Why English Pronunciation is Different Compared to Other Languages | Accurate English
Learn some pronunciation rules of English compared to the rules of other languages. We focus on stress and reduction of vowels and we compare how French and Spanish work. Many other languages work the same way, but English is different. In English the reduced syllables are unstressed and the schwa sound is pronounced. So, spelling is less important. Watch my student, Camilo, who is multilingual. He will demonstrate how this works.

Looking forward to watching your next video.
It is very helpful. Thank you for teaching.
In Indian languages we pronounce everything that we write.That means, all the letters make their individual sounds.But in English even a group of letters sometimes produce one single sound.This is why English is different from most other languages
Thanks mam it helped a lot keep uploading helpful videos like this one
Thanks ma'am.... Very useful

As a native English speaker I have no idea how people learn our writing system. I learned Spanish (still learning, but I can actually use it pretty naturally now) and that's easy. Sounds are straight and to the point with very few exceptions. It's said as it reads. The only way I learned to read and write in English is because I spoke the language before, so when I saw a new word I could be like, "oh, that's 'image'".

I'm learning English as a second language, my native one is Portuguese. In fact english spelling can be tricky. In addition, linguistics say that English is not a Phonetic language, meaning that letters or combination of letters aren't always pronounced the same way in every single word and we can't look at a written word and know right away how it's pronounced based on its spelling. The sounds of the English language don't match up one to one with the letters of the alphabet. There's more sounds and there's no enough letters. Take for exemple the letters OUGH: In the word THROUGH they are pronounced with the same vowel sound as in the word BLUE or FLU, in words like THOUGHT, BOUGHT, BROUGHT, FOUGHT, SOUGHT , OUGHT they are pronounced with the same vowel sound as the in the word LAW or JAW In the the words THOUGH, DOUGH, THOROUGH, FURLOUGH they are pronounced with the same vowel sound as in the word NO or SHOW, in the words DROUGHT and THROUGHOUT they are pronounced with the same vowel sound as in the word DOUBT or ABOUT, in the words TOUGH , ROUGH and ENOUGH they are pronounced with the same ending sounds as in the word PUFF, in the words TROUGH and COUGH they are pronounced with the same ending sounds as in the word OFF and Finally the word BOUGH that it's pronounced with the same vowel sound as in the word HOW. You see? the same letters, different pronounciations. Another interesting thing that happens in English is that the same sound can be represented by different letters or combination of letters. For example the /sh/ sound : SHake, CHicago, oCean, Sugar , iSSue , opTion... NOW here we have the same sound represented by different letters. English spelling and pronunciation are really unpredictible and that's why English learners like me can't make assumptions about how a certain word is pronounced . I suppose even English native speakers go through the same problem sometimes, right?
Thanks dear
read carefully for me you are the very best so far thank you
I'm from Georgia( country) and these problems don't exist in my language.We pronunce what we write exsactly.I speak German,Italian,Russian English and a little bit Spanish.I want to bring up my English on advansed level.Thank you

Do you have a video lesson on how to pronounce the 'th sound' after we say 'is' for example 'is there anything wrong with it' 'is there'... I find it very difficult to make questions when the 's' is before the 'th'. Great lesson btw
Thank you for this very useful video! Does Camilo have a KZread channel?
Thanks so much i did not even pronounce my name correctly as you do
I like, no - - no, rather love you very much for your maneuver of English teaching.
I'm fortunate that I'm fluent in multiple languages (7 at this time). English pronunciation is a major obstacle faced by my Vietnamese students. When I day dream I dream of a refurbished English lettering system that resembles German or Vietnamese where everything is 100% clear and logical as far as pronunciation is concerned. I'd say the same regarding my own native Danish. Having the sounds embedded in the writing system is invaluable to my Vietnamese and Mandarin (pinyin) learning. Imagine KNOWING how to pronounce any English word, even without knowing it's meaning?

Chinthu Raj my French is rather limited. I learned more Vietnamese in one year than I learned French during 4 years of high school. It's just so much easier. The languages stemming from proto indo European are hopelessly burdened with impossible grammar.

Then it would look really ugly. I like the way English is written because you can know a lot about a word and its origin just by looking at it. And what happens when words change pronunciation? Do we write it the way the British pronounce it, or the American way? At least now, it stays neutral.
@NMalteC

@@shaungordon9737 other languages have no problems as people who speak dialect generally follow the same rules. Chinese Pinyin is also an excellent way of addressing the issue in a simple yet elegant way.

But I hear a difference berween lesson & lessen pronunciations. In "Lessen" the 'S' is stressed more, in other words the second 'S' is also pronounced (hope that makes sense) unlike in 'Lesson'. I feel there is a diff in "Adam" & "Atom" too but really subtle. The 'A' is stressed more in "Atom". Does anyone agree?
THANK YOU SO MUCH MA'AM' FOR INHANCING OUR KNOWLEDGE'

In english is possible eliminate the T, D or Th sound after a N sound. International e.g. can sound like inernacional, in the, inne and so on.
@shaungordon9737

It's the American accent. British pronounce it
Sorry, but there's an orthographic error, in Spanish the correct spelling is "IMAGEN" , and in Spain "c" and "s" sound different too (except in some places of Andalucía and Canarias).
I asked him to use the elevator. My sister likes a modern symphony. The image is not clear on the television.🌹l usually add lettuce and tomato to the salad.
I m from Bangladesh.
everytime we make a lot of mistakes we need to correct all of them
You beauty, my teacher...!?!
Yeah, my main language is bahasa, it's easier for me to speak Japanese words instead English. Because "a" sounds like you read "a" in "arm", "i" sounds like "i" in "image", "u" sounds like "u" in "ultra", "e" sounds like "e" in "met", "o" sounds like "o" in "stop".
I never say theee I always say thuhh Even with thu elevator
🧸
Why am I watching this I'm American 😃
Madam, Please don't compare the pronunciations of other languages. we have to say how to pronounce English and that's the end of it. The other way is dangerous.
This isn't English, it's American English.
