Love seeing all these 14x8 owners n’fans in the comments 🤘🏽😃
Hey Rob, you are absolutely correct, this is Ray, I am a totally blind person that plays drums, and I just ordered my 14 x 8, Yamaha, of course, and I am chomping at the bit to play this thing when it gets here. Thanks for all that you do. Good sir. 4:41
You just made my day! I have three 8" X 14" snare drums. All my drum buddies think I'm crazy. I finally feel vindicated!

I had a maple OCDP (Taiwan) made 13x7 with die cast hoops. Easily one of my most favorite to play. It was never my preferred “look” in drums. I’m a vintage drum guy. But man… that drum with a clear controlled sound dot head…. 🔥 crisp

Love the 13x7” TAMA SLP G MAPLE..
When I special ordered my Gretsch 8x14 the guy at the store looked at me like I was crazy and asked, "Why?" Well, that was 18 years ago and I have never looked back. That drum has gigged and been recorded dozens of times. I love it. I have 7 snares and love them all, but that's my baby. :)

Ooooooooo..............! I had an old Gretsch kit from 1977. Natural walnut finish. With the ''silver-seal'' coating inside. Thos babies were loud and had great tone. I bet that snare ROCKS !
I’ve never really been a fan of low tunings on a snare drum….. until I heard this one! 😍

Tried this drum once, absolutely amazing sound. And I love 14x8 but my fellow train passengers don’t, I used to bump into people all the time with my 14x8 on my back.

I'm a beginner too and have loved Rob's videos. Just so much help getting started when you are trying to work it all out.
I'm not a drummer but you blew my mind when I saw you tuning with two hands. Thank you sir. I might forget where I learned that trick but I'll use it the rest of my life. Nothing like waiting for a drummer to tune their drums. Other than when they can't lay off the kit while you're tuning your guitar. Lol
Rob, you are absolutely right. Iv'e been playing a 14 x 8 for at least 33 yrs now. I bought a 14 x 8 Mapex 8 or 10 ply solid rock maple snare way back on a promotion from a local music store and am damn glad i did. Playing out live iv'e had so many compliments from sound engineers on it makes me know i did the right thing. I love it. Take Care Rob
I fell in love with the 14x8 size of drums when I was in high school. This band came through town and the drummer was rocking this Ayotte kit (back when Ray was still making them) and he had with it a 14x8 snare in maple. It was the first time I'd ever seen/heard one, and it was the best sounding snare I'd ever heard in my life. I knew at that point, I needed one. Fast forward a bunch of years... Vinnie Paul releases a signature snare drum with Pearl, snakeskin wrap, spiked tube lugs, 14x8. It was the first one to hit shelves in Canada, I bought it that day. It's been one of my main drums ever since, even got it signed by Vinnie himself. Love it at all tunings... they are just amazing drums. Congrats on your 14x8! Just gorgeous drum sound and look.
I can vouch for this, picked up a new 14x8 snare over the summer, I love it 😂
I absolutely love that "waaaaaay down" low sound ! 👍
It is so awesome to watch you have fun with that snare! THAT is an WONDERFUL sounding snare drum!
I’ve always been on the fence about 14x8 snare, but you’ve convinced me. Thanks
Brother I enjoy watching your enjoyment. Man, that super low tension was some of the best sounding, full bellied fatness ever! Thanks and Blessings!
That low down sound is awesome! Thanks for the show Rob 😊🥁
I used to have a ddrum 13x7! Loved how boxy it was and when mic’d up for live gigs with a touch of reverb in it, it sounded great! Always got great comments on it! Had it for years but moved it on and went for the standard 14x5.5 and love that too!
Well I went out and bought a virtually new one at a great price on ebay and am knocked out with it! The Black Beauty is going on the shelf for a while. What a great (left field) snare! Cheers Rob.
Sounds as good as it looks! Love the first tuning(medium). Beautiful kit too! Happy Drumming!!!
I’ve wanted a 14x8 snare for years! I love my Sonor kit and I must say your Yamaha kit looks and sounds awesome!
When I first started playing drums, I was playing with the 14x 5 snare drum. I have been enjoying using a piccolo snare. Thanks for the advice.
MY FAVORITE............Yamaha Brass SD498 Snare Drum 14X8.............THE SOUND OF THIS THING IS KILLER....
I have a dw 8x14 steel snare- one of my favorites- so powerful and dynamic
Ive had a chance to play Vinnie Paul's model once and 14x8s will always have a special place in my heart.
You are so good at what you do, please keep doing it. Much Success.
I got a custom SJC 14x8 a number of years ago when I was playing in a rock band. Have now switched over to playing solely weddings and the drum is perfect for that setting also.
I recently bought a DW performance series steel 8x14 snare and everyone compliments the sound of it at my church. I’m very happy with it! 👍🏼
Nobre Rob Brown ! Sensacional esse vídeo ! Saúde, Alegria e Luz para você !
When I was checking out snare drums at the Thomann store in Burgebrach, I also fell in love with this particular snare. The Ludwig Universal 6.5 Mahogany snare also sounded very good.
I own a 14 x 8 Gretsch Swamp Dawg and it is a really versatile snare with a big range. Love it!
The smile on your face is priceless. Of course one of your drumming heroes played 14x8 Tama snares, Phil Gould.
Thanks for covering so many variables, especially without and with the ring muffle!
Thanks Rob. That's a lot of drum you got there! 😊
Rob - hanks for helping me confirm my decision for gig snare tonight. my 14x8 is lovingly called "The Beast".
Absolutely love my C&C 14x8 with 6 lugs and re-rings. Recently put on an Evans Calftone head as well as 16 strand wires (previously 30 like in your video), and it really sings.
Always loved an 8x14. My old Tama 1986-7 Swingstar kit I ordered w/ an 8x14 ..... just a great size drum that's FAR more versatile than people think. You just proved it! 🥁👍😎
As far as affordable drums the big black steel Tama 14x8 looks cool and Ludwig makes a supra light 14X8. I have the 14X6.5 Supra light and really like it so I would imagine the 14X8 would rock.
I still have my Tama Artwood AW548, Bird's Eye Maple, 14x8, which I bought back in 1986. It's a beast, I love it !
Yep!!! I have a Ludwig 14X8” Coliseum, and in my 17 snare drum collection, it’s the KING!!! A studio here in NorCal that I’ve recorded at, has sampled it and it’s on other drummer’s recordings. 😆😳😆🥁🤘🏼
Love the sound, and after looking it up, I love the price, too. I had a parade snare once, and the low-end tuning reminds me of that one. Nice sound
I have two deep snare. One is a 14x8 Gretsch and one is a 14 x 7 1/4" Stave Paduk snare that I made. Both have their place. Love a deep snare!!
NICE SNARE !!! Nice kit ! I played with an old late 60's / early 70's Ludwig (wooden) 10 x 14 concert snare for MANY years. I loved that snare ! I only paid $40.00 at a pawn shop. It was basically in mint condition. It had great sensitivity, tone, depth, and it could cut through the LOUDEST amplification. I put a 48 strand snare on the bottom and that thing BARKED ! Subscribed !
I use a 14x8 Pearl Free Floater aluminum. It is my favourite snare drum and it's always my go to! Beautiful drum!
Yes. Got a 14x8 Antique White Maple A&F and that thing is an absolute BEAST!

WOW 😳 Well, congrats on that one 🔥
I love my 13 x 7 for the same reasons! They have a bit more low-end than a 14 x 8 at high tunings because there’s a bit less tension at higher tunings
@davegarciaofficial
Ай бұрын
Yup. 13 x 7 is actually the perfect size. Not only for tuning, but for placement between the legs. Just a little less stress on the hips.
Great snare Rob, I love birch. Tuned high or low ,you re a bad ass . Thanks Rob!
Hell yeah. I have a 14”x8” custom Bubinga snare drum I had made to specs, it’s by far my favorite snare and none of my other 3 snares is even close to claiming the title of “main cannon”. 14”x8” for life! 🤘🏻
The snare sounds incredible, I’m buying one!
I love your smile when you first hear that sweet sound. Thanks for another great video. I recently dug out my old Premier B303 8X14 snare drum I made from a tom back in the 80s. Mahogany and beech. I am getting to know it again. I took it to a Jazz gig last night tuned low with loose wires. I found that sounds really great from the audience but not so good from playing it. p.s. Rings are where it is.
I’ve got a 14x8 Tama SLP Black Steel and it’s a monster. I just love it. The look of joy on your face as you jumped into each tuning just made me wanna jump on the kit so bad and groove man.

Hey, i wanna buy this one but what is it like, can you explain it?
Completely agree and love these versatile deeper snares. Have 13 by 8 pdp concept and love it. And changing the snares to a 30 pure sound makes all the difference too with an Evans’s HD dry. Amazing sound .
Man, this was eye-opening, Rob! I love that “basement” sound✊🏾
My last snare drum was a black beauty, I swore only by the 14 x 5 or 14 x 5 1/2, but thanks to you I just discovered the power and true versatility of this snare drum! The fat sound for rock, blues or rhythm’n’blues, up to the sound of a piccolo for funk, latin, etc... It’s really the snare drum I need. Thank you for your videos, very helpful
Love me an 8 X 14 - but for some reason never bought one. This sounds great, phenomenal and the dude playing sounds real good too.!!! Thank you for sharing.
I recently bought a new to me (very lightly used 2021) RC kit in piano black. The snare is a 8"X14". I couldn't imagine I'd ever need a snare that size. WOW!!!! I totally agree with you, this drum is far more versatile than I ever imagined. The first time I played it at a rehearsal I was blown away. I own several (too many?) snares but I can see how this one is going to get a lot of use. It's a monster, I love it. Thanks for the video.
its great watching your excitement 😅
I just bought a 14x7 tama starphonic walnut shell man what a snare it does a lot of tunings very well.
Great video as always Rob
I have a noble and cooley 13x7 ss maple snare I absolutely love. I was worried it might be too deep but its perfect.
Tuned up and no ring - Mitch Mitchell esch ! Nice put a smile on my face too..
Right on Rob👍💯. Your reaction to every tuning range is the sound of satisfaction. That tuning range is surprisingly wide. I'll have to look into a snare drum upgrade.
Love it, Rob !!
Beautiful introduction. Drummers therapy.
You are right Rob, totally versatile! Wish I had the dough, one day maybe. Still love your A&F raw brass snare too.
7x14 cherry bubinga on my kit. I love your facial expression on that high tension. Sounded amazing 👏 Keep the great videos coming
Got my 14x8 Ludwig supralite on its way today 🎉 can’t wait to mess with it!
I own that exact drum also with the real wood finish! I love it! It matches my real wood finish recording customs I bought at the same time. 12/14/16/18 That 18 bass drum sounds like a 20 or 22. Amazing
I built a 14 X 8 cherrywood stave snare a few years back....I found it to be a bit much in the low-end so I cut it back to a 7"...now, it's perfect...the badge on it says "Big Thump"!
Congrats on your acquisition, Rob. You were getting into Joey Kramer big snare tones toward the end of the demo. Sounds great!
I love my 8" deep Sonor Signature cast bronce snare. Fits also well with my Tama Club jam kit - allthough the snare weighs more than the other kit parts together, incl. cymbals 😁
I just finally to pull the trigger on a 6.5x14 Ludwig Black Beauty. I am in love with it. 8x14 on my list

I have a Tama SLP big black steel snare which i love. I put a die cast hoop on the batter side, Copeland style 😊, and i think it's fantastic.
Agreed! I picked up a Pork Pie 14 x 8 a bit ago. Love it.
I have the Tama SC walnut birch 14x8. Yes, #1 snare of versatility. I use many different heads as well...🤟
Enjoyed the video, I have 2 8x14 snares. One maple, one steel. I love the tuning range on both. Keep up the good work on thw channel 👍
I absolutely cherish my Made in Japan Birch Custom Absolute 14x7 snare drum by Yamaha. Amazing versatility and sound, and to this day the best snare drum I ever heard or owned.

Wow! Gotta a say, Im impressed! I was always in this fales believe for a good depth snare drum I should go for metal... That video prove that wrong... 👌🏻
I picked up a Ludwig Black Magic 14 x 8 chrome over brass .. it was 300$ and the thing is beautiful .. almost sounds like a Black Beauty I love it
Probably a new snare drum? DEFINITELY a new snare drum. Great stuff. That snare and those cymbals sound fantastic.

Rob's sticks start off as 747B Super Rocks and end up as 5As. Thank you for showing real time tuning. Very valuable!
As usual, loving the vids you post, welcome to the 8x14 club my friend 😊 I’ve got two Tama 8x14’s, a vintage birch shell, and a newer maple shell, love’’em both! If looking for that little extra umph, try out 10x14, I have the DW maple version in my collection. I’ve used it on a few of my vids, the past couple months, killer depth.
I have 2 14x8 Ludwigs that I got to fit the CCM sound, and fell in love with them when I realized how versatile they are. Never going smaller with my main snare again 🤜🏻🤛🏻

That's a great snare, I bought mine a couple of months ago and it's really versatile, as you demoed on this video. I just changed the top hoop to Gibraltar hoop, because these Yamaha hoops eat sticks really fast.
Very good info! Looks like I’m going to get one.👍🏾

Beautiful sounding drum. You can never go wrong with a Recording Custom. I don't have exactly a 14 x 8, but I'll have to settle with a vintage 70's Premier 2000 chrome over aluminum 14 x 6.5 I just finished restoring.
