You are lucky they only give a numbing shot at the site that’s all. I need to find another doctor I guess. Good luck to you

@nokuthulamaleny7600 I had mine last week and it was absolutely a fabulous procedure. I know that may sound funny, but I felt no pain at all and no pain afterwards. It's like it didn't even happen!

In Sweden you don’t get any pain medication. No sedentant. I’m literally in so much pain today. The hematologist don’t even let me know I was planned to to the bone marrow biopsy.

I’ve been incredibly ill for some time, and I highly suspect myeloma. I have my first appointment with a primary next week. Let me tell you, the prospect of this biopsy is more terrifying than a possible diagnosis…

I've had six of these... they are no big deal. It's all in your state of mind. 3 seconds of discomfort on the aspirate. The trephine is nothing.

I declined a bone marrow biopsy I have had a heart attack and Deep vein thrombosis and am being treated with 500 🎉 daily for ET. I declined because of my age 89 years and I am able so far to manage cooking cleaning shopping and that makes me happy. 5:14 I do have to pace myself and rest when necessary.

Unless I can be knocked out, I will not have a bone biopsy for an incurable cancer.

I've had pain all my life. Now I'm 42 and they have been testing blood for two years, put me on a ton of meds that just knock me out and I can't be in sunlight. Referred me to an oncologist and he immediately ordered a bone biopsy. I'm terrified. I don't take pain meds for my pain because I don't want to get addicted. it is hard when your children hug you and it makes you cry from the pain. I guess I gotta do this. And it's gonna be intense for me. What if I go through all this pain and they still say they don't know?

Have MDS and Dr has mentioned a bone marrow biopsy. I’ve refused so far. They gave me fentanyl for cataract surgery which you are awake for but not this? Crazy. I asked my dr would he do anything different from results of biopsy and he said no, not right now.

All patients should be pain free! Valuim is onltmy a relaxer nor ananalgesic! You dont so,in hospitals as they are paid 1/3 the moneyto do it.

Any Doctor Who has performed bone marrow biopsies has obviously perceived how painful a procedure it can be, especially aspiration. Naturally medical students have to be taught to become desensitized to a lot of things, but there is no justifiable reason to not give general anesthesia before this procedure. The main reason, other than a small percentage you would not tolerate general anesthesia, is for expediency sake. They need to have an anesthesiologist to monitor and maintain a patient’s airway during anesthesia takes more time, and therefore interferes with scheduling

The doctors that recommend bone marrow biopsies will tell you that it is an easy test. They will say that it is accompanied by very little pain or discomfort. Wrong!! From the first BMB, my husband had the effects of the test worsened. When he asked for better pain relief, he was told that the procedure was regulatily done under local anesthisure and did not require more. Fact is, they say the insurance companies will not pay for general anesthisure. Next, while getting treatment for MM, you receive bone strengthing drugs, making the bone harder to penatrate. If they did the test on a doctor, then they would realize how painful it is. I bet you doctors won't do it without general anesthisure.

So what is the point of torturing people by doing a bone marrow biopsy it’s down right torture and there must be a better way but doctors justify this kind of torture for their own needs not the patients …. I know an 84 year old man who has great pain and has been in the hospital for a week and the pain is NOT being managed so they decide to cause even more severe pain by doing a bone marrow biopsy It’s insane

Hi Mary, I've gotten over 20 biopsies and it provides me good info about the genetics of my myeloma as well as the status of my myeloma. Unfortunately, blood tests called "liquid biopsies" are not yet as informative as an actual bone marrow. You can request conscious sedation for the bone marrow. I always do it that way and it makes ALL the difference. Hoping you don't have to get a biopsy any time soon for myeloma. I agree that it is not fun at all.

I had my first bone marrow biopsy with no sedation only local anaesthetic and it was very unpleasant! Since then I’ve had them at a different hospital that does IV sedation and pain relief and it is fine no pain.
