Why Do We Call it Cyber CRIME? Gary Warner at TEDxBirmingham 2014

Why do we call it cyber CRIME? In this informative talk, Gary Warner challenges the conventional wisdom about how to deal with cybercrime in America.

TEDxBirmingham 2014 - "Rediscover the Magic" - was held on March 1, 2014 at UAB's Alys Stephens Center in Birmingham, Alabama. 15 speakers plus several artistic performers spread their ideas with cross-disciplinary mix of attendees from the Magic City, ranging from civic and business leaders to professionals, educators, technologists, and artists. TEDxBirmingham -- like all TEDx events -- is an independent, volunteer effort. It is not organized for political reasons, monetary reward, or personal gain. Everyone associated with TEDxBirmingham does so because they believe in the power of ideas to change the world. www.tedxbirmingham.org

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Gary, I thought it would be kind of ironic to share this as a #TBT Throw Back Thursday post on FB today (Sentar Inc page). Ironic, because until we get more people thinking about cyber security in general, we'll always be threatened. @ikcjjt, "what can you do about it?" - get involved. Don't shrug and follow the lemmings, call the police. Call your congressman. Demand better action. Will you get satisfaction immediately? No, but giving up now guarantees we lose.

Asking the government to impose security on the Internet... Are you shitting me? That would be the killing blow in the death of the Internet.
