In the leaked episode descriptions, episode 13 (Titled: Missed Connections) the summary is “When Nightshade’s feeling isolated from the rest of the Malto family, they find a new connection in the most unlikely of places.” Sounds like that’s probably going to be the one where they choose their beast mode. Perhaps Nightshade befriends either some owls or bats in the forest around the Malto farm. I’m now wondering if Nightshade actually plays a role in encouraging Jawbreaker in choosing a beast type mode in episode 19 “A Stygi Situation”. It’s described as Jawbreaker picking a dinosaur mode that changes his personality. I feel like this would make sense as it would make Nightshade feel responsible for suggesting that he take a beast form. So I think that having both these Terrans have beast mode’s could make sense from a story standpoint. The only odd person out of the 3 would be Hashtag, but I think that having her be a surveillance van is a great choice as it would come in handy to help those 2 out in terms of knowing where to hide from G.H.O.S.T. When they’re in the area. Obviously robotic beasts aren’t going to blend in too terribly well. Apologies for the long comment. When I theorize I tend to get lengthy lol.

Your theory makes sense. After re-watching the second batch of episodes so many times, I am DYING for the last batch to drop. 😢 I really want to see Grimlock and see Jawbreaker adjust to finally having an altmode. It'll be interesting to see him struggle as a dinobot that will change his personality. And I really want to see the episode with Starscream interacting with the Terrans!

Tbh, it wouldn't bother me if Nightshade and Jawbreaker have beast modes cause' I grew up with Beast Wars and the Unicron Trilogy more than G1 even tho' I also find Earthspark way more enjoyable for me than the original G1 itself since Thrash,Jawbreaker, and Nightshade are my favorite Terrans in it when Earthspark became my favorite TF show after getting into it at first.

Why does Jawbreaker gets his alt mode in episode 19 when episode 12 is about him looking for an alt mode?

Probably for anticipation and to help build the story. The writers probably didn't want to go the normal route of having the first 3 episodes of the second batch of episodes have the 3 new Terrans all getting their altmode. They probably wanted to make one of them delay choosing their altmode, and it works well with the Home episode with Grimlock and the leaked description of episode 19 being Jawbreaker becoming a dinobot with a change in personality.
