Here's a little chemistry about Gels. Gels form clumps when they are combined with other products that are not compatible. Most hair products like moisturizers, hair creams and leave-ins are emulsions (a mixture of an oil phase and water phase), adding a gel to that can cause it to become unstable and precipitate or create residue. You can test the compatibility of your gel with your other hair products by first rubbing them together in your hands. If it starts to feel gritty you shouldn't apply it to your hair.
