Thank you for the data based comparison. I’m from the US and really believe that the support of family (however defined), health, a clean environment, safety and education are the bedrock of a thriving society. Hopefully, we can get our sh&t together here. In the meantime, I really want to spend some time in Finland❤.

I am so happy to discover your videos. I live in Central Florida. You are right, doctors in the US are expensive. Finland is my favorite country. Visited your wonderful country two times in the past. Love it, just love it. People are not too inside themselves as I heard prior to visiting Finland. Here in the US people also like their space. One nice lady in Helsinki helped me to upload an app on my phone while I was waiting for my bus, so I could easily see what time my bus arrives. An amazingly kind bus driver made sure I did not miss my stop. Sales personnel was so extremely helpful. I hope to go there again soon. :)

I've been to Finland 6 times and I'm moving there, I love it there!

The happiness index is more a reflection of security and stability than actual emotional happiness so those who go ‘but everyone seems so miserable’ don’t really understand the methodology behind the study. As for the politics; I think the recent proposed changes to immigration and employment rules will probably mean that that security and stability is for Finns (or at best Europeans) only. It’s quite sad really as Finland was building a great reputation as a place for skilled foreign professionals to move to. That said, great video as ever!

traditionally, foreigners had very little chance to move to Finland. Only since joining the EU did that open up at all.

I want to work there so badly! I'm learning finnish by my own with what I have and as I gather information of you guys everyday life style, what strikes me is that is no different than the way I like to live my everyday life, so that makes me so happy! I won't let the chance escape. Congratulations to all finns for being such a beautiful country.

11:17 A huge problem here in the US is that people tend to see wealth less as a means of improving one's quality of life, but as a way of "keeping score" in a game of one upmanship. It's show over substance. This also tends to lead to less of a tendency to work for a more equitable society. If people below your income level are doing better, then you look "less successful" in comparison.

In Portugal, ambulances are free to anyone and if you need to be a few days in the hospital, that is free too! But we pay for an emergency or a consultation. We also have a full month of vacation. We have paid parental leaves for less time for both parents. But we don't have the box and we don't pay for childbirth in the maternity 😁

I find it ironic that my Great Grandparents found it to be a better opportunity to move to the US from Finland in the latter 1800's 😂 I'm sure they would be surprised and happy if they were able to see how Finland is now. It wasn't a horrible place to live in their time, but there was something alluring about moving to America at that time.

There was terrible starvation from time to time over the centuries. Finnish Americans (including their US descendants) are significantly more wealthy than than their cousins in Finland. That applies to other Nordic Americans, as well.

I don't even feel safe working in retail stores anymore. Though warehouse/industrial work is no better. I feel a bit safer with the company I'm at now based out of Spain 🇪🇸. I was hoping that they had a warehouse in Finland 🇫🇮 so I could transfer 😂, I have to keep looking for work to transfer to Finland 🇫🇮!😊

I’m neither from Finland or the US but have Finnish friends. However I watch these videos because it’s useful and interesting to learn about different cultures. And find Aleksi’s voice so relaxing 😊

I work at a Waldorf school in the states. I also worked at public schools out here too. Finland eduction is a lot like Waldorf education when it comes to a few things. Kids are more happier and it shows!

@@crystalwebster2005 Because in the US, both corporations and the government value profit over human life so there are no regulations preventing extreme prices on life saving medicine. Most of what makes the US the richest country is owned by a very small percentage of the population. Finland along with most other western European countries have regulations to significantly reduce the occurrence of these issues or at least the effects on the average person caused by these issues, and while not perfect, they are vastly superior to what the US has. In the US, taxes go towards military spending so the government can profit even more by stealing resources and/or taking advantage of instability and often times causing or at least assisting in this instability in various countries over the years (Read Killing Hope by William Blum for very detailed accounts of US interventions after World War II). Barely any tax revenue in comparison is spent on education, healthcare, etc., things that help people, because they are unprofitable.

I'd be interested in seeing you comparing figures of Finland with Germany or France. I'm from the latter, but living in the former and I always compare different things in both countries, and some I prefer in my native country of France, and vice versa.

Great video as always. I have a concern about how teachers treat immigrants children. As an intending immigrant to Finland. I got to know according to some KZreadrs with reference statistics, that teachers tend to make immigrant children develop low self-esteem and feel incapable of university education instead the supervisor "pushed" them to vocational schools. (especially African immigrant children) Can you clarify this, please? I hope you give feedback on this. Thanks

Most locations that I am aware of have public clinics and hospitals where the fee is based on ability to pay I worked for 25 years at such a clinic in Los Angeles County, and almost every patient aid about 0)

Not only you get money for studying, state also gives hundreds of dollars per moth to housing expences, free or half priced public transportation, etc..

I think Finns are just happier based on their down to earth outlook on life. It’s not like Finns have had it easy down through the centuries, with different nations attempting to oppress them. But somehow they have understood a bigger meaning in life hard work and sometimes suffering. In spite of the natural social distancing, Finns tend to understand everyone needs each other and so their social responsibility is high.

If you decide not to retire or to return, I would like to see your comments on Finnish literature, painting, and music(like Sibelius). I love several Finnish authors from Aleksis Kivi to crime story writer Joensuu. I even have a copy of the Kalevala and a an album of associated music.

I'm curious to know if Finnish people know much about Minnesota. Of all the US states, Minnesota is where the most Finnish immigrants and their descendants live, and it shows in our culture. The weather and climate here is very similar to Finland, and even our population size is about the same, as well as our nickname! (Land of 1000 Lakes vs Land of 10000 Lakes) Minnesota is the state considered to be the hub for all Nordic immigrants as we also have the most Norwegian and Swedish descendants. A lot of Finnish behaviors and preferences shown in your videos often resonate with me as a Finnish American. I often wish I could move to Finland, but unfortunately it seems modern immigration is nearly impossible.

In my opinion, I think these kinds of policies can make people getting passive and people cannot drive the country to get more wealthy. One thing I mean the office hour. They do it day by day aas usual, not active at all. They can stop working when times up, not when works have been done in the proper way. It was only when I hit 31 that I had any insurance other than hospitalization, and that was cheap. Growing up in the 1950's and 60's I knew no family that had any insurance other than hospitalization. Families without money had access to hospitals run by churches or other such organizations

I believe that Finland is the happiest country is pretty misleading . The thing is the criteria that made Finland " the happiest " doesn't really include peoples mental state .

I think it's probably less about being "happy" and more about being "content" because of the social security system. But also because of sisu and lack of willingness to complain. So it's a tough one to really figure out how happy Finns actually are. Definitely happier than the UK though. It is awful here.

I moved to Finland from Romania 6 months ago. Here are my findings so far: all the positive facts in the video are kept vague. Had a muscle tear, medical treatment was painkillers and got sent home. Had to use my private health care for any investigation as the “public system is very slow” -doctor words. At work, everyone is fake and lauches shitty rumours. Have not seen so much hidden drama anywhere in Europe. After quitting, people turn 180 and become very toxic. But overall, if you keep your head down, are very cautious with what you say, you will benefit from all the great systems this country made. If you want to be open and give honest feedback, you might struggle

wish i could live in finland. too bad im still a minor. 😢 even if i can’t live there, i at least hope i can visit. at least it wont be super hot outside like it is this time of year in my part of the US

I want to move to Finland so bad! I live in Texas USA and I am so sick of the shootings, politics, and unbearable heat personally. The main problem is I have no idea how we would bring our almost 2 year old dog all the way over there. I hope to visit soon in the near future with my boyfriend - hopefully the trip can inspire us to make the move somehow!

I think mostly in Europe ambulance is free. Why do you have to pay for it in Finland ?

The US doesn’t have to wait til people are so bad in health when it’s basically getting to late to deal with it to get health care if they have basic health insurance

yeah the Healthcare system here is shit compared to Finland's, We Americans are too greedy to consider doing a Universal Health care, pretty much we are on our own

In American hospitals, they charge you extra money if you want to hold your baby. Madness.

As an American, very accurate comparison. I emphasize the points about work/life balance and comparison. It's very deep in our society to compare to how well others are doing financially. Every time I need to visit the doctor, I cry. 😅 Not only is the healthcare in my state rather low in quality (especially towards women), but as you mentioned, the costs are outrageous. I can't afford it, and often go without important care. Its also worth mentioning that the US has the highest maternal mortality rate among developed countries. Our healthcare system is f****d

As an American, I envy the Finns! Finland is in my top 5 hypothetical backup countries in case this one disintegrates. I would appreciate it if Aleksi's videos didn't include footage of a certain past President--I could use a safe space and a breath of that fresh air. 😆

USA has over 300 million people and very diverse. Finland has over 5 million people and generally a homogenous society. What kills America is the bureaucracy.

Small correction. Inventing the automobile is often attributed to Karl Benz of Germany (1885), but some scholars debate whether Robert Anderson (Scotland) or Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot (France) came first. Anyway, it was certainly not America. Henry Ford (USA) invented the assembly line for cars.

I have seen all of director Aki Kaurismaki's films. In his portrayals Finns don't always appear to be very happy.

I am sorry but Finland is not comparable to the US. To be a fact you would have to compare Europe. Finland is small compared to the US and the fact Finland works is also thanks to Eastern Europe doing the factories and trading with different products. The US is much bigger and is a society that could be or almost be independent itself to the rest of the world.

This is typically of Europeans. They tend to use small comparisons when they want to say their better in some areas, then large comparisons when they want to point out the US is worse. It's also important to nor Finland not to have Mexico and the rest of Central America at its border like the US. Look at their surroundings countries and compare.

..? Americans did not invent automobil.. It was invented by Italian, French, Brit or German, depending on the details, which invention is to be considered as a first auto/car.

I worked through my chemotherapy and radiation. My hair was falling out at work. My boss told me under no uncertain terms that although I had cancer, Stage 3 breast cancer, my quality of work and quantity of work should not suffer. I worked for a public library in Ohio.

I know the American pharmaceutical companies are happy so many Finns take their pills, but it is something that makes you wonder...........why do so many people who live in Scandinavia take anti-depressants?

Finnish people, who were the happiest nation according to the report, used 82 DDD antidepressants which placed Finland seventh out of 24 countries.

Not really. Men treat their women like equals - not queens. It often means that romantic gestures are few and far between. You are expected to bring in half the income and do half of all work. But your views and opinions are respected and you can expect to make all big decisions together. Your husband likely carries equal responsibility for all domestic matters and care for children. I most definitely prefer it this way and really don’t need to get flowers that often or doors opened for me. Then again, I am also a Finn. 😂

I'm not a TV show trying to impress/entertain. I am romantic, though I feel that is personal based on characteristics. Yes, I write poems and love good surprises, not bad ones. So, equal can also mean if he's abusive the female needs to be abusive right along with him. I'm a strict being, that doesn't mean I will find my king in Finland. It's just mean I'm willing to search the world, heavens and earth for that special one whose worth my love/time. Then again, I really don't deal with humans on a personal level. I'm in love with peace. So, it's actually safe for me to stay away from humans that values hatred, greed, lust, and many other unpleasant actions. It's only a few good beings in the world. If I find my match, it's pure bliss from there, or I can just make myself stay in bliss by staying solo. I am a spiritual being having a physical experience, so humans are not on my go to list. Stay who you are, I love when humans reveal themselves. 😌

I am guessing that most Finns, if they are treated like crap in their jobs or if they can't find a job or their government takes away their rights, they will blame their bosses, the economy, or their government instead of blaming the victim. Will Finns tell a job seeker "You must have picked some girly philosophy major in University" or "You must have been a shitty worker if your boss mistreated you."? Will Finns get fired if they try to unionize? Union Busting is a huge industry in USA. Recently, the US Supreme court struck down President Biden's proposal to forgive some student loan debt. The attitude I saw a lot on social media was that the students need to be punished for their debt. I am not sure Finns make the Just World Fallacy as much as Americans do.

The happiness research that actually records proximates of happiness (such as how often a person laughs per day, or hugs people) usually shows the central American countries to be highest even though half of them are corrupt countries with insane murder rates from cartels. Finland is full of people with robotic monotone voices who say "I am extremely happy right now :|" without a smile.

Quite a rude and inaccurate comment. A happy life is one where all your needs are met and you have low levels of stress, as well as low risk of crime and natural disasters. That is all true of Finland. Finnish people are more often introverted than extroverted, it's so insulting to call them robots, wtf. Not everyone likes physically touching everyone or constantly laughs out loud.

The real reason why Finland beats USA any time is only one: AMORPHIS!!!

Yep, part-time workers get paid holiday if they work more than 14 days or 35 hours. I've been trying to find a part-time job but can't find any. Please help if you have tips!

As an American living here in Finland. I love Finland and am happy here. I am very concerned about this new Government about the quality of life here. I understand cuts have to be made, but they seem to be giving the rich a break just like in the USA.

On paper its happiest country but in real..seems everyone is depressed ..
