Why Hollywood Won't Cast Hugh Grant Anymore

1994’s Four Weddings and A Funeral propelled Hugh Grant to superstardom and made him into a rom-com darling, heartthrob, and bona fide Hollywood superstar. You couldn’t watch a rom-com and not watch Grant be a loveable loser or guy you hate to love.
However, today you don’t see much of the rom-com crown prince on the big screen. Where has he gone? Has Hollywood gotten enough of Grant? He wouldn’t be the first one to make such an appearance in Tinseltown one day, and the next day, he's not.
But it seems Hollywood won't cast Hugh Grant anymore. Why has this come to be? Find out how by watching this video.

That didn't seem right so a bit of Googling showed me that Cloud Atlas grossed $130 million total i.e. they were talking about US ticket sales again. Also Hugh Grant was like 9th billing or something in that film. How come Tom Hanks or Hale Berry or Hugo Weaving aren't being blamed for this film not doing as expected? I'm not subbing to a channel which plays with the facts to fit a narrative. I can't trust this type of output.

Sure, as long as you hurt nobody, whatever you do with your own bloody money and your own bloody life is your and no one else´s business. However, outing prostitution as illegal can and has taken down several criminal syndicates throughout the world that treat people as little more than sex slaves.

And something that bothers me a lot is how unsafe actually prostitution is, if you want to think of women's safety, then legalizing it is the best option. It will (might) also prevent the transmission of STD's. Plus, legal or not, some people will always pay for sex, as proven in the video. :p

In every interview I've read with Hugh Grant over many years, he says some version of "I never set out to be an actor, just sort of fell into it and had big success, it was easy, so there you go. I don't really like it." He's also said that of all the characters he has played, he most resembles the one from About A Boy. So that's the reason he's not acting much any more. Forget all that other fluff. Also, at the time, he was lauded for his handling of his sex-with-a-hooker scandal. But now I know I can start a KZread channel where I just make stuff up.

Truth is he's just lazy and doesn't have to work if he doesn't want to...he's fine doing one movie a year, usually a rom/com followed by a serious film then repeat. He has no problem finding work if he wants to.

  • @marigeobrien

First, a title like "why Hollywood won't cast 'Fill-in-the-blank' anymore" is highly questionable. Acting is not a full time job. Between directors and producers often wanting unknown actors (to avoid any stereotypes) and the fact that actors in major movies make enough money so they don't have to work regularly, saying they won't be cast anymore is pushing it. And not in a nice way. Second, he is getting older, even too old for the rom-com genre, lending more credence to the idea that maybe he doesn't want to work anymore. Maybe he wants to retire. Third, actors often take breaks from working, even breaks that last years, and for all kinds of reasons. That's one of the charms of acting. I know that type of title has stronger punch. But it feeds into the ignorance of what acting is about. And, since actors are affected professionally by promotions like this, I think it's kind of a low-blow.

The photo that you used of the woman called Tinglan Hong is not correct, the woman in the photo is a Hong Kong singer named Miriam Yeung.

The profitability of of the films has been stated in ticket sales to make them sound like financial losses, but of course DVD sales, TV, and on demand should be added in. Films make far more money than just box office ticket sales.

I don't know if you can use the sentence "Why Hollywood Won't Cast Hugh Grant Anymore" when he's been in at least one movie almost every year since 1985 and is currently working on another. Hollywood seems to be very willing to cast him.

I think perhaps the best one was ' Love Actually' because it covered so many aspects of love. ' Nottinghill' was rather good too. Anything associated with Richard Curtis's name is a treat. Curl up on the sofa on a rainy day and enjoy!

Hugh Grant is self deprecating, has a wonderful dry humor and his timing is impeccable. "About a boy" was a really good movie and Grant didn't get enough credit for his performance in that very fine film. "Notting Hill" was his best 'romantic comedy' type movie, but "About a boy" gets the top nod. One of the most underrated actors in my opinion. The haters focus too much on his appearance.
