Insurance is always a luxury until you need it. If Goff gets hurt, I feel a lot better having Hendon Hooker in reserve than Nate Sudfeld. A third-round pick is not that great an expense. Anyone saying otherwise is just inventing reasons to gripe.

100% + if you go look at what the top backups are getting paid it’s around 8M, being able to pay Hooker on a rookie deal is saving salary cap for other positions

He did not take him as an insurance policy. He took him because the back up QB position has been neglected for years.

The Detroit Lions could actually get a good draft pick for him because the cowboys, the Lions and especially the Raiders need a young talented quarterback on a rookie contract because all three of those teams have question marks with that position moving forward. The Raiders I think would be the best fit for hooker mainly because he has a legitimate chance to win that job outright

They should make this move just for the competition sake because you really only have two quarterbacks and you've seen them playing the NFL. Neither one have a high ceiling Aiden O'Connell is a fine young player, but there's zero chance with his stiff legs that he can ever make any play that isn't always on schedule. People always like to talk about Tom Brady, but the difference is Tom. Brady actually can move around in the pocket and by time this guy has an extreme hard time moving and throwing and doing any of that. He mean he puts up a great effort but not enough to actually win 10, 11, 12, 13 games. At least if we get Hendon hooker, there's a legit chance that he could be a star. He could also be crap, but I'd roll the dice on bringing in a guy with that kind of talent because that's what you have to do when you're looking at two options like the Raiders are that are just average at best

He knows he a back it’s no competition it just be ready if we need you is the best hooker take because we know if Goff get injured for any period of time it be great to have a back up that got something to prove n that no the team the players n the system

Hooker can look good in preseason and we keep him for a good back up. Worst case Hooker looks good and we trade him for picks like New England did.

Could be best case scenario if Goff gets injured. If he has a minor injury like 2021 that is nothing to worry about. Hooker could fill in for one or two games and potentially raise his value. Be awesome to get a haul for him down the road like the Pats did with Jimmy G.

Lions fans need to shut up about the Hendon Hooker thing. He is a 3rd round pick!! We have a top 7 qb in the NFL who took us to within a half of going to a super bowl. Screw Hendon Hooker
