Why Do Kittens TREMBLE? Is it normal?!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Kittens can tremble for a number of different reasons -- sometimes it's perfectly normal, and other times it might be a sign that something is wrong. In this video, you'll see my foster kittens getting the "meat shakes" after their first time trying wet food, and you'll learn about the different reasons that a kitten may tremble, including fever, hypothermia, stress, medical conditions, and simply being too young to have strong muscles. If you're not sure why your kitten is shaking, please contact a veterinarian ASAP.

I never really thought about it, being around so many baby animals I have seen it a lot so I just assumed it was a typical thing for them. Baby bunnies do this funny thing where they wobble a lot when learning to walk (they also pop around and make squeak noises when they think mommy is above the nesting box, it is because they want milk and tbh it is hilarious.)

I found a kitten under a tree, too young to be weaned and in great distress in the heat. When I finally located the sound of its mewing and picked it up, I thought the poor thing was going to come apart at the seams, it was trembling so hard. I was on my bicycle and had to hold it under my chin while it shook the last quarter mile to my house. It's a teenager kitty now and in complete a$$hole mode most of the time, but it's HOME for sure.

The science part of me wonders if its a brain change for them. Hormones dictate everything our body does. They stimulate change and growth and development. Part of me wonders if the meat experience (taste/texture/smell) triggers a brain change, or hormonal surge to stimulate the move to the next stage, and leaving the milks behind.

This is just speculation from someone that knows a little about a lot of different things. Kittens this young are quite wobbly, they lack fine motor control and strength to move around without wobbling. When they get this excited/stimulated they just lack the motor control and strength to stabilize themselves. Not that I think they are really trying to control themselves. They are far to excited and enjoying this wonderful new experiences to bother.

Ashton & Cynthia both make good points. The result of falling in love with a litter and not wanting to let them go has resulted in our 8 cats. It's not cheap. Food (One case of 12 cans@16 oz. a piece lasts 3 days), litter (40 pounds of litter in 2 days) and vet (spay/neuter, shots, wellness checks every year). It's better to think that their new parents will give them love and safety. Start learning how to care for kittens now. If there's a fostering program near you, contact them and tell them you'd like to be a helper so you can get field experience. Maybe someone can drop you off for a couple of hours every few days? It'll tell you in time if this is something you can do. World knows foster parents are needed. Good luck, sweetheart.

LOL in one of my recent litters (I tame and bring in pregnant mamas off the streets), I distinctly recall one particular little orange fluff ball who was so not normal and broke all the milestones first... I'd been keeping a small dish of kitten chow in the nest so mama didn't have to go far to get a nibble, right? The little orange fluffball dove in to the kibble and started chowing down... And growled the entire time he chewed! Wish I'd have gotten that on video, it was entirely too cute!

The smaller one, unless actively bottle feeding has his head shaking/bobbling. I've been worried, however, my daughter said, his heads bigger than the rest of him, he's just growing, he's fine. After watching your wonderful video, I agree. They were seen by a vet at 10 days and given a clean bill of health. If it continues into his second month, I'll give them a call, however, based off your video, it's probably normal. I think he has a tiny neck, lol

I'm glad I can tell the difference between vibin' and wobbling because of this video, lmao When my guy's mom adopted her kitten, she walked funny and her head shook from side to side. She has mild WKS and she may not be able to jump high but she sure still loves to explore (she's a year old now!)

Is that little grey and white kitten Spud, who was in an incubator early this month? I'm referring to the video entitled "Unhand Me".

Such a great video. i really like how these newer ones don't have music behind them so we can focus on what you are saying. The examples towards the end for other kinds of trembling were really useful as well.

I heard it's cause of brain development, but I'm not a vet so I can't say for sure. It would be nice to see a little video about that, cause when people haven't seen it before it can really freak them out.

I rescued two 8-week-old kittens and both - although one more than the other - would tremble after eating for weeks afterwards. Both had been cleared by the vet for any tremble-inducing illnesses and it eventually went away. They were both very sick and horribly malnourished and had been eating out of bins since their mama had kicked them out (she was expecting another litter), so I put it down to their poorly tummies and bodies being super sensitive to food in general!
