Hi dr Adnani! The sunny salafis are not the only group who believes that tawassuf is idol worship. We quranists also believe it to be idol worship and we go even further and say that mentioning any name beside Gods name in prayer or any other act of worship is shirk. The verse you quoted refers to tawassuf to Moses when he was alive. And it was more of a request to Moses Rather than a prayer. The problem is also that the Quran clearly says that people who die are separeted from this world by an invisible barrier i.e they cannot sense anything from this world. I want to clarify that since we believe in freedom of religion and the rejection of hadith corpus, our saying that an act is idol worship does not mean a call to violence. If you need to consult somebody on this issue keep us quranists in mind since the sunny salafis are not able to talk about these issues without stooping to personal attacks.

Dr Andani you have done an excellent job of explaining explicitly the role of Imam and Allah. Ismailis start their prayers with the name Allah and end their prayers with Allah. They recite the Muslim shaida atleast 10 times a day reconfirming their absolute loyalty and love to Allah. No where in the Ismaili dua or prayers it says Aly is Allah or that we prostrate to Aly, absolute nonsense of the ignorant masses. Ismailis prostrate to Allah only and every prayer ends in prostratiion to only Allah , and saying there is no God but Allah. Dr Adnani you have beautiful explained that Imam is an intermediary and prays to Allah to help his spiritual children. The Sunnis too have Imams who lead prayers in their mosques but the Ismaili Imam of the time is a direct descendant of Prophet Muhammad ( peace be in him and his family) and the bearer of the noor ( light) of Allah, continued from Prophet Abraham to Prophe Muhammad to now the present living Imam of the Ismailis. The Ismailis are an esoteric branch of Islam and pray every night to Allah very early in the morning. This very difficult commitment was actually similar to what Prophet Muhammad ( peace in him ) used to do every night on Mt Hira, where he got his first revelation from Allah through angel Gabriel ( peace on him ).

But how does that play into the fact that mainstream Sunnis and Shi'as still recognize the necessity for the 5 daily prayers, fasting, pilgrimage to the Ka'ba, and the levying of zakat? Are the Ismaili practices and the dictums of the imam seen as able to replace or abrogate the pillars that all twelvers and sunnis agree upon? What is the relationship between the two?
