You perfectly described how the lint/gunk gets trapped up there. Yours actually wasn't that bad. I took my mom's machine apart a few years ago and discovered the same thing

Oh my lord. Yesss I love these kind of videos they're so satisfying when it's clean. My boyfriends washer is stinky & I'm trying to find other parts to clean/ ways to take apart the washer. So gross.

you should also remove the balance ring which is the part around the tub that you see when you take that cover off. Both parts will be very dirty. There are videos on how to remove the balance ring. It has water inside of it. That is normal.

Thanks for the video. I have the exact same washer and I keep finding small pieces of rust at the bottom of the bowl, but the bowl doesn't look rusty. Could that be coming from the agitator?

You're welcome. Probably rust from under the upper body that the lid attaches too.

Soap and water works with a rag or sponge. Easier to use a garden hose outside

I had to take the control panel off 1st which by removing the outer plastic covers and then on each side there's one long screw that has to be removed then then the control panel is on a hinge which you rotate upwards Until it stays in place, Then the top where the lid is mounted to should pull off from the back , work your way to the front and the front has 2 plastic compression fittings
