    Thanks for the excellent explanation! What is your opinion about less resilient piston rings that put too little pressure on the cylinder walls and therefore cause oil consumption, as is the case with most modern engines?

  • @markwarnberg9504
    @markwarnberg95044 жыл бұрын

    Oil consumption can be due to evaporation if the engin is running hot, using the right vicosity is important, follow the hand book and use the oil vicosity chart as a guide.

    I've ordered a 2019 Audi A4 Quattro. Before doing so, I read up on Audi's history of oil consumption problems. I read and was told that after several years of this issue, the Audi engineers redesigned the piston/piston rings out of a different material which solved the problem of oil leaking into the cylinder. Even my Acura service manager said that they had corrected it. I didn't see any more online stories of this beyond the 2012-2013 models. My car has not yet arrived from Germany but in anticipation of its arrival, I stopped at the Audi service dept. The service mgr. told me how much I would love my new A4 premium plus Quattro....and, oh, byt the way, you'll probably have to stop in to the dealer between oil changes to "top it off." My heart sank. I thought I'd checked it out and that Audi had corrected the problem with the pistons, especially after a class action lawsuit. Has the problem persisted with even the new Audis or did they fix it since then. I was under the impression that it had been corrected. I can't find anything definitive online except one article from a couple of years ago from a publication I think was called Atlantic which implied that Audi had made changes in the piston/piston rings to correct it . Does anyone know? I'm afraid I'll kick myself for selling my 2005 Acura TL which was a dream and never used a drop of oil between changes. Somebody tell me if Audi fixed it. Please? Tom A.

    I’m assuming you live in States and based on that assumption I’ll give you couple of advices: 1.Stick with SHELL V Power fuel 2.Do not exceed 5000 miles oil change interval and do it at AUDI.Forget JIFFY LUBE and similar crap as you don’t need recycled oil that they put some additives to. Also,OEM oil filter is crucial. I know guys running limo business in Chicago with 6-7 A6 units equipped with 2.0 lit engines and every single one passed 450 000 miles marker. But they were religious about oil change. So,if you take care of your car you’ll be enjoying it for decades rather than years.

    In my case carbon build up on oil control rings has caused 500ml/1000km iol consumption. Treatment with Poly ethane Amine (PEA) containing fuel cleaner (2 tank loads) has cured it. Note: my car is port injection. Where direct fuel injection is used carbon build up is due to a. wrong oil and b. oil mist vapor burning and building up on the inlet valves and intake manifolds, or c. no port injection can not keep the intakes clean This is hard to fix. In the US, Toyota has provided 10y "oil consumption" guarantee/recall. If usage is excessive they rebuild the engine.

Seeing the age of your vehicle it's probably not worth it. Getting them replaced may cost more than your entire car's worth.

    Nu ai facut un lucru prea bun ca ai trecut la un ulei asa gros. Trebuia sa ramai la ce recomanda producatorul ca vascozitate si sa folosesti un ulei de calitate, adica CLAR NU CASTROL. Incearca de acum un liqui moly, valvoline, ravenol si o sa vezi diferente in bine in sunetul motorului si in consumul de ulei. Cauta pe forumurile vag si ai sa vezi cati au redus drastic consumul de ulei renuntand la castrol.
