This is ridiculous. Splash Mountain doesn't have ANYTHING remotely racist. It just has characters that also happened to be in Song of the South. The movie ITSELF doesn't even have anything racist, it just happens to be set in an era where slavery is a thing. The kid in the movie treats the slave character, Uncle Remus, with 100% respect. If we can't remember that slavery existed and that it was wrong we're not learning from our mistakes. The mob is running out of things to cancel and grasping at straws. If Splash Mountain is a problem now, guess you'll have to bring down the whole park, every other Disney Park and the company. Because Walt Disney was a racist.

crunh it wasn’t racist at all. That’s total BS. It was a sweet film. Not one racial slur. No blacks mistreated. It’s leading role a black actor who won an award. Takes place after slavery was banned. Had a beautiful scene at the end with the black and white child playing together as friends.

Did you know why master bedrooms are called that??? it’s because they was the slave masters room!! just because you have the privilege of not knowing these things doesn’t mean it’s not offensive!

Plus, if Disney wants to remove any trace of the Movie, they would have to remove the popular Disney theme, "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah" from every single park. And I know a lot of Disney fans love that song. The believe the final drop of Splash Mountain represents Br'er Rabbit tricking Br'er Fox into tossing him into the Brier Patch in order to escape.

They never listen to petitions. There have been some to add seasons to Disney channel shows, ones to change or bring back rides....etc etc. They may have pushed the announcement of this ride because of the current political climate of the country, but the ride needed to be changed or at least rehauled for a while now, and they've been planning that. Most of the anamatronics in it are broken or removed completely. And with the years of controversy surrounding the Song of the South and this ride, it's best just to re-theme it anyway and create new characters.

How many have actually seen the movie? Cause most people don’t. Also when developing the ride, Disney had met with African American groups to make sure it was not racist. They had done test screenings of the movie with black audiences to see how they would react. They decided while James Baskett as Uncle Reemus was a high point of the movie, it would be better as a storytelling perspective and better in general to not have him in the ride, rather to give the narration to the character Bre’r Frog. The also changed the Animation story scene for the ride. Removing the Tar Baby scene and putting the Laughing Place scene in its place. If anything imo the animated characters of Song of the South shouldn’t be scene as racist. Br’er Rabbit is a representation of the slave outsmarting the white man (Br’er Fox and Br’er Bear). The characters today in the Disney Parks are scene more as Disneyland characters than film characters.

The movie doesn’t mock black people other than using the term “tar baby” which isn’t in the ride and you could argue that the black people in the movie have very stereotypical accents. The worst thing about the movie is the glamorization of the South after the Civil war. These things are mentioned no where in the ride. as a historian cut the bs, recognizing and acknowledging history is important in cultural levels and educational environments. disney is using this ride solely for entertainment and profiting purposes, which is HIGHLY wrong when it’s background connects to racist depictions of african americans. The Tiana re-theme is perfect for the representation of black people in the park through their only black princess and connects to a movie which depicts the racial issues of black people in the 20th century. Seeing how the history was viewed then is important too! How people brushed it all off and said slaves didn’t have it bad. Educate don’t erase. I did watch the movie and paid attention to it not like you sweetie. Do you really think romanticizing slavery and plantations is the right way to depict history? dear i invite you to take some cultural and lexical lessons since those history ones are not paying off, DEPICTING is one thing, being completely oblivious to what life in plantations really was by doing a movie with a catchy tune is another, and even worse is monetizing a ride out of this. EDUCATING belongs to the schools and institutions and even disney has done it's part by not releasing the movie on digital platforms because it's INDEED offensive, they didn't do it for nothing dear ignorant lady. Exactly we're talking about a ride, a ride in a park of a company that rejects any sort of discrimination and wants to make everyone feel welcome, of course your white perspective doesn't get it since you're oblivious to it. Getting rid of splash mountain to introduce tiana’s theme is disney's move to hide the fact that what was done in the past is indeed offensive and needs to be erased to introduce what disney really is to the new generations. You're out here pretending splash mountain has some sort of positive cultural input in how black people lived in the 19th and 20th century.

Splash Mountain will and forever always be a iconic disneyland ride, changing it to princess and the frog is a horrible idea. The movie is mediocre, the songs are forgettable, nobody’s gonna ge singing any song or let alone remembers any song from that movie until recently thanks to disney+. The movie came out in 2009, nobody gave a shit about it until now because of the BLM movement, splash mountain has been around since the 80’s and has been rode on by many generations, nobody comes off this ride and says “hey that’s racist, let’s change it”, they’re too busy laughing or in shock of how wet they got, no racial depictions no nothing. Splash mountain is iconic disneyland, ripping that from disneyland history and replacing it with shit is just stupid, what’s gonna happen in the next 10 years when another George Flloyd type incident happens? Are they gonna retheme another ride? #Savesplashmountain.

it’s just a cartoon why even bother and change this ride it just all about the rabbit and runs into the bears. And eventually escapes in the end Seriously I mean come on. It’s a great ride. there is no need to change it and if so why just move it to another section of the park there should be enough land. And this whole black lives matter thing I personally think that all lives matter. And what the cop did to him was terrible he was defenseless. I saw something on the news where black people are chasing down this guy with guns just because he’s white. There was another guy who was trying to defend his restaurant but couldn’t because these looters are ruining everything. There a statue of Abraham Lincoln freeing a slave and they are taking that down because it looks like he’s not free he’s in chains. At least change the statute and make the slave without chains. This is gonna get to the point where we can’t learn about the civil war in school. but isn’t that what’s history is all about learning about our mistakes so it doesn’t happen again. The cop is arrested already. And people need to chill out cops are very helpful when you need them so why would you ban all cops. What if your held at gun point and you try to call the cops for help but there’s no cops to save you because this whole black lives matter is happening I’m sick and tried of this bs.

'Song of The South' isn't really racially insensitive. It takes place after the American Civil War, so the African("black") people in it are not slaves, and the movie is about the friendship between a young "white" boy and an old "black" man. It's a positive movie with positive messages. The only reasons that anybody thinks that this movie is racially insensitive are that they haven't done their research and assume that the film takes place before or during the Civil War, and the fact that Disney, thanks to Michael Eisner and Bob Iger, has not given the movie any kind of official release since 1986(other than some VHS and Laserdisc releases in certain countries), which only helps to perpetuate the notion that the movie is racially insensitive. If Disney had released the movie on VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray worldwide, there would be very few, if any, people who think that 'Song of The South' is racially insensitive. Is it a great movie? No, but it is a good movie with a positive message of friendship, and it deserves to be defended and seen. For a movie of it's era, 'Song of The South' was actually pretty progressive in portraying multi-racial friendships when you consider that it was released during the segregation era of the American South. Disney needs to release the film on Blu-ray and make it available on Disney Plus, with bonus features included, including a feature-length documentary on the film's creation, release, and legacy. Also, to anyone who thinks that Walt Disney was racist, he wasn't. The "black" actors who were in the film were not allowed to attend the film's world premiere at the Fox Theater in Atlanta,GA, but that wasn't Walt's fault. It was 1946 and segregation in the American South was a thing by that point, as I've already mentioned. Walt hated the fact that the "black" actors weren't allowed to attend the premiere, but, obviously, there was nothing that he could do about it. Walt made it possible for James Baskett(the actor who played Uncle Remus and Brer Fox) to get an Oscar for his portrayal of Uncle Remus. #ReleaseSongofTheSouth and #BringbackSplashMountain.

Wouldn't it be better if we all just enjoyed SM as a fun family log flume ride telling the story of a rabbit outsmarting a fox and a bear, rather than looking too deeply into the ride's origins? Personally, I think this is an overreaction, as I love this ride, from it's characters, story, and catchy tunes, to it's climatic drop near the end. Shame to see it go. At least they will replace it with a theme I know and love... oh wait... I've never seen Princess and the Frog. Oh well...

I am all for rebranding the ride. I do not think it would hurt them to rebrand it to a theme that is more popular and can attract more people. Disney always updates their rides over the years. I think it’s fair to update the ride to a different movie that doesn’t have that racist history. Disney doesn’t even distribute “Song of the South” in the United States because they know the movie perpetuates racist stereotypes. If Disney can’t even release it to the general public, then why have a ride based on it?
