Why everyone should take a gap year | Caspar Roth | TEDxYouth@HNLBilthoven

Caspar, member of the Dutch Nuonsolarteam, shows in his talk why it's so important to take a gap year- you can get new unexpected ideas.
Why everyone should teke a gapyear.
When I was at highschool I had it all figured out. I was gonna be a fighter pilot and nothing else, period. But then something that was completely out of my hands forced me to take a different path. A path that brought me in situations I never thought I would be in. Sit back and let me tell you why I think everyone should take a gapyear!
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

My parents are low key pressuring me to go to College after High school, but I don't even know what to do in my life. My parents say that after a year I won't be motivated to school again but I want to discover myself and see what I want to do for the rest of my life. I want to lose weight to make me feel proud of myself and learn more about myself and how to improve my overall Socilization,Attitude towards others

Here is a brief story from a master: A dude went to high school for 4 years and took rigor classes which consist of Bio to Physics and Accelerated Algebra to PreCalc and all the other classes that dude suppose to take and he studied every single day to graduate high school with at least 3.9 to 4.0 then after that he applied for colleges that he likes which some of them he got rejected from saying that others better than that dude So he went to college (never drove in high school all what he did is studying and studying) then he went to college for Pre-Med and studied and studied. Also by the end of his graduation which he graduated by the age of 23. He needs to take an internship at the hospital for at least 6 months after that he actually went to his job which he then worked 12 hours a day until he became 60.

So i took a break or a gap year to just know what to do and to know what I'm good at. And it really depends on why do you wann take a gap year. Is it because you just wanna rest, or you want to be ready financially, or you want to know what to study. Think of a reason. And try to plan for it, maybe you want to take courses or want to practice. Good luck

ngl if you really believe a gap year will benefit your mental health or anything else just do it. your living for yourself, if your parents are going to be mad or frustrated, let em. eventually we all are going to move out and become adults. no matter how mad your parents get it’s your life and they brought u in this world to enjoy it because nothing in this world is promised except death. so why not enjoy it till our time comes?

I’m an Asian kid and gap is never an option for me. When I was in my senior year in college, I was so burnt out that I bought a plane ticket home. Gap really scared me, because my parents kept asking me what’s my plan for the future and all the messages from teachers and classmates. After spent five days at home anxiously, I figured out rushing through college was much better than a gap year or semester for me. LoL

But i believe that if i read enough books and gain knowledge through other available courses online, i can contribute enough in the world. I want to do social work and help people. I am tired of being tied to an institution. My school experience is not so good. And i believe I will learn more and grow more if i go out, do internships and explore. What should I do? Currently thinking of taking a gap year before my masters... It's very unusual in my country for people to take gap years if even they know what it is. It's either u finish school after 3 years and take your bachelor degree and go look for a job or finish your masters right after (which will take 2 years)... I had a plan in my head to continue studying but I guess life doesn't always go as we want it to, that made me realize that I might have to take a gap year and discover myself, learn, and just be a better me... And hopefully after the gap year I will come back stronger and apply to the masters I truly want to study ( another university which is way better) and not continue to study the current course in my faculty.

Actually, no. I dropped out of college because my mental health was declining to the point that it ended up affecting my health in general. I wouldn't have been able to continue studying with all my physical and mental deficiencies. Right now I'm being treated for my health problems and going to a therapist. I plan to go back to college in 3/4 months. Gratefully college in my country it's really cheap, so money-wise, it wasn't that much of a waste. Our economic system condemns unproductivity and wants us to work our asses to death, even though the people working or studying is suffering from mental or physical illnesses. When you're sick and your doctor aside from prescribing you medicine, prescribes you things like resting and exercising. Well, it's the same for people like us. Sometimes people need time off for themselves.
