One big reason why I think DVDs and Blue Rays are still worth buying is because typically streaming services will remove certain movies and shows from their platform, but with disc it’s your to keep forever, it’s not like it’s going to be taken away, you bought it and you can have it for as long as you want

I personally love physical media because that's what I grew up with. If media is on digital or streaming that's great, but all it takes is one cancelled subscription due to price hikes or it dying out altogether, and now you have to find a new way to watch. You never truly own a movie until you own it

Yes, just look at the dc universe steaming service that was canned & then turned into hbo max & then was canned & is currently just Max now until Warner goes through another shift yet again. I can’t keep up with this nonsense. Disney + I just don’t find it to be worth it. So I only have Netflix, Amazon prime, Hulu & dvds. I love the way that I do things & wouldn’t change anything

I found a blu ray movie for just 99p brand new it has John Malkovich and Adrian Brody in it its about three criminals who go to an abandoned warehouse after a robbery (I think) and their is a Rottweiler in there hunting them down it was fantastic. I described it badly but the dog was savage and an ex fighting dog I think and it was very suspenseful

Also, Streaming Services can take away the shows and movies off their services, so having them on Physical Media is important for preservation and just watching it. Also it feels nice to hold it in your hands knowing you own it, and you display on your shelf all your interests too. Also also some shows and movies may have weird copyright issues or may be very unknown and so some of them may not be on streaming services or digital. Also also also, it just brings me such nostalgia with the unique menus and bonus content.

You don't have to wait long these days from cinema to DVD. I remember back in the 80's sometimes you had to wait a couple of years from cinema to VHS. Now its a matter of months or weeks it seems

Good deal bc nowadays 1 blue ray of any movie is usually 20 or more if its brand new.

It feels good to hold a movie in your hand and they looks good on the shelves. You don't need wifi to watch them, so if your wifi is bad, you can watch the movie without freezing. And they also contain some extras ( deleted/alternative scenes, some documentary of making the film, etc. ).

Physical entertainment will always be worth buying. It's nice to have your favorite entertainment in physical form. DVD can also have cool artwork covers, it lasts a long time if stored, and you don't need Internet to play DVD. A lot of things aren't even available on streaming apps.

I still support Blu Rays because I hate streaming services, yes it’s cheap and u pay every month but Blu Ray you can keep until your death and streaming services sometimes will remove movies based of the country your in!

I always buy horror movie dvds because they only come on in october and i like watching them all year same with Christmas movies

DVDs are awesome collectibles, even though I’m mainly a video game collector. When I collect movies I usually just go for the 4K copies. I’ll only need one version of the film, and I’d just rather the highest quality physical release. But I never count DVDs out, since we wouldn’t be where we are now without them.

I buy blu ray movies because I'm not about to keep paying expensive money on streaming services just to keep watching blu rays or dvd you can watch whenever you want

Fully agree, for the last few months I've been getting my favourite movies and ones which look great on blu ray. I'm also fed up of looking through netflix and prime etc and finding something I want to watch to then find you have to buy or rent them and even some movies coming with adverts now 😂 ive just bough ad astra, glass and fury for about £12 on blu ray which is good value

The thing about DVDs is the sometimes the audio maybe better than the audio from the BLU RAY version. Weird though...but true!

The freedom to watch your favourites whenever you wish, nay, want to. Audio and video quality always highest on physical media. And hours of bonus content. The day they stop physical media, mankind has declared itself officially stupid!

They do have a lot of bonus content that I don't always see

I would absolutely say a DVD collection is viable in this day and age, because let's be honest, streaming services aren't that great, and it's nice to just have a copy of a movie I want to see right away, instead of having to click past "watchable TV"

I miss the days going into shops and always buying loads of dvd... Hate the fact that everything is online now

Also, no wifi / cellular service required! You could even enjoy DVD’s off grid (if you have solar)!

Dvd are worth buying anytime if you get good discount

Buy them while you can because disney and netflix have already started to stop physical media and removing them from streaming only allowing rentals

Netflix is not stopping physical media. A lot of their movies have been coming out on physical. I just bought their remake of All Quiet On The Western Front on Blu-ray the other day. The only one I think that isn't out yet is Extraction.

@@johnarmstrong5809 That is demonstrably false. Paramount's shows have been coming out physically. Netflix has released quite a few of theirs (most through Criterion). Disney is really the only major that hasn't released their streaming shows physically and honestly most of theirs aren't worth buying imo anyway apart from Clone Wars S7 or the first two seasons of Mando. Rebels was released physically.

Streaming platforms keep increasing prices. Meanwhile, between KZread and my large blu ray / DVD library (I use a PS3 to play them) I seldom use streaming services anymore. I have no monthly payments but you know what I do have? Tons of Anime. Life is good for me.

What country is this? In Canada, the stores stopped selling Blu-rays a few years ago. Although we do have some bargain bins at pharmacies or discount stores with various titles for $3.99 or whatever.

I agree. I've stuck with FHD Blurays just because of the extra content. I find that sort of stuff interesting 🤓. Plus I own it and are not beholden to the streaming companies having the same tastes as me.

DVD and Blu-ray needs its revival like Vinyl and CD. Because there are many movies that never were available in Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, like The Man Who Saw Tomorrow starring Orson Wells and Pink Floyd The Wall directed by Alan Parker.

I'd never tried a blue-ray before, then I moved to a new city and noticed this video game store sellin them for like a couple quid each. Decided to pick up the 3 Hobbit movies for just 5 pounds. Not a bad deal.

Here's another thing: streaming audio is compressed while discs are uncompressed

Me and my family don't have streaming so we buy dvds

Make sure to find the correct software and hardware to rip the dvd or blu rays to your hard drive. Dvds scratch like crazy even if your are extremely careful with them. They just love to scratch themselves. Maybe they have an itch condition idk. Either way keep your movies forever and have backups.

I mean if u use movies anywhere I don't matter. But I will say for older movies that weren't released on 4k like the Spider-Man Trillogy and Terminater 2. It's best to get it on blu-ray

Also can play when internet doesn't work just need power

Dvds are worth it because of all the people jumping to bluray selling their whole collections for pennies. That's fine. I'll keep buying em up. Upscaling tech is advancing rapidly. Soon old school dvds will upscale to 4k no problem. May even look better due to raw data interpretation being easier.

Get the Blu-ray (not the 4K). DVDs are pretty much obsolete unless you watch them on a HTPC. 4Ks have a lot of quality control problems and aren't worth the money. Streaming is a good value if you don't own anything on disc or don't have the space.
