Lionel Messi was involved in 60+ goals for club and country 38 goals and 25 assists throughout the season and while some can say he played in a farmers league this was a World Cup season and his performances at the World Cup shouldn’t be downplayed to the fact that it was only a 7 game tournament and a 4 week period. The World Cup is the biggest event in football and how you perform at the tournament has an impact on the Ballon dor and he was the best player in the tournament and also the best player for Argentina during their World Cup triumph he absolutely deserved another Ballon dor but those people that wanna discredit his greatness down to a 7 game tournament don’t watch the game off the eye test and only care about goals nothing else.

Fifa isn't involved whatsoever in this award. FIFA has its own accolade which is THE BEST award. Beside, if you think that the ballon d'or isn't affected by the World cup. Only eight. Erling Haaland absolutely deserves the Ballon dor this year and he should be in that conversation 100% he scored 52 goals and won a treble with Manchester City but despite that he still won’t win the Ballon dor as even though he put up record breaking numbers last season he wasn’t the best player in the world in my opinion. He’s a goalscoring machine and will score goals all day every day but there’s a reason why they award the Golden Boot and people need to know that just because you score a lot of goals that doesn’t determine whether you’re the best player in the world because not everything is about goals and it’s not even the stats, in the big games towards the back stretch of the season he went missing in these finals even though his team won but his impact was minimal and he had one of the quietest runs that I’ve ever seen from a Ballon Dor contender and that could stop him from winning the award and at times he wasn’t the most important player on Manchester City as the impact the player has on their team is beyond scoring goals.

If we look at 2002 Ronaldo won it due to world cup and was injured half the season for club Canavarlo in 2006 same thing and Modric Griezmann and Mbappe all finished above Messi in 2018 despite Messi being statistically better then them all year it shows the world cup is a huge factor to the ballon dor as its the biggest trophy in football but ofcourse this will still be a tough one for me the disadvantages between them is that Messi didnt go pass the Ro16 in the ucl and for Haaland ghosted in big games so for me it will be Messi 55% and Haaland 45% as the world cup is much bigger than the ucl

Well its different than how you have put it : 2002 - Ronaldo won the World Cup and UCL as well as having 30 Goals and 8 assists in 44 matches... Good stats, great club season and of course world cup - So world cup wasnt the pure factor, so that cancels what you said about 2002. 2006 - Cannavaro won the World Cup, the World Cup Silver Ball, Italian Player of the Year with Juventus and Fifa Best Mens Player. Now while he may not have great goal scoring stats, that is because he is a defender. Thus unfair to "statistically" compare a defender with an attacker like Messi. Cannavaro was one of the best defenders that year as well as his trophies. - So world cup AGAIN wasnt the pure factor, so that cancels what you said about 2006. Now here is where you 'suspiciously' left out some information about the Ballon d'Or winners... You say that the world cup plays a huge part, yet you don't list 2010 or 2014? 2010 - Messi won nothing significant, yet had good stats. Xavi and Iniesta, who were on the same Barcelona side as messi, who won the same club trophies as Messi, also won the world cup with spain... Yet neither of them won? Sneijder came 2nd at world cup whilst winning the treble with Inter Milan, yet didn't even make top 3 (Remember this for later). - So the world cup doesnt influence the 2010 ballon d'or. 2014 - Ronaldo also won nothing significant, yet also had good stats. Haaland had 52 goals and 9 assists in 53 matches. Now the reason Messi gets put into the top 3 from his world cup victory, of which I might add again isnt the sole factor. Messi also wasn't the best player at the tournament, failing to be top scorer, top assister, most goal contributions or even the best play maker. Might I also add that 'being the best player on the winning team' is very different to 'being the best player at the competition', which is why messi won the World Cup Golden Ball, for being the best player on the winning team. All and all, Messis goals during this tournament were far from "Carrying" quality. Whilst people argue that Haaland ghosted in big finals, More than half of messis goals were from penalties alone, which is a very underwhelming stat, that if applied to anybody else, they would be mocked for being a "Penalty Merchant" Messi also got 13 G/A from international friendlies against the likes of "Estonia and the UAE". So Messi had a weak club season and an alright world cup win. Why does he deserve to win it? Apply that performance to anybody else. - "Mbappe had a weak club season and an alright world cup win, yet deserves the ballon d'or" - "Neymar had a weak club season and an alright world cup win, yet deserves the ballon d'or" - "Ronaldo had a weak club season and an alright world cup win, yet deserves the ballon d'or" It doesnt work, because Messi has an influence on the sport. His era is up unfortunately, but his legacy is the only thing that makes his "Weak Club Campaign and World Cup Win" ballon d'or material. No other reason. Now Apply everything together and Haaland deserves the win. Just use logic mate.

Saying we should give it to Haaland because he is younger and it will help the sport stay popular is the worst argument ever. You could say Haaland had a better season and more achievements, but saying he should.get it because he is young doesnt make any sense. In my opinion, the world cup is the most important achievement possible. Without Messi, Argentine would have never won itand I think Messi deservesthe Ballon D'Or more. Mbappe and Messi both are better than Haaland. I’m even Norwegian. Of curse he is a legend over here, but he isn’t a better football player. If anyone says that his dribbling skills and passing skills are even (okay) I think there’s something wrong with them then. KDB is such a big part to why he scored so many goals too. Only Messi and KDB can see and do the passes that KDB did last season. Haaland is lucky to have KDB. And when he don’t have a strong team behind, he can’t do it. He doesn’t perform nearly as good for Norway then what he does for Man City and that’s because he needs a good team to score goals and be a good player. And he also misses a lot of open nets too. If Messi don’t deserve the ballondor this year at least give it to Mbappe or maybe even KDB. Yes Haaland is probably top 5 in the world just because he scores so many goals, but never put him over Mbappe. This is coming from a Norwegian too. And I love Haaland, but he just isn’t better then Messi, Mbappe and KDB.

Messi set a new wc record in recieving and scoring penalties. He was sent out of CL by Bayern, doing absolutely nothing. He was bought to PSG to win the CL for them, but failed utterly. And not to forget, he played outside a top rated European league.

But if you are being picky with "It's still 1 G/A more", well messi played 2 matches more so cry. Match rating isn't a factor when considering the ballon d'or - mostly because match rating isnt a fixed system and many websites and companies have their own different ratings on each match. Fifa best player is owned by Fifa, Fifa host world cup and thus was written in the stars who ever won the world cup would win that award. Laures cant be considered because it is an "Outside Footballing" award. And most definitely messi has not broken more records than haaland. The awards broken by haaland in the premier league alone are more than messi this whole season. But hey, if you want to base your entire outlook on opinions instead of facts, your loss i guess.

Messi won FIFA Best, IFHSS Best player, best playmaker, and best int'l scorer plus Laureus prize, the most prestigious bc it's for all sports. Messi was best player of the WC. H. was not the best player of the treble. He went AWOL in the last 7 games of the UCL. Rodri was best player. KDB had better stats too.

FIFA best is based of FIFA world cup, not surprised that messi won since he won the world cup. IFHSS doesn't count towards ballon d'or as it is an external awarding company. Call it what you will. Even mbappe scored a hat trick in the FWC finals... the feat happened for the first time after 1962(or maybe 1966.... I am forgetting😂). Out of which 2 were penalties. But just because someone scored off of penalties doesn't mean that it will lead to the nullification of the fact that someone scored a hat trick in the FWC finals since 1962 (or 1966) right? So Messi's goals may be pointless or worthless in your opinion, but that didn't stop him from winning the Golden ball did it ? Same way, Haaland's tap ins may be worthless in my opinion, but it won't change the fact that they won a treble. I already said that I'm not taking away any credit from Haaland. All I'm saying is that the guy needs to achieve all these feats more for him to have actually won it hands down, which is a time consuming process. Therefore, do not give it prematurely to Haaland.
