@neofulcrum5013 The, theoretical, point of the CIS was that they were fighting to create a decentralized system, which is why they are a confederacy. Not sure if this works for Palpatine or not.

@@KingFlameHawk It would have if he'd wanted it to- the Separatist Council and corporate states worked very well to create a totalitarian hyper-capitalist, slave-trading society that by any measure was even worse than the Republic. By the point the clone army was ordered, the Sith had decided on usurping the Republic by appearing to save it, rather than crushing it with the emerging Separatist movement which they also controlled, so a lot of battles were thrown by the Confederate leadership, knowingly or unknowingly. I'd be interested in seeing some videos about cases where the CIS came closest to winning despite Palpatine's maneuvers, and how he could have adjusted accordingly. By the second year of the war it's pretty unlikely with the secret reserve force being underway in legends/predisney, but there were definitely cases where a confederate victory was likely and required direct sith intervention. Most notably, Geonosis, as Geetsly has discussed, and also sending Merai to his death at first Kamino in the pre-disney canon. The confederacy definitely had the resources to brute force a victory in the first months of the war, and required careful managing to not achieve it. Hell, the confederate forces on Geonosis could have seized an unguarded Coruscant on day 1 if the sith hadn't manipulated the Republic into accepting a slave clone army out of desperation AND laid a trail to Geonosis.

The CIS theoretically planed to win, that was their goal, to win the war. But you are right, Palpatine and Dooku manipulated them. Dooku as head of state for the CIS carefully orchestrated the war so the CIS would slowly be defeated and Palpatine win the Republic public + many Jedi got killed in the war. If Dooku and Palpaine hadn't sabotage the CIS they would have surely won the Clone Wars, no matter if a clone is worth 10 battle droids and a Jedi 100 droids.

Yeah. When a tactical droid commands a smaller group, they do it a lot better, though many were reckless and were willing to sacrifice droids, civilians or positions to win - which the Republic could sometimes use against them. This is a much smaller group, but large enough to function as a proper small army, and I also think they weren't factory reset, not fully, but retained enough information from their battles or that of other droids, letting them use that experience in order to do their jobs better. So a more moderately sized amount to control, experience, some much-needed upgrades, and a good focus on the area and surroundings. Tactical droids are only good for MASSIVE amounts of droids when just relaying more simple information. Direct command is much more difficult, same for real life war or combat. A few top commanders for a large front, local commanders that are at the front itself, spread out evenly among the troops. Had the droids been a lot more numerous, then they'd have probably required another tactical droid to help, or more OOM-series Command Droids, as they were also programmed for commanding troops in the middle of a fight, as is seen early in the episode when this specific droid uses the binoculars very effectively.

I've always felt like the CIS were pretty sympathetic, at least their citizens. Most of their leaders were pretty evil, but that wasn't the people's fault, and the CIS had some very legitimate complaints about how the Republic functioned. If they had different leadership and weren't secretly formed as just another part of Palpatine's evil master plan, they could have actually had the moral high ground. Also, imagine if the droids in season 2 episode 3 had even a single Magnaguard with them. I think things might have gone differently.

Making the B1s into a gaggle of morons is pretty much required for the CIS to believably not just steam roll the GAR. Honestly Episode 4 wasn't bad, just not something high energy. It's a little hard to make something higher energy/more important than the bombshell of Cody going AWOL after an action packed episode, and it's nice to see that Cid probably hasn't tied herself too much to the Bad Batch.

For example with Dooku falling to the dark side, but not becoming a sith, and founding the CIS on his own accord. He doesn't know of the clone army being trained, Sifo-Dyas isn't assassinated, etc.

Yeah, you have to remember a lot about the Clone Wars was specifically engineered by the Sith. Without them, it’s more likely multiple separatist movements would pop up instead of a unified one. Also without the threat of the Sith, Sifo-Dyas would never have made the order for the clones. Without the Sith, it would be more like a series of proxy wars where separatist groups fight security forces belonging to Republic worlds, with the Jedi and Judicial Forces only bring calked for extreme cases. The Republic would also take years to build up a military and that itself may not happen. The Senate was divided until the droid army was revealed along with the clone army. Otherwise the Military Creation Act could have gone either way.

I also really liked the fluidity and slight expectation subversion they used in this episode, especially when it comes to the movements and reactions of clones to their environment, seeing them at first scramble away from and then begin to return fire with the Droideka that ambushes them on the stairs. It's not often we get to see those kinds of more intimate/realistic and physical reactions from the clones and it made me instantly think of other war movies where you see characters hugging cover and ducking up and down to return fire during a firefight.

It might also be of note that there aren't all that many droids on Desix. At most, there was a single battalion of B1s, a couple Droidekas and a handful of BXs. That alone would take a lot of pressure (or processing power) off the Tactical Droid compared to the large-scale conflicts in the Clone Wars. Instead of trying to organize several armies' worth of B1s, B2s, BXs and others; the Tactical Droid would be able to tightly coordinate a small group to fight tactically and effectively as well as cover any weaknesses that their diminished ranks would cause.

I just wished there was a series dedicated to a Sepratist Rebellion or hell even a Rebel Cell that some Separatists joined so that we could see the full extent of their abilities. There was a fanfic I read a while back where droids made use of their independent brain functions after being salvaged after the battle of Naboo, and the OOM Unit was immiedietly much scarier having experienced fighting against an actual army as well as attempting to defend it's plan from jedi. It somewhat followed General Grievous's intended strategy of ruining the concentration of Jedi through fear, trickery, and overwhelming force all at once, as well as taking advantage of the Jedi's kindness, which is amazing in my opinion. The amount of tactical planning you could do with an army all fundamentally connected to each other SHOULD have been Code Geass levels with Lelouch planning, luring enemies into minefields, cones of overlapping fire, shooting through walls, etc

Cody was fighting droids from the beginning of the Clone Wars, and Clone Force 99, which Crosshair once was a part of, was an elite unit which has presumably been through awful lot of suicidal missions and got a lot of experience as well. And even then, Cody and Crosshair had one hell of a hard time approaching the target and had to save each other. So I'd say if not those two working together, even plot armor wouldn't help the clones.

TBF, I think this is a demonstration of the sheer military capability of both sides when the proverbial 'leash' has been taken off. The Droids are scarily competent, successfully utilize terrain and their numbers to leverage the conflict in their favour, while the Clones show that experience and individual skill, alongside skilled teamwork, allowed them to fight through the incredibly difficult open and urban terrain where most armies in Star Wars would have massively struggled.

The tactical droid does instruct them with protocols, but the droids have also very likely recieved much needed updates - data that doesn't make their information collide as much as before. Add to that, I will guess they have experience or downloaded data so they know what NOT to do. The tactical droid also being a lot more aware and able to command properly instead of sacrificing entire armies like some of them did, is also a massive boost to performance and coordination. And as a commenter point out, the droids are basically veterans. They're experienced, they know what they need to do in order to achieve the best possible results. I can easily see a spin-off series of CIS remnants having rebuilt some forces and start committing to raiding whatever ships tehy can find, even Imperial ones, and before anyone can stop them, they've won the battle with minimal losses, their massively improved co-ordination and able to fight having won the day, they take what they need, then vanish. Or thsi can be full canon, but it ends at a cliffhanger. Say, the Empire manage to follow or search and find where the CIS remnant fleet and droids are taking everything they've stolen from ships across the galaxy, but as they arrive, the entire base is already being evacuated, and much as been, as they see ships go up into the atmosphere, away from the Imperial Fleet, which is on the opposite side of the planet, and even though the Empire win, a lot of the droids and CIS ships, and people, escape, and there's no way to track them reliably. In any case, I hope we get to see more droids in use, possibly on a world owned by the Empire, but in a state that allows the use of old CIS hardware to deal with ongoing problems - and maybe something like organics can't fight well in that place, like it's toxic or something, making the droid army remnants ideal to handle it all. Whatever lets us see more droids, and hopefully, something where they win due to actual skill and coordination.
