#dancrosby #lambolapdog In this video, I explain why I bought a 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS. This car was incredibly iconic to me growing up, was a huge part of pop-culture, and I just find it cool. From the boat-like driving experience, to the mean looks, and the slightly altered LT1 V8 from the Corvette of the time, the 96 SS embodies exactly what I think of when I hear "Impala", and in a way is the end of the true old school Impalas... and the B-Body platform. Like my Viper and my Cobra, I really wanted one of these without too many miles, so I could enjoy it just as it would have been back in 1996. This is likely one of the cleanest ones left, (I rolled it over the 10k mile mark in the first day of ownership) and I'm incredibly grateful to have such a badass example in my collection.
Let me know your thoughts on the Impala, and what else you'd like to see on this car!

I’ve had a 95 and 2 96s and I can tell you that the 95 is more sporty than the 96. The last year 1996 they gave it a floor shifter and soften the suspension to make it more smooth but it made the car floaty and drive more like a Cadillac fleetwood instead of a sport car. Yes the 96 is the most desirable but the 94 and 95 are more fun to drive in my opinion. I still have a 96 black with 63k. Love this car.

I bought my 96 Impala new back in September 1995. I got the first 96 delivered to my local dealership. It was my daily driver for about 15 years. I still have it but it is a garage queen now - connected to a trickle charger. It now has 315,000 miles. We only use it when we're hauling our grandkids around. Our C5 Corvette is not well suited to hauling the kids. You mentioned the loose steering. The steering was so loose I had to replace the steering box. That helped a little. I love the car - flaws and all.

@́ ' I don't recall the brand. It came from O'Reilly's with a "lifetime" warranty. The 96 Impala SS comes with a gearbox that is 3.0 turns - lock to lock. In other words, 1.5 turns from center. Chevy calls it "quick ratio". The Caprice of the same year comes with the same gearbox except it is 4 turns lock to lock. The first gearbox I got from O'Reilly's was for a Caprice. It would have worked except the ratio would have been even worse. I did not install it. I took it back and got the gearbox for the Impala SS. I think the slop is due to the gearbox itself and the other steering components (bushings, linkages and tires).

Back in '96 I bought a new '96 Impala SS Dark Cherry Metallic (DCM). "Room to Zoom" was the motto of the day. LOL The 1996 was the only one that finally got it right. As you pointed out in the video, it had the floor shifter, the tach, etc. The MSRP for mine was $26,192. It was a great car, but I hardly drove it because I stored it every winter (living in the rust belt sucks!) I sold it at 3 years old with just over 18K miles on it. The guy who bought it had won the NY State Lottery... he paid me $26K for it. Worked for me!

Had a ‘96 Grey-Green which I eventually put on 244,000+ miles before selling it…drove all over the Eastern states with it from NY to Camp Lejeune to MI where I did the Woodward Dream Cruise 3 years in a row with it!!! One of the best cars I’ve ever owned…couldn’t go to a gas station without someone coming over to look at it…everyone loved the color which was the more rare color! Drove it as a daily driver…even in 5” of snow… I’m 69 so I learned how to really drive a rear wheel drive car (all we had back in the day!) Even delivered pizzas with it for a couple of years…guys would come out of the house just to see it!

I got a 96 Impalas SS I bought it in 2018 sat for years before I bought it from the original owner who bought it brand new. When I got it it sat at 43244 miles. Paint faded really bad, but interior was immaculate. No rips in the seats no stains in the carpet. Doing a total overhaul on it. Currently waiting for my LT5 from Chevrolet Performance, I have at least 3 weeks to go before it arrives, and it's off for it's overhaul.

The 1996 was my 2nd favorite car, when I was growing up, I finally got the burgundy one about 8 years ago, I'm in the process of looking for the teal green impala, that's the color I really wanted. My first favorite car, was the 1987 monte carlo super sport which I purchased back in 1994, when I was in the navy, now I'm 46 years old. I have one more dream vehicle to get is that 2005 Supersport silverado extended cab, I love that truck and would like to have it in black. Would love to have a 1970 Supersport chevelle convertible, right now the price is out of my league.. I love old school Supersport!!!

@@LamboLapdog The only thing that GM did wrong with that engine is put the water pump on top of the opti spark ⚡️ which is a huge pain and costly for the car. That’s why a lot of people switch out the LT1 motor and put a LS3 or a LSX motor in it. I’ve seen some putting even put a zo6 LT4 in it as well. So many options.

For about 2 years never knew what it was because I never saw one parked and were few and far between. I have had a 1996, 1995, and currently have a 1994 rotting away in my driveway. It hasn't been driven in years. I am a female who gets angry at the thought of going to a mechanic as I will pay 3Xs as much for repair. etc etc. These are the best looking cars I have ever seen to this day. I feel vey safe when driving the car. It is heavy, solid, and there is a lot of room for a rear end or even head on collision before you reach my physical body lol! I think I will sell this one and look for one with no issues. I refuse to go to a mechanic lol!

I don't get why this fleet platform oriented on back seat customer had especially this part of cabin compromised...the GM with Caprice as well as Ford with Victoria preferred shoter wheel base with longer trunk instead of moving rear axle backwads crerating more legroom and compensating trunk making it higher&deeper. I wonder if newer cab-forward FWD platforms produced after were roomier in the back....

There's such an understated evil about this car that you will never see from a GM family car again. They play things so safe nowadays and direct every single abortion of a car at the soccer moms/suburban middle class whitebread ding dong demographic, and it's a shame that they don't make cool stuff anymore.
