Why Exercise is MORE Important Than Diet For A Body Re-Composition 💪

Exercise and diet are both crucial components of a healthy lifestyle, but saying one is inherently more important than the other might not capture the full picture. For most guys it's more important to focus on building exercise habits into your routine first. This will help create the motivation and drive to improve your eating habits over the long run.
If you want to learn how to combine both exercise and diet for losing fat and building lean muscle - check out the Total Fitness Bodybuilding Podcast at:

Exercise offers a myriad of benefits for both physical and mental health. Here's a detailed look at some of the key advantages:
1: Cardiovascular Health: Regular exercise strengthens the heart, improves circulation, and helps lower blood pressure. It can reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular conditions by improving cholesterol levels and reducing plaque buildup in the arteries.
2: Weight Management: Exercise burns calories, helping to maintain a healthy weight or support weight loss when combined with a balanced diet. It also helps to build muscle, which can increase metabolism and contribute to long-term weight management.
3: Muscle and Bone Strength: Weight-bearing exercises, such as lifting weights or bodyweight exercises like squats and lunges, help to build and maintain muscle mass and bone density. This is particularly important for preventing osteoporosis and reducing the risk of fractures as you age.
4: Improved Metabolic Health: Exercise can improve insulin sensitivity, making it easier for your body to regulate blood sugar levels. This is beneficial for preventing and managing type 2 diabetes. Regular physical activity also helps to lower triglyceride levels and increase HDL (good) cholesterol.
5: Mood Enhancement: Exercise stimulates the release of endorphins, neurotransmitters that promote feelings of happiness and well-being. It can also reduce levels of stress hormones like cortisol and increase the production of neurotransmitters like serotonin, which can alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression.
6: Better Sleep: Regular exercise can improve sleep quality and duration, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night. It helps to regulate circadian rhythms and reduce symptoms of insomnia.
7: Increased Energy Levels: Although it may seem counterintuitive, regular exercise actually boosts energy levels by improving circulation, delivering oxygen and nutrients to tissues more efficiently, and enhancing cardiovascular function. It also promotes better sleep, which contributes to feeling more rested and energized during the day.
8: Brain Health and Cognitive Function: Exercise has been shown to enhance cognitive function and reduce the risk of cognitive decline with aging. It promotes the growth of new brain cells and increases levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein that supports brain health.
9: Social Interaction: Many forms of exercise, such as team sports or group fitness classes, provide opportunities for social interaction and connection. This can help combat feelings of loneliness and improve overall well-being.
10: Longevity: Regular exercise is associated with a longer lifespan and a reduced risk of premature death from all causes. It helps to maintain physical function and independence as you age, improving quality of life in later years.
Overall, incorporating regular exercise into your routine can have profound effects on both physical and mental health, leading to a happier, healthier life.

Great clip! I think that if people would view exercise as a privilege that they get to participate in every day, that would be of great benefit. Too many people think of daily exercise as this horrible task because they are influenced too much by all the instagram personalities. They feel they need to partake in the "blood and guts" routines because that's what the internet says they should do. It is a privilege to be able to exercise and one to be thankful for. Not everyone has the ability to exercise daily.

Absolutely, it is a privilege. It's something you get to do - not something you have to do.

Hey Lee interesting perspective and I think you are onto something. I do think the 2 go hand in hand though and some people just struggle with one or the other for some reason. I see so many guys that are at the gym everyday that are there training constantly, but look just so out of shape. Beer bellys and double chins, and you just wonder.... what are they eating? I guess if you just want big muscles that's one thing and to each his own but are they just lifting just for that with no consideration of their diet? I know for me personally, working out has fueled my desire to eat healthier but I think for a lot of people they are literally running around in circles at the gym with no results because their diets are so out of whack. On the other hand, I know so many people who are so convinced that their diet is the only way to stay healthy, and then they NEVER exercise. Or if they do exercise it's just walking the dog or something. Although in my experience I see this more with women, especially older women, then I do with guys. In my personal experience, I lost weight just walking and eating right, and then a few months into it I added lifting, at first for aesthetics cos I looked too skinny lol. Now just realizing how beneficial working out is to my health, and how it helps me maintain my weight loss and has many long-term benefits it just fuels me even more to eat healthy. The more I increase exercise the better I feel so you make some great points. Love the show BTW!

Can't disagree here, but I do have an addition. I've lifted weights on and off for a while. And, in my opinion, for the average person, even if you increase your muscle mass and heighten your metabolism what we're talking about is perhaps you can eat an extra hundred or two calories because of that, not very much. So you have to really stay on that diet or watch what you're eating because the increase in metabolism is not significant. It is there, but one piece of pizza is enough to negate it. So do NOT count on that increased metabolism to save you. It won't, you still have to watch, watch, watch those calories. Now, I must say that I am talking about people over 50. If you're in your 20s your metabolism is pretty much at peak levels. When I was that age and working, exercising, etc., I could almost eat anything and not gain much. So metabolism. Not that important for oldsters. Calories? BINGO!

I totally agree with you. Both exercise and diet are very important. But if someone isn't doing either one - I'd recommend starting with the workouts to get the momentum. And that will help create the motivation and drive to improve their eating habits over the long run.

It's controversial because people don't want to get up and make the effort so they live in this deluded world of eating this or that will have them live health issue free until they are 90😂 The data is pretty clear on this too. Well done.
