When I was younger, around 10-11 years old I had many health problems and spent most of my time bed ridden. I would get sick a lot, and was unable to attend school and interact with other people my age. Because of this, I was in a very depressed state of mind and around my first year in middle school I discovered parkour and free running. I was immediately drawn into the art form because of how free and fun it looked, compared to my life stuck in a bed; unable to move. Whenever I was healthy enough to go to a park, I would do it, even if it was by myself. Throughout my journey with this art of movement, I found that it was one of the things gave me a sense of freedom; the freedom that I always longed for. Along with the philosophy of being helpful and useful in any situation, as well as overcoming obstacles both mental and physical.. It helped me feel so alive; a way for me to be creative with the stagnant environments that I was surrounded by. It expanded my thought process and the world that we live in, making it so much more exciting. I don't like saying "I do parkour" because there's so much more to it then just "doing it". It's a lifestyle that I've adopted and nurtured. It's lessons are something I breathe.. And I continue to practice this discipline, for all that I've learned about myself, and for how much it free'd me from this place, designed to keep us contained. That's the jist :)

Parkour is the most amazing thing. I've been doing parkour for a year now and the thing I like the most about it is you feel like you have no boundaries and you feel completely free, like your in a completely new world.

I really don't think that we can truly appreciate architecture until we consider it from the perspective of parkour. How far is the roof from the other one? it is far enough that you can't jump, which you have to measure really precisely by eye. Soon, the exact height of the ceiling is a tangible quantity, something to account for, you become aware of the space around you, you can see a waterfall and imagine yourself flying. You can actually understand how a squirrel sees the trees. It's intimate understanding, and the environment is like the music that you dance to.

Everyone has a friend who doesnt understand why you do parkour. My friend is always saying crap like, "Im gonna laugh at the day you get hurt doing parkour" or, "PK isnt for kids, thats why you only see adults doing it." I try to explain it to him, but he is a kind of person who cant accept hes wrong about some things. Doing parkour isnt for others, its for yourself. The ability to fly through your environment, the flow you feel as you combine moves just makes my day perfect. My friend says hes gonna laugh the day I get hurt doing PK (believe me Ive gotten injured) but im gonna laugh the day i dont get back up to do PK.

Today, I found out that one of my classmates knows parkour and trains at the parkour centre nearby and I can't go there because of my parents,so I asked him to teach me parkour. He just looked at me as though I've got two heads and asked me, "You wanna learn parkour?" He then laughed at me and went to the door, put one of his hand and lifted his whole body with only that hand and told me,"Only if you succeeded in doing this, find me. What a jerk!

Stella Kuek He isn't wrong though. You need to have a certain level of physical fitness before doing serious parkour... so the first step to doing parkour is exercise, eating right, and learning about your own body. You *can* start doing parkour without being super fit though, you just start with very basic movements, like jumping. If you are serious about parkour and want a place to start then check these links out: americanparkour.com/getting-started/ , www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2010/08/12/the-definitive-guide-to-parkour-for-beginners/ , parkourfederation.org/content/what-is-parkour?id=44, www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/11/10/healthy-eating/ , www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/10/11/how-to-eat-healthy-without-breaking-the-bank/ There are more online resources as well... also you should look for a parkour school or group near you, just type in "parkour" next to your City, State. For me my nearest Parkour school is about a 45 minute drive away, which isn't the best but it's better than nothing.

Parkour is freedom I've been doing parkour for 6 years i have learned that wall is a challenge. Most people would just walk around a rail. No i vault i do rail combos. I feel the freedom and the happiness parkour gives me. Its also a great way to not be stress. Just feeling the flow. Parkour can't be stopped parkour won't be stopped!!! TRACUR FOR LIFE!!!

For me, parkour is about my art, my creativity. I never do big, crazy jumps. Because this is something, everyone can achieve, if they train hard and don't mind their body to get ripped apart maybe. For me it is more about how you do parkour, I try to do a new movement or achievement every training, that makes me feel alive and inspires me every day to get out there again.

I do this to get away from life and all the judging eyes in the world today. People always give me strange looks when im out training almost as if im doing something socially unacceptable or im acting like a child. This really annoys me but at the same time I couldn't care less because during parkour and freerunning you feel amazing, as if nothing in the world can stop you.

Well parkour and free running aren't the same but glad you enjoy it. One thing you should know is that it isn't an escape for life nor should it be, its a method for life. Its a training system for life, it shows us who we are, our own life, our own desires. The ultimate goal of parkour is to overcome every obstacle. This could be a tall fence or wall or a fear of something like heights or expressing yourself.

I've always been a bit of an oddball. I've never really been afraid to be the one to do something when everyone else is sitting. I learned my lesson from that a long time ago. I used to train gymnastics, but it didn't quite work out, but i loved the feeling of moving. Parkour is even better because there are no rules, I can do whatever I can imagine. Moving is my passion and parkour is my love. I hope everyone who sees this video can take that first step and just run. Good luck guys

Yeah! I have a story to tell. So I started training parkour like 2 months ago and people would see me like a weirdi and laugh at my fails.I learned parkour after like 2 weeks and the same people who were laughing at me and calling me a weirdo now are like "wow, how do you do that?" So the moral is, I didn't gave up on my dream even when people said I couldn't do that and now I laugh remebering them fools say that. Never give up on what you're doing even if it's hard or painful or anything, keep doing it and I promise you'll make it happen. If you read all this, have an amazing day!

I do parkour because I have always had limits put on me. When its like that, I feel trapped in this little world that you have to follow specific rules to fit in with the social "norm". But I have always wanted to go BEYOND those limitations and be free and not controlled by rules and regulations. I do it because I want to push myself - to be able to see what my limits are, then pass those limits.

Whenever my thoughts take over I fall so that after a few months I've learned to shut them down. Of course I practice for all the other reasons mentioned in the video too.

Look up how to start parkour for beginners by the tapp brothers. But also just keep in mind that when you start training you have to be creative. I live in the middle of the woods in a small country town with not much to do by the look of it but I've achieved so much and gotten better just on my own. I'm the only one that does it where I live so the only way to learn things is to look up proper tutorials and safety. I mean that for everything. Don't just think you know how to jump and land properly by seeing it watch tutorials. Other than that good luck, be respectful, if someone asks you to leave if your on private property just apologize and leave. Don't get in other people's way. Don't be reckless or show off that's not what parkour is and it discourages that behavior.
