    BLENDER 2.8 was the SMARTEST MOVE made by the Blender Foundation. Before 2.8, I had little to no interest in using Blender... but they finally decided to LISTEN to the criticism and make the change. Well done indeed.

    Me too! I saw Blender 2.79 and it seemed so ancient and unintuitive. It was so hard to navigate (Partly because I had little to no idea of what I was doing), but 2.8 was beyond incredible to use. It was the version I started with, and their UI overhaul and general improvements to their workflow is what gave me the reason to start in 3D. I love Blender and the community ❤

    Before 2.8 it was a nightmare. Coming from Maya that specialized using smooth mesh preview aka subdiv, blender using ctrl+1 is very smart move though I don't remember how I do it in blender 2.6xx. One aother thing I wish the symmetry is enhanced to Maya level, using coordinate system world, object and point based - dunno if bender already has this if it's exist please lmk.

    In many of your videos on why the industry does not use blender, you say it because blender has no software support. Then today you say one of the main reasons these companies donate to blender is the transparent nature and better software support of open source. Do you personally think open sourse support is worse or better?

  • @MaheerKibria

    @MaheerKibria

    9 ай бұрын

    This guy just is talking out of his ass as usual. The thing is that support is usually done in house. These guys have their own engineers and developers and support staff. Always had. Watch some of the blender con presentations from actual industry people and you will see that support has never been their concern. The things they talk about are lack of certain features or lack of adherence to industry standards that blender has been actually moving towards fixing since they started getting industry funding and then off the record if you actually talk to these guys is legal. The GPL license while nice is not compatible with all other licenses causing them to have to do work arounds or make their own in house integrations. I was talking with some SideFX engineers at a meet and greet and they were like we would love to have a plugin for blender but the GPL license has created legal issues. And these guys use a lot of software. It's never just one.

    @MaheerKibria This makes a lot more sense. I've heard quite a few of my veteran colleagues talk about features in max or maya saying that's been broken or works weird for years and they wrote autodesk and never heard back. Blender is far from perfect but I really wish I could hear genuine practical criticism about it, real comparisons. Most complaints I hear boil down to, "it's weird, I just don't like it and It's not industry standard.", which is fine but not that helpful.

  • @0xfadead

    @0xfadead

    @@MaheerKibriaI don't see how the GPL license could create problems, since it does not disallow proprietary modifications built upon the software when using its API. It does only disallow proprietary modifications of the software itself. This shouldn't be a problem either since the license only requires the people using the software to get the source code, which in the industry would just mean that employees of the company would have (readonly) access to it.

  • @MaheerKibria

    @MaheerKibria

    9 ай бұрын

    @@0xfadead Blender's GPL license means add-ons need their license to be GPL compatible. This means Houdini, Substance, etc do not have add-ons because their licenses would conflict. This means that in a world where you use 10-20 different softwares blender cannot talk to all of them which means moving between softwares is inconvenient. So the question is do you hire more engineers to build and maintain integration or do you just pay for Maya. Most of the time Maya is cheaper.

Most blenders users use daz render only because it's realistic render with iray and denoiser. They set up their scene in blender, then bridge it into daz and turn on iray Nvidia and render their scene. I wish Blender had iray Nvidia built in it with Denoiser. Honestly, I wish all these animation software had iray. The render would be looking like Krispy chicken. Metaphorically speaking. Smooth and crystal clear, no noise. Realistic looking animation. There's another software called onavore . It also has iray built-in it but I have never tried it yet.
