    It is interesting because we are actually looking specifically for a male au pair for the very reason that we REALLY want someone to play with our boys. Our boys are SO SO energetic and we want someone who can keep up. So many of the girls we have been interviewing just don't seem to be as energetic.

    i'm headed to Shenzhen, China in 2 weeks just for this reason! So many families in China are searching for a male role model. I'm 31, spent years as a coach, broadcast producer, and cell tower climber.

    I'm a Korean guy who is getting ready for Aupair. I'm pretty doing well so far and the parents who met me liked me. Problem is I don't have enough proof to prove I'm a pretty good babysitter lol I couldn't find plenty Aupair application videos on KZread. I think now I know why. They don't have nice profile as some females do. Then I came across to your video, at the beginning I was sad because of the fact parents prefer female Aupair. But it's not hopeless. I'll make big effort on it. It's awesome you met 3 families as a man Aupair. Thanks for super useful video!

    Hello Graham. Thank you for the very information video! I have a few questions: So, I have observed that many potential host families online will mark that they are interested in both female and male au pairs. Do you think they still might in fact still only prefer female au pairs? Likewise, have you observed any particular preference for particular profile picture types, amount of experience, and/or perceived personality/assertiveness, or a lack thereof? Thank you.

    Hi ! When or how many messages do you recommend to make a call with the family?

  • @grahamcargle

    @grahamcargle

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi!! I suggest before making the call, get some basic info about the family such as what they expect from the au pair, the schedule, the pocket money, etc. The process should go a little something like: 1. Send message to/Receive message from the family 2. If you like the family, send several messages about the details. 3. If you like what they say, set up a video call. 4. During the call, ask about the family and what they're like 5. Think about what they said and perhaps do another call to hammer out details. 6. Decide to go with the family, or look for another. I hope this is helpful!

    as much as i agree with the reasons you gave, i also think safety is a pretty big factor for this one especially in childcare. Unfortunate as it is, and as much as the majority of male au pairs have good intentions at heart, males are statistically more likely to be perpetrators of abuse grooming etc. This shouldn't be a reason to discriminate as au pairs are all background checked and most au pairs are simply kind and loving people, but I can understand why a family might be more inclined to have a woman look after their children than a man just due to unconscious bias about safety. also probably explains why males sometimes need more hours of childcare experience and more referees than women

    To be honest I don't really care about male or female because I have 2 boys but people stereotype female as nurturing gender and for parents who has daughter usually male au pair is out of question. Also, host expect minimum to moderate housework assistance like dish, laundry, cleaning, and cooking. Which again stereotypical female role. I wouldn't mind since I could use strength of male au pair in pinch like moving grocery or furniture instead.

    I dont think its sexist...most of the time, women are the ones who carry children and birth them...And most of the time not always, women do have more "MATERNAL" instincts its nature! Stop trying to down play how women contribute to childhood and womanhood experiences....Men can be great au pairs as well and I'm sad that you can't get many host families...But do Not down play womanhood and our sex...By calling this sexism
