In this video we head north to escape the summer heat and take a little vacation. Our destination is the Adirondack Mountains, specifically the high peaks area. This area has 46 high peaks ranging from Mt. Marcy, the highest point in NY, at 5343 feet to the lowest peak of 3900 feet. 40 of these peaks can be accessed through the ADK loj where we stayed for two nights. First we made a stop at Ricketts glen state park in Pennsylvania to hike the falls trail. this trail has over 20 waterfalls along its 9 mile loop. part of the loop is closed due to a rock slide but you can get to either side of the trail closure along the route as long as your willing to do some back tracking. The waterfalls were amazing and the campground was quiet and clean aside from our rogue dog issue our time was nice. From there we headed north to the Adirondacks we booked a stay at the ADK Loj around heart lake. this is a hub for day hikers and backpackers as it has trail access to the high peaks area and is a great base camp for all who want to explore the area. We ended up hiking two trails while were there, taking avalanche pass to avalanche lake one one day and then hiking up Mt Jo the next, the trails were great, the dogs had fun and the scenery and company was amazing. From there we left the ADK Loj spent some time in Lake Placid, walked around Mirror Lake, and headed to our next camp site at Buck Pond State Park, we had a great quiet campsite where we were able to relax and enjoy a nice fire and dinner. The rain came in late that night and we left early returning to Lake Placid for Coffee and breakfast before heading back south towards home. Initially we were going to stay at another state park on our way back to Virginia but found a great harvest host at the Appalachian Brewing company in Mechanicsburg PA where we had a great meal some good beer, and a safe quiet nights rest before heading home. It was a great trip and awesome break from work and the daily life we all live.
