I represented which was approximately 3500 mi.². Windham county New London county state of Rhode Island. I think my bike at 30,000 miles is quite tight since really I didn’t push it ever other than the fact of going from Connecticut to Cape Cod and approximate speed 75 mph. Sometimes a little more sometimes a little less depending on the traffic flow. I don’t know geographically The route in which you would like to take to get to the Arctic Circle, But very interested a lot of times I will use Google Earth drop down above the tree line and follow the roadways since I had the time to do it now or points of interest keep dropping down and looking around to see what it looks like the familiarize myself. There’s a KZreadr called Pavlin in which he does a trek from Bulgaria, Latvia Estonia, and then crossed all the provinces in Russia, all the way to Magadan in Siberia. I loved it. I enjoyed it. I think he is quite a special man to pull off a stunt like that by himself, considering the vastness and considering what I know about what’s going on in Russia. Thanks John for the comment! I moved to Charlotte from New Hampshire. I miss riding up north, but not the long winters. I think I'd trade northeast roads even though there'd be less months to ride. As for the north trip to Alaska, it's a future video but I'll review the route and solicit more feedback from viewers. All told, about 12,000 miles and 80% dirt is what I have planned. But some people might have some feedback on making the route better. I'll probably do that video in late-May.

Had 1250GS. Now bought 1300GS. It is day and night. 1300GS is just on another level. Never wanted a GSA, cause in Europe there are gas stations everywhere in 50-80km/35-50miles. Can`t see reason for added weight being driven all the time with me. Rumours are there will be 1300GSA with DCT. That would I can consider to be a plausible reason to buy it.

I’m looking forward to riding a 1300 this summer. Not sure I want a DCT but I do recognize most GS riders never leave pavement, that’s not a dig and is just a fact so BMW making these bikes more for street is completely rational.

Same. Sold my 1250 to a good friend after 50k miles. Now I ride a 1300, so Im kinda lucky I have sold my bike but can still ride it. When you ride them back to back its very clear what bmw has done, the 1300 is that much better and the agility is next level especially offroad yet it still retained that GS feeling. Id be happy to have either of them anyway.

MaxBMW (their New Hampshire location). John is the sales manager. I’ve bought 5 or 6 new BMWs through him but every single time, I’ll go to 12 different dealers, get the best prices and then take that spreadsheet to him and see if he can beat it. Every single time, he does. That’s really all I can say about them. I’ll take their price back to every other dealer and they all say no. That and Max will move the bike to any location for me and they’re 100% transparent on pricing with no extra fees other than $179 for their doc fee which has been the same for 15 years.

I’ve addressed this in another comment that I pinned. You should be able to see it. Short story is, please spend 2 months shopping every dealer in the country and you can pay about what I did you have to put in a lot of time. I had 12 dealers all negotiating through me then I stacked demo and corporate discounts on top of manufacturer ones. It’s work. You won’t pay what I did without putting in that time. I made a video 4 weeks ago that explains the process.

Well, first of all I put in a lot of work. There’s a video I published 4 weeks ago outlining the process but it involves getting the best price on stock at 12 dealers, sharing those prices with all of the dealers, seeing if they’ll beat the best price then putting the bike in Demo Status with BMW to save 10% more then leveraging corporate discounts I have for $500 more off and finally seeing who will be the closest to drive (closest was 11 hours each way). It was a great price and lower than anything posted for a 1250 that’s fully loaded. But you also have to factor in dealer fees like BMW of Charlotte charges $600 to uncrate the bike which put them too high despite being local to me. the issue is, I have thousands of subscribers. If everyone goes to their dealer and says “Adam paid this much, match it” that’s a shitty thing to do and people will do it and them I’m the jerk. The truth is, BMW North America has regional and quarterly incentives not all dealers can offer. Sometimes a dealer will sell a GS at their cost because there’s an incentive to move a bike that’s been on the floor for a year and they get a credit from BMW at the end of the quarter for moving it. Some have hit their demo quota and can’t put a bike in demo status for you. So many factors that make my price impossible to match unless you were at the same dealer the same day as me. It makes me into a bad guy and I’m going to keep buying BMWs and don’t want a target on my back for putting 3 months into the process of getting a great price. I am sorry.

I’m pinning your comment as a lot of people are asking for that. I was specifically asked by 4 different dealers to not share their final price with anyone else even other dealers. I have a friend who is a sales manager in the Midwest. I showed her my final spreadsheet and she said “wow northeast incentives are really good this quarter” she couldn’t touch those prices without losing $250 on her sale. It really is a complicated thing to do. If you want to put in the time (1-2 hours a day for a few weeks), you too can get a great deal.

@@AdamChandler86 very concise response. No need to apologize. This is my first time coming across ur vids. Was more interested in why you chose 1250 instead of 1300. But most people with an online presence don’t share the prices they pay and was wondering why is all. Sound like you don’t want others to get near the price you pay without putting in the work you did and/or you don’t wanted the dealer/dealers national or otherwise upset to know ur helping others get a similar deal because the metric may be different depending on location. I’m assuming to maintain the relationship with said dealer in the future.

Indeed, nice to meet you, stranger. I reply to everyone and I treat everyone like we’re face to face having a real conversation so I am being honest when I say there are some good price and they’ll get better when the 1300GSA arrives and is for sale so it’s a good time to shop around. I’m also on the board for the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America so I try to be sensitive because BMW dealers really don’t have great margins today and rely on service which this channel directly competes with by posting how-to videos for oil changes and valve checks. Yes but that’s not apples to apples. The R1300GSA will be larger and higher than the R1300GS but with a much higher price tag. So if price was no option, I would have in 1-2 model years just bought an R1300GSA instead.

@@AdamChandler86 I’ve been on the new 1300 when it was first displayed in America at the BMW Motorade in Alabama, and I have seen them parked in mass inside a dealership with a dozen of each all parked together. The 1250 has a higher seat height and comes with an 8 gal tank. The 1300 does not as of yet and is noticeably lower in seat height than the 1250.

Same here (Barber + Dealers) the one thing to keep in mind is the 1300, when parked is at the lowest seat height since the rear shock will raise when you hit a few miles per hour. So it is going to be lower when parked than an R1250GS/GSA. Agreed on the tank but I'm hoping when the adventure is announced in September that the tank will be larger.

I have seen people make that mistake time and time again. Buy the last model year of anything German and you’ll be happy. I want a manual M2 competition but I’m not buying the one that just came out. Going to wait until a final edition is announced for the car that’s been in production for 5 years before putting money up.

You did rights thing because engine on 1300 sound Like shit plus battery problems(to much electronic) rating battery fast!!!👍

I don’t know if I’ve even heard a 1300 yet. I (admittedly) don’t watch Motorcycle videos on KZread but I have seen them up close and sat on one and I do plan on riding one in June for a bit. Hoping to come back with some better opinions on the bike other than “it’s too expensive”
