Why do you need a fuel pump upgrade on your GDI 2.0 turbo Hyundai N engine?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Its long, wordy and repeats a few times, but I wanted to make sure I covered everything 3 times over!
If you need further information, please reach out to me via email. social media or call.
Also... take a look at our new shopping option for t-shirts and hoodies. I have to pay for these fuel pump's somehow :) Cut up $1000 worth of fuel pump, so that would be around 400 t-shirt sales... if not, well then I will keep destroying new parts for you guys!

One of the most popular upgrades in the Volkswagen world is a high pressure fuel pump upgrade. Back when I had my Golf R, the tuner would not do stage 2 or stage 2 plus tuning profiles without an upgraded high pressure fuel pump from APR or integrated engineering.

Great informative video! I'm new to the VN world. Just got mine 3 weeks ago. 21 DCT. Could that strainer be semi clogged? I'm not getting any lights and haven't checked with a scanner yet, but the car seems underpowered. I've seen other stock VN able to light up the tires and mine doesn't in any mode or condition except rain. I know the car isn't a GTR but my launch control 0-60 times are consistently in the mid 6's. Best is 6.6. I'm not sure how the previous owner treated the car so it could be that they were just running 87 gas and I need to clean some stuff up.

Yes we have seen those small strainers get small pieces of debris inside of them. They are so small that even something the size of a pencil tip, will reduce volume into the fuel pump. Those are some pretty slow 0-60 times, I would get a shop to look into it.

You mentioned you did this to your stinger. Seems simple enough, I do the same kinda thing to shower heads cuz I want all the pressure. Being that I have your ecu tune would you recommend doing this?

All that matters in the filter is the ID. That's will alter the volume totally IE. the pump inlet is say .280 in both pumps and that will dictate the volume of fuel that can pass so even the high pressure pump is limited to the diameter for fuel supply and the diameter of the id of the screen.

I think people won't see any testing and comparison video, because the above video is a silliness. The fuel pump would be the restriction only after serious tune, ECU remap, sport exhaust, GPF delete, new intercooler ... so on. When your car is already 370 hp after that tune and you want more. You want better oil cooler, bigger turbo and better fuel pump. But you have already spent thousands or dollars on your i30N/Kona/Veloster/Elantra N tuning. Why would you choose an amateur method, why would you buy a Sante Fe pump and remove filter (jeeez) ? You can buy i30N TCR oil pump (Hyundai Motorsport, about 900 USD in the shop), it's a direct replacement of the original. Removing filters (!) is not the proper way to tune your car, a little bit questionable method. "If you get debris all the way up to the fuel pump you got a whole lot of other problems..." - this is not very well founded an clear speculation. If you get debris and it's not filtered out then the pump will be damaged + the debris will be injencted to the engine. And by the way a stock car don't want more fuel than it gets from the original pump.

I have looked into the Motorsports pump and they seem to have the same piston diameter at the one listed in the video. However, the peak pressure can be ran higher with the motorsports pump because the internal check valve is rated at a much higher open pressure, thus allowing for more aggressive injector pressure levels. For flow rates... you would simply have to take the piston diameter differences, get the inlet pressure/flow and a little math. I can try to figure that out for the community, but... there is to much tuning that is involved with making for a great pump upgrade vs just slapping a pump on the car.

Not sure if either of these pumps would be bigger than whats on the 5.0 GDI engine. Would have to cut up a 5.0 GDI pump to find out.

The stroke of the piston should remain the same, as it's dependent on the camshaft.

Sorry, I thought I had made mention of it adding more fuel so you can tune for more boost inside of the video. No, the pump itself will not give more power, but it will give more fuel so you an get more power from more boost.

My friends don't do that. I did it and it damaged my car. Now I have to fix my car because the pump draws too much pressure and the injectors are open and the engine is too rich in gasoline. It doesn't even work. Believe me, this is a headache. GDI system is very delicate I'm not damaging the mechanic's idea if it's not that it doesn't actually work I'm very sorry I'm letting you know why I saw this video and tried it and now I have to spend a lot of money to fix my car but I'm a guy I love sports cars and I like to make improvements and tricks but this one went wrong

It doesn't work that way, the ECU can control all of what happened to your car, so it has to be something else that caused the damage, not the fuel pump.

There are 3 or 4 filters before this small filter... if anything big enough made it through the first 3... this small filter at the end is not going to be able to stop whats coming.
