My hopes of going to going to Disney were dashed at just seven years old. My mom was pretty straight “No.we can barely afford food.”. A lot of my classmates had disposable income, and were able to go every summer and would hardcore brag about it KNOWING I wasn’t able to go. One girl, after bragging about how her daddy bought her everything she wanted at Disney straight up smiled at me and said “but I guess you wouldn’t know that.”. Kids are really fucking mean to each other if they smell the SLIGHTEST of differences.

I think a lot of the older people that you see in the parks are there because they finally could afford to go on their own. I only went because someone took me while I was in high school. Honestly I was mesmerized. Growing up poor , my expectations were low. I took my kids few months ago.

My grandparents paid for us to go to Disneyworld when I was like 5. We were in Florida to visit other Family and they thought "Well since you're there!". Really nice thing for them to do, grateful for it. But I was absolutely miserable the entire time I was there. We spent our entire time in the parks hungry and dehydrated (It was a humid summer day and Dad refused to buy anything from the overpriced shops on principal), running around like our hair was on fire just so we could have the privilege of waiting in a unreasonably long line for a ride that could never live up to the hype. We did this for the entire day and none of us had fun. The plan was to go for multiple days, but because none of the kids had fun we ended up doing other things in Florida. Kennedy Space Center and Medieval Times were my personal highlights.

My advice if you go to Disney World: #1 - Don't #2 - If you ignored advice #1 read carefully. Don't try to see every little thing in every park, one of two things will happen: you won't see everything and get mad, or you do see everything and are exhausted, stressed, and mad by the end anyway. I suggest that as a group, pick 1 park and 3 specific things to do at that park for each day you visit, be it a ride, a store, or a restaurant. This lets you prioritize shit you actually want to see/do, and if you finish early you can all explore the park freely or visit some stuff that didn't quite make the top 3. "But then I won't be able to see everything!" That's fine, trust me, not every gift shop is totally unique, not every ride is amazing. Go do what strikes your fancy, have fun, and go home. It's a vacation, not a 100% speedrun. ALSO DRINK WATER CUZ FLORIDA WEATHER BE SPICY AS FUCK

I used to work at a local "amusement park" called Storybook Land. I use that term loosely because it's more for little kids under 10. I was a ride operator and let me tell you that the parents/adults were the worst of the customers. I literally had someone in the balloon ride stand up while the ride was 12 feet in the air and trying to come down. I had to slam on the emergency brakes and yell at a grown adult man who was trying to climb out of his seat for the roller coaster trying to climb out of it because it stopped too far ahead because we had manual breaks and had to send it around again. It's the adults that don't listen and then not watch their kids while walking around the park.

I was in Orlando in early February for work, and a couple of coworkers wanted to go to a park for one day. We decided on Universal and had a great time. It was busy but not overcrowded. The wait times were short. The staff was very helpful and kind. The food was reasonably priced, about what you’d pay at any restaurant for a burger and fries. We got the two park tickets and I feel like I more than got my money’s worth with Wizarding World and the other rides. I have zero complaints. We went over to Disney and got on the Monorail because that’s free and we just wanted a peek at the castle. Man, every adult on that Monorail looked MISERABLE. Can’t blame the heat, because it was cloudy and cool that day. A lot of screaming babies and disobedient children. I think there’s more pressure to have a good time at Disney because it’s so expensive. People save money their entire lives for that trip.

As a past cast member for Disney World, I can promise you that we would love to die. It's Florida, so it's hot as heck. So our shifts usually had required us to stand outside for hours at a time with the only chance for us to cool down is by drinking out of a dirty water bucket that oddly tasted like lemonade. However, I can assure you that I also loved the interactions with the guests. I realized so many people spend insane amounts of money (Disney does too, they legit tell us this during orientation) and I will literally attempt to do a backflip if someone asked me to because they were having a bad day. I'd fall and break my neck, but as long as you got a few haha's out of it, then I'd call it a success.

By the end of 1974, more than four years after Paul McCartney had announced that he was leaving the band, the paperwork hadn’t yet been done, and it was getting a little ridiculous. And so, in December of 1974, a meeting was called at New York City’s Plaza Hotel - just a few blocks from where John Lennon lived. George Harrison was there in person. Paul McCartney was there in person. Having already signed the paperwork, Ringo Starr was there on the phone. And John? Well, John didn’t show. “The stars aren’t right,” he complained. Instead, he went to Florida with his son, Julian, and his mistress, May Pang - first to West Palm Beach, and then to the Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World, where, on December 29th, 1974, he was found by a lawyer and persuaded to ink his name onto the final page of the contract and to dissolve the most famous band in the history of the world.

I desperately wanted a job as an Imagineer ever since I was a kid because my family went on trips to the park multiple times when I was a kid up until I was in high school (it used to be inexpensive enough for us to take trips every Christmas, and that would be our family Christmas present). Genuinely my life’s dream was to either be a Disney animator or work on rides for the parks. The company has so many creative people working there, but throughout the years, I heard so many horror stories about what it was like to be an employee there, in ANY part of the company, be it in the creative side, business side, or even on the grounds at the parks. Cast members always told me I’d be a great fit, but that the college program was a nightmare. Unfortunately, it got to a breaking point for me in 2020 when they basically told all their college interns from different countries that, since the parks were closing due to COVID, they we’re screwed and had to find their own ways home, and the company wouldn’t help them. They fired people who had poured their life into the parks for almost 30 years as entertainers. No job security. No thanks for the hard work they had done. As they are now, there is just no way I’d work for the company nor ever go to their theme parks again. I can appreciate the things of the past and the artistry there once was in their products, but it honestly really all sucks now. And it’s a shame greed caused a lot of this.

I remember when I went to Disney you had to reserve a chance to get on that Star Wars Rise of the Resistance thing. Every 45 minutes (I think), you could reserve a spot on the next group. When it hit that 45 minute mark, I was just outside the millennium falcon and everyone instantly stopped, pulled out their phones, reloaded the page desperately, and cheered that they got a spot. It was scary and beautiful seeing everyone just freeze and pull out their phones simultaneously. People were congratulating each other when they got a spot because of how fast the spots got taken up!

@@drewwhitney7327 did you skip the first half of my comment where I talk about Knott's in general being more affordable? Knott's tickets and bundles are cheaper than even Disneyland's cheapest tickets. Disney racks up the prices to an insane degree, from tickets to food to merch, because it's a large conglomerate and they're banking on various people not native to the area taking family trips there. Sure there's also a McDonald's by Disneyland, but after paying for a ticket almost double or triple from other amusement parks and having to deal with walking thru the massive crowds from Disneyland to do anything (including leaving the park for a lunch break), it's just easier to go to a smaller (and cheaper) park.

When he said how annoying kids can be, and used the example of the toddler who at first wanted to meet Pluto but then changed his mind... I didn't agree with his sentiment of punching the k'd. I used to be a really sensitive child, sometimes I would get moments of heavy doubt and anxiety that made me change my mind about things, also amplifyed by how I was kind of afraid of full face meet-and-greet characters (their huge heads didn't help my frightened mind). I can imagine myself being the little girl who changes her mind and begs her parent to no longer see Pluto. As long as the child doesn't throw a huge tantrum, there's no point in blaming the child. If anything, it's (as always) the parents' fault. If a child begs not to see Pluto, but then their parent FORCES them to go anyways, that's just cruel (bordering on abuse) and it makes me be mad at the parents, not the kid.

I go to Disneyland and California adventure but I drive to California from Arizona and only do a 1 day pass so the magic is on a tight schedule. I couldn’t imagine going there as a family of 3 or 4 for several days. Even if you cut the souvenir budget to close to zero. Unless you want to be hungry most of the day, the food will get you. And trust me, if you skimp you’ll get the saddest foods. Disney can still be fun but it’s getting out of hand for most people to consider a vacation. For 3500 bucks you’re probably better off booking a Disney cruise to max out Disney fun.

The closest thing to Disneyland for me was always Six Flags Feista Texas or Astroworld (when it was around back in the day) but I always felt like I had more enjoyment at those amusement parks then I would at Disneyland/world just simply due to the fact you could ride the rides multiple times in a single day lol I think how they make their profit is simply advertisement that borders on Manchurian candidate levels, like some form of Stockholm syndrome-like you said, how could somebody be upset while at “the happiest place on earth”? By simply advertising it’s the happiest place, people will buy in to and believe it. When in reality it’s just an over priced theme park with great propaganda lmao

I mean, I largely disagree with the video. In spite of recent problems from Disney’s current management, the parks are still amazing, if not worth the price. The parks were never cheap, but the price gouging is also a recent thing, meaning back when it was less unaffordable, people came and fell in love with them. Now, they’re trying to come back, just ONE last time. The issue is that it’s hard to compare Disney to anything else. It’s not a typical amusement park. (Not even an amusement park at all) People don’t go for insane thrills, they go for immaculate theming and escapist dark rides, which have only recently been matched by Universal.

The first ride we went on was at 2pm, and it was the Winnie the Pooh ride next to splash mountain. We went on a total of MAYBE 12 rides throughout the whole day. I KNEW it wasn’t possible, I KNEW there was 0 chance of going on every ride. CANOBIE LAKE- the best alternative to disney world, apart from the fact that there’s like two roller coasters

When I was a little kid and I went to Disneyland I was scared to go on a lot of the rides and I was really bored but I had to hug Pluto both days while we were there so I could be happy. It’s funny.

I only visited Florida once years ago. The hotel had water bottles sitting around the room. And a plaque under the bottles stating you will be charged $7 a piece if they are moved/opened. I was surprised to hear the soda is only $5.

Big tip. If you don’t have any kids in your group go into the single rider lines they are so much shorter you can get in really quickly and there’s a good chance you’ll be seated together anyways

When it comes to the topic of Disney Adults vs Disney Children. Disney Incorporated told me this: The only diffrence between the two is that one has a wallet and one doesn't.

I went to Disney World with friends once back in 2013 as graduation gift from my friend's mom. Apparently that was one of the only years that the fastpass system actually worked. Walk to the place, get a fast pass ticket with a time on it, and come back later at that time. They would bring in 3 or 4 fastpass line people per regular line person. That way both lines would still work. The memorable part was walking around with my friends and just talking while waiting in the lines. That and the food was good. I thought Epcot was actually the most interesting since it has all the small towns based on other countries and is generally staffed by people from those countries. Otherwise, the park wasn't anything special to be honest.
