1st year I did $69,043.50, 2nd year I did $62, 743.00; 3rd year I saw rates dropping in the Sprinter Lane with influx of other O/O's and cheaper freight rates so I added a 16ft Box Truck w/ liftgate to my Fleet and this year I should be hitting around $110 - $115K. I operate with paid for equipment. I typically run a lot of Canada loads, but this past summer I did a few Alaska loads as well, but otherwise I prefer Regional work until the markets correct. Cheap freight to me is anything that is below my cost to operate ($1.70) my equipment. Sometimes I bid more because as previously stated I prefer regional so much of the time I have a great idea of where the load is shipping from based off zip code (I.e GE, Honeywell, Borg Warner, Bosch and Etc.) Hope this helps someone. Stay Safe, Stay Blessed

Please be advised: The drastic jump in year 3 is due to bringing on a driver for the Sprinter and I drove and operated the Box Truck. One person couldn't rational do that themselves. Results may vary; so do your research.

@@jbstone04 we started out on Sylectus and then switched to Full Circle TMS. I also do dedicated work for a local tire shop for pickup and delivering their used tires, and for a roofing company I pick up their shingle/ siding orders from the distributor and deliver to Job site. Neither are consistent but definitely come in clutch but most of my running is done off "The Load board". Hope this helps.

For myself, I want to work OTR because of the lifestyle, crazy as that might seem to some people. My second choice would be doing seasonal work at a resort, farm, ranch or campground. Many of those kinds of seasonal jobs come with a RV spot where you can stay. As far as take-home pay, I thrive if I net $36,000 a year and I can be happy and comfortable at 24,000.

Originally I got into the transportation work because after working years in the different welding and machine shops, it was killing my back standing up for 10 hours a day on that cement floor so I decided to find a sit down job. First job I had was driving a pickup truck pulling asphalt hot boxes around the country. That only lasted a month or so because the owner couldn't pay what he promised to pay so then I got into the van expediting!! Drove for four or five different companies and five or six different fleet owners until I was finally able to buy my own van last August. I was doing pretty good till December 1st when I was about a mile away from my pickup someone rear-ended me and totaled out my van. I was able to buy another one and currently in the process of getting that built out the way I like it so maybe next week I'll be back on the road for the last paycheck of the year. Thanks for putting out the great videos!! Be safe out there!!!

The question I want to answer is why I DON"T want to get into the cargo van business. And it has nothing to do with the lifestyle and hustle that comes with it. It has to do with RATES. There are channels that blatantly distort reality on how much they make and that's how they have 10, 20, 30 times or more the amount of views that you Allan get, but I see you're honest and many are not. I do not see how anyone can operate ANY van for under 60 cents per mile. And if all you can get is 80 to 90 cents per mile I don't see where the word business fits.

Hi Allen, I have been driving for a company out of a Ohio now for about 3 weeks, I like driving OTR, I have done in a straight truck and pilot cars, l have been following you now for about 3 years now, so I took your advice start out driving for a company, before I got my own van, it is not easy out here and I new it getting into it, thing are slow at the moment. But I new that getting in to it, this is not for everyone, sometimes you sit for a couple of days waiting for load , but I know things will pick, in the new year, the company is going to deadhead us home for Christmas and then will head back out, your videos are very helpful

Easy to go out of business from these unnecessary expenses. If yall want to get in this business like any other business SAVE YOUR COINS AND GET YOUR CREDIT STRAIGHT. u will then be more structured and disciplined. This will give u more power and u idiots will stop bidding 40 cents a mile

My intention isn't negativity. It's to state the realities. I've mentioned many times that I've been doing this for quite some time, and I absolutely love it. I want people to understand that. What do I look like telling people how it's so awful when here I am still in it. I simply want people to take the time to process all of the information available. Over 90% of the people who enter this business do not last a year. I'm trying to help people understand why that is. I share information, not negativity. I cannot control how people emotionally process my information.
