7:21 Housing in SF isn't unaffordable because of tech workers. It's unaffordable because of NIMBYism and the city's refusal to permit construction of new apartment buildings (to replace extremely low-density single-family housing) at anywhere near a sufficient rate. Aside from that, good video.

I think that bad public transit to and from the workplace makes the housing so damn unaffordable! The public buses take incredibly indirect routes and the trains don't get people close enough to work, let alone be maintained in good sanitary and general conditions. There is zero wifi on the trains, meaning tech workers choose to use the luxury buses rather than support the system.

It’s a little mix of both. For example, if you’re going to grad school, sometimes your undergrad major doesn’t matter all that much. Better yet, try to convince me that any one of us wage slaves will be irreplaceable when automated technologies and artificially intelligent entities make us obsolete. The best job you can have does not exist, because what is best is being autonomous - remaining free from external influences and instead living according to your own desires, and not those of some banker, government, or corporation.

As a UW student who just got into CS several weeks ago, I can say that this video is quite accurate about the admission rate of CSE at Washington. Also noted that CS department had just changed its policy so that freshman are directly admit to the major instead of going through the competitive process after getting into university. This means if you are not admitted to UW as a CSE major, you simply shouldn't come to UW if you still want to study it. It is somewhat a discouraging policy to many incoming students but nevertheless the last resort to balance the quality of its education (by not admitting too much students) and the pressure from outside blaming that it's ridiculously difficult to get into major (To put it in perspective, you need a 3.8+ GPA to get in whereas the average is around 3.0).

YES. Thank you for sharing the CS professor problem. I’m college searching right now and am very passionate in CS not just because of the money. It angers me that people see the salary and want to do it. The pool for computer science students is massive. My own state university, University of Illinois, takes only 200 kids in their CS program. Their application pool size makes it worse due to their #1 ranking. When I talked with their counselor along with counselors from other schools, they’re all looking for CS professors. And because the salary for a college professor is lower than what you could be making in Silicon Valley, most professors are retired. Schools need more classrooms, infrastructure, and a lot of other things. The lag in the industry hurts the students like me the most.
