Swapn Lok I agree with what you are saying, but wouldn’t in that situation eating a cow be an even greater symbol of wealth, because in spite of how expensive and useful a cow is you would be rich enough to slaughter and “waste” one for food

I am 33 .. Till about 31 I was eating beef on and off.. part of the reason being my mom who is from Kerala and they eat this animal and also because I lived in the EU for 4 years. now it's been more than 2 years I had any meat (99% of my meat was beef) and let me tell you honestly my conciousness is on another level. I am lighter, happier, and look much younger... My life is much easier than before and through Maa Lakshmis grace my finances are abundant and so on. I'm vegetarian but not vegan . I consume ghee in copious amounts and again it's God's grace I can tolerate it very well. Jai Shree Ram.

Some problems in the video: 1. Caste is a generic term. Hindus have 4 Varnas and each Varna has multiple jaati(caste). Number of Caste is not 4. Varna is not endogamous and it's flexible. Jaatis are endogamous and inflexible. 2. Three types of foods are (as you rightly said) Tamasic, Rajasic and Sattavic. What is incorrect is that you said lower castes eat Tamasic (heavy food) which is of poor quality. But the correct thing is as you said some castes are involved in heavy physical labor and hence they eat Tamasic (heavy food). Brahmins eat Sattvic (light food) because they were not allowed to do a paid profession (only work was teaching and learning) hence they had to beg and eat and also heavy food will disturb intellectual process(their primary job). 3. Cows are worshipped in India(besides them being dearer to Krishna). This practice began because in earlier times of agriculture based society when drought and rain destroys your yield, your survival depends on revenue you get from cows. Cows become essential part of family (like present day dogs) and Hindus consider it inappropriate to eat one of your family members whose milk (Hindus relate it to mothers' milk) has nourished you. In short, there's a strong economical reason which has made beef eating a taboo Thank you for making the video

Caste system was never form of Hinduism. Hinduism had Varna system which nothing but gave an identity to people who worked on their occupation. It was always horizontal, people moved from one occupation to other with ease. Learn more about that. Caste is a word from Spanish and it was brought in by multiple corrupt people who misused the freedom that lies in Hinduism.

Actually, no. Caste system was a name given to the varna system by europeans. In the early vedic people the varna system was still flexible and people could intermingle and change occupation. But after about 300 ad it became rigid and the upper castes discriminated against the lower castes.

Nobody really calls fish the fruit of the sea. The story behind Saraswat Brahmins eating fish and mutton is that when the Saraswati river dried up, there was famine and nobody was able to grow crops on the land anymore because there was no water. So, when they traveled, they settled on banks of rivers and near the seas and "apparently" goddess Saraswati appeared one night not being able to see her disciplines hungry anymore offered life from the sea and sacrificed gost meat to make do. That is why GSB vegetarian and non-vegetarian food have mostly the same method of preparation. Ofcourse people did things that suited them and mythology was added to validate their actions. So, yeah. Nobody calls seafood fruit if the ocean. 😀👍

That's a very nice video. Being a Brahmin and coming from an Orthodox vegetarian family where my mother refuses to even touch onion and garlic, I would like to explain my view why people in North India remain averse to eating meat in general. I will try to explain this from an economic pov first in Urban cities where the dietary inhibitions are less and people earn considerably better: As the population density in North India remains very high, so still the dietary requirements of an average man are mostly fulfilled by lentils, a vegetable dish, chapatis made of wheat and rice. The average cost of such a home made meal comes at around 3$ for a family of 5. Even for the non-vegetarians, a non vegetarian meal is reserved for special occasions and if the family is well to do, twice a week is the most they will consume chicken/lamb which costs around 7.5$/12$ for a family of 5. Now, this is a very high cost for India where a well to do family on average earns 1000-1500$ per month. So, eating beef (even Buffalo) is considerably costlier and is mostly only for those rebels who wish to prove themselves. What we need to understand is even these days, you visit a village or a rural area, you would see that owning a cow is seen as a symbol of wealth and improves your status in other's eyes. A cow is very helpful and each of its products have been ingrained in a rural household. Its milk, which is thinner than a Buffalo's is suitable for children. Evening tea is an important time for all of the family to sit together, where a family still consists of 8-10 members. The cowdung was and is used as a source for fuel for cooking food in hearths made of clay. The cowdung was/is also used as a coating material mixed with other items in mudhouses which acted as a disinfectant to keep the house free from flies and other insects which are a huge nuisance in a tropical country. Also, cow milk is consider sacred and used in several traditional rituals. At dinner, the first morsel of food is reserved for cows in Brahmin families and is given a full feast on the eve of festivals and functions in the family. Indians never had domesticated cats and dogs on a large scale. Instead in earlier times and now, a cow was both their source of livelihood and pet animal. So, this mixture of reverance as a religious symbol and the love for their pet animal prohibits a normal Indian in whom religion has been indoctrinated from childhood through mythological stories and several stories from the Mahabharata and the Ramayana (two major religious texts containing two of the most revered Gods) which revolve around cows, prohibits them morally from let alone killing, even hurting a cow.

Interesting that You explain the more complex reality among hindus/ in India. Many havesim plified pictures/ generalized. Hinduism is really an umbrella-concept, a word for a alrge group of similar religions - mostly in India. For my part I´m a christian vegan and pro life-man. I don´t eat neither land- nor water animals, but for somewhat different reasons than I guess vegetarian hindus sometimes have. It´s partly because of my thoughts on harmony and original intents of creation. Many hindus expect "all" of us christians to be meat-eaters. But in later years a movement of christian v egetarians/ vegans has come into existence. Leading figures there have been for example the English priest Andrew Linzey and the American pstor Frank Hoffman.

Although cows are sacred, I dont understand how some Indian markets such as Patel Brothers and Apna Bazaar sell beef products where they also sell items for puja. At some point people who stock those shelves with beef could also be touching the puja samagri items. This could also be possible too when the cahsiers ring up customers who purchase beef items, so it makes you wonder if these markets have any regards to Hindu sentiments.

Caste system is nothing to do with Hinduism or Sanathana dharma. It’s purely man made to take advantage of less privileged. Like what ruling whites have done with blacks and other over centuries. As per vedas and Sanathana dharma anyone can be a Brahmin, that’s the character. Over the time they made it look like a cast to have more privileges. Men always miss use rules. Coming to cows there is lot of cultural context. Like west love their dogs which probably their great companion in hunting and living cold weather, constantly worried about attacks from enemies or animals. Like theirs love towards horses . Just like that Hindu culture has great respect towards cows. It’s because of which civilization doesn’t have to depend on hunting or constant move. Cows waste is most green and organic way of farming for centuries. Till today we have no other organic way. We depend on milk on a daily basis. So they are part of culture and respect. What other way you can teach uneducated villagers about 5 to 10 thousand years back the importance of cows for their well-being. One way to make them as great companions of god and goddesses. Cow represent wealth and health. What Sanathana dharma says is don’t kill anyone or anything unless for right cause. So it’s up to you what you want to respect. What vedas says is there are 7 mothers for any human-being. Cow is one of them for right reason read about it.

Once my American boss questioned me infront of everyone in a restaurant you drink cow milk but not meat, what’s the point? I told him because I drink it’s milk that’s way I don’t eat it. It made no sense for him. I read many places where Hindus treat cow and mother, people commented who is father. It’s so hard to covey thousands of years cultural context in simple words with word limit. Especially when the other side already made up their mind. Vedas says there are 7 mothers if you closely pay attention and cow is one of them for right reasons. Earth is another one. You know what happens when you abuse it, your kind will suffer and will be lost painfully at the end.

Most of the world religions sanctify the offering of animals in sacrifice including Hinduism. Hindu scriptures are witnesses to such sacrifices and killings of animals for consumption. References of such commands are replete in Hindu scriptures like Manusmriti, Vedas, Upanishads, Brahmins, Grihsutras, Dharmasutras and others. This column would not suffice for quoting all such references but a few from different scriptures are imperative to bring home the point and clear the misconceptions: Manusmriti (Chapter 5 / Verse 30) says, “It is not sinful to eat the meat of eatable animals, for Brahma has created both the eaters and the eatables.” Manusmriti (5 / 35) states: When a man who is properly engaged in a ritual does not eat meat, after his death he will become a sacrificial animal during twenty-one rebirths. Maharishi Yagyavalkya says in Shatpath Brahmin (3/1/2/21) that, “I eat beef because it is very soft and delicious.” Apastamb Grihsutram (1/3/10) says, “The cow should be slaughtered on the arrival of a guest, on the occasion of ‘Shraddha’ of ancestors and on the occasion of a marriage.” Rigveda (10/85/13) declares, “On the occasion of a girl’s marriage oxen and cows are slaughtered.” Rigveda (6/17/1) states that “Indra used to eat the meat of cow, calf, horse and buffalo.” Vashistha Dharmasutra (11/34) writes, “If a Brahmin refuses to eat the meat offered to him on the occasion of ‘Shraddha’ or worship, he goes to hell.” Also, comments of some great scholars of Hinduism are also worth noting: · Hinduism’s greatest propagator Swami Vivekanand said thus: “You will be surprised to know that according to ancient Hindu rites and rituals, a man cannot be a good Hindu who does not eat beef”. (The Complete Works of Swami Vivekanand, vol.3, p. 536).

According to their silent doctrines that are not imposed but followed by what family one is born into in a caste that was or is ones choice according to the previous past actions speech and even thoughts that determine ones incarnation in the future of either suffering or enjoying the results of the past choices one has made in previous incarnations which was not mentioned as part of this systems philosophy and a major role in it is knowledge of reincarnation. Sinchit is the term for past lives karmas which are being paid off not enjoying a higher status and suffering a lower status. Even thei Gods are considered not to be above reincarnation as for a length of time the God Brahma enjoyed his incarnation then was reincarnated as an ant and started transmigation over again to learn pride cometh before a fall. As one sows one reaps. The problem is when there is widespread poverty in the kali yuga the age of quarrels and degredation of intelligence and the caste system woked better in the Satyuga and Treta yugs golden age and silver age aeons ago. There isnt much sowing taking place right now other than people being dacoits ( criminals) or war mongers therefore not much to reap , when one does reap what was sown in the past one will KNOW IT.

There is no one book of Hinduism that dictates law. In general, eating a cow didn't make sense in India as it's milk and by products, dung are extremely useful. Slaughtering a large animal is also tedious. So there was no culture of killing a cow and there are stories of goddess with some relation to cows.
