It’s also for personal growth I guess. I had to break out of my comfort zone coz I’m quite introverted. First semester I didn’t share the room. Second semester I had to share with 3 other guys. So you can imagine my discomfort. I had to break through that and learn to talk. The convenience was that there was a study area at our res with WiFi. So if you don’t want to go to the library on campus, you know you are sorted (provided that that res has that facility).

Thank you for this, peace of mind for me, I thought res would be a better option for my daughter first year for 2023 as firstly the varsity is in a different province and thought better for her to experience and make friends and if she does not enjoy at least she can find a friend to share private accommodation later.

Hey, please find your university’s Student housing office and ask to apply for res on campus (if applications are still open). If applications are closed, you’ll have to stay off campus

Heya, depends on the university and which res you applied to. UP does have residences where first years have single rooms

Hey Wanda, I am not sure about the age limit🤔 but with university residences, if you’re older and in undergrad then its harder to get into res, but older people in postgrad do get into res. So undergrad residences have an age limit, yes. Im not sure what it is though

Hey Advice Thank you for the compliment 😊 Yes, if you stay at a catering res, you will get less pocket money from NSFAS compared to someone who stays at a self catering residence (where they have to cook for themselves)
