@@PlurLife765Why the eye roll at that. Why are people paying the USA so much respect, this isn’t me being bitter but they’re bang average. If that team were playing in the PL they’d be lucky to survive, and we’ve got a team made up of PL/CL winners. It’s not even arrogance from an English point of view it’s just the reality that we should be much better than we are. I don’t care who you blame but this England side should be comfortably beating this USA side, no matter how well they played tonight. We showed them far too much respect from minute one.

@jtfc sounds like arrogance to me dude. England played with pretty much the same team and formation that killed Iran, just the usmnt had a good way of shutting down the attackers and midfielders. Don't downplay the usmnt gameplan and surprisingly give a little more praise to maguire.

They drew because Southgate played Maguire, a proper winning world class coach would have played White and we'd have got at them. Southgate was happy with Maguire passing the ball backwards and sideways for a third of the match. You totally ignore the penalty that Maguire should have conceded by holding. He's a donkey like Southgate

No excuses from England we were awful. Really shocking result compared to the Iran game but it’s a wake up call for sure. Honestly looks like Gareth hasn’t watched a football game since the euros. The subs were woeful; we have one of the best young players in the world in Foden and we bring on hendo and Grealish?! It wasn’t that England didn’t attack, it’s that they weren’t allowed to. Tyler Adams and the aggressive press made the English players play quickly in tight spaces which isn’t their strong suit. Both teams had good chances, but our US boys played very well. Respect to both sides.

said this elsewhere but I have a horrible feeling that this WAS the intended gameplan from Southgate, in much the same way we played out for a draw vs Scotland as our second group game at the Euros in an attempt to save some energy whilst securing control of the group. Once again, GS is risk-averse, so scared of losing that he loses sight of winning, that reaching 4 points seems to be the priority rather than playing for 6 points and then resting players in the last game. And to think, we could have secured qualification and then given the likes of Foden and TAA a full 90 against Wales to test them out. Personally I feel that this wastes the momentum of our first game, it might be 'sensible' tournament management to navigate the early stages but it seems foolish in terms of building a winning feeling around the squad. I'd much rather have gone for the jugular, won, kept up this feeling of England being a tournament favourite, than this draw which derails us a little even if we're still top of the group. Gareth, I love you, but this does feel like a misstep.

The substitutions were late, Mount shouldn’t be starting, and we should have started with our more aggressive players. We can frighten sides and throw them off, we have that ability, but we didn’t bother USA in the slightest. The difference between Shaw for Ten Hag and Southgate sums it up, for example. He makes dozens of dangerous runs for United… maybe 2 for England. Toothless Lions, sleepwalking. I should have added… I won’t read replies because I have received so much hate. Why did Henderson come on? Why not Foden? I think Grealish needs to start from now on from the amount of players he gets around him and drawing fouls where we could score from a freekick. We're also definitely missing Walker with his pace from the back. Most of all it really irritates me how we BARELY PRESS AT ALL. Why are we constantly not trying to tackle opponents and letting them inch forward by staying back?? we look so cautious about tackling to the point where we don't even try. I remember when we played vs Italy in the Euro final and there was a massive period of about 30 minutes where we didn't press them whatsoever, can we please press and tackle more...? It makes me think in games like this about how Maddison would be doing aswell, he's one of our most creative players it's such a shame.

Spencer, Kane wasn't the problem. It was more Bellingham and Mount's inability to control the midfield, that's where we 'lost' the game... I thought those 2 and Trippier were poor. You're overrating USA, they played above average for 45 minutes and created one half chance with McKennie - we're essentially through and we'll go and smash Wales.

@@AJ-fo2pl finally seeing someone with a coach's mind. Southgate set us up not the way I wanted, but the plan worked and restricted the USA to have the midfield but low xg chances. 0.68xg for US.

Well, to answer your quesrion directly, because our Midfield bossed your midfield today. Our 3 ran ragged today .... WHY Foden was not played is beyond me. I think youre abs right, too... We have 2 athletic CB's ... leapers, so having Kane drop back to collect, he needed two massive runners on your flanks. Foden ... Wilson , Rashford ... It's almost like Southgate lacks in-game adaptability or something.

tactically midfield was shut down rice couldn’t keep up with mckennie and lost out in the midfield almost every-time mounts space was minimal and so was his touches throughout i think saka and sterling (missing that spark that saka had last season) needed to attack the wingbacks more pin them back and kane being deep did limit our forward options rashy did need to come on earlier inject direct pace at their CB’s bellingham was kinda picking up space but seems to not know his players no one had that pass into him other than trent who didn’t play

Yes its a poor result for England. Firstly maguire was absolutely incredible! Think USA actually played really well, they needed to win and now they have to beat iran which is not an easy game at all. We have to beat wales, but a draw is enough to see us get second. So we are pretty much there or there abouts in terms of going through. We should probably move the team around and let some players rest. Ready for the game after but we need a big win nowc

Southgate is his own worst enemy. We get a very positive result in our first game. Insted of building from that and keeping the momentum. He halts the momentum and plays it "safe". If we played this game more positively. We would have won. Would have gave those players the belief and fire needed for the next game. And the next. And so on. Keeping that momentum through out the tournament.

Don't blame the players, blame Southgate. He is too busy being scared to conceed a goal to play attacking football. Watch the highlights, he has clearly instructed Kane to man mark Adams, rather than trying to create a chance.

If USA had a proper goal scorer they would have won. Outplayed England. But England just made it too easy for them by playing such a low defensive line and allowing USA high press to work so well. Just ended up stretching our team out and easy to contain and defend against.

Southgate was never and is still not the right man for the job. Bottled WC semi's and bottled Euro final, both because of poor tactical decisions. How is anyone defending him? "We got to a semi final and final" Yes but we could and should have gone one step further in both

Simple answer Spencer Gareth Southgate is not good enough for the job. He has done a good job from 2016-22 but he is the same reason we didn’t win the World Cup in 2018 or EURO2020. I appreciate the job he’s done, as he’s given me some of my favourite moments as an England fan. But get rid of him and get Tuchel if he’s open, we’d win the tournament with him.

Mount isn’t good enough. Kane is essentially having to play attacking mid because the supply from what is supposed to be our most creative position (the 10 in behind the striker) is so atrocious. Same every tournament ‘why is Kane dropping so deep?’ It’s because he’s trying to create something. To take the game by the scruff of the neck, as Mount is unable to do so. Might as well play Kane in there and then have another striker on instead.

There seems to be a lot of arrogance with Southgate. Refuses to make the obvious changes and doesn't have the ability to adapt how we play. Kane had an injury and was clearly tired yet he plays 90 mins. Foden didn't get a second. It's just baffling

England weren't awful, Southgate was awful. The US team is young and has little experience compared to England. Gareths tactic of playing conservatively to land a draw and remain top of the group allowed the US to dominate the match. Notice how the minute Grealish was brought on the Americans became apprehensive. If Southgate had started offensively with Grealish and Foden we'd have won decisively tonight. Shame

as a US fan I don't think England were poor at all. I believe that since we were sitting low to middle block narrowly, it disrupted a lot of your movement in midfield therefore having the space on the right hand side with Trippier and Saka to link to Kane in the end. Our midfield of Musa, McKennie and Adams have been phenomenal. You lot may be shocked by how they touched bc in the Wales game they did not have that space. Though since England play in the middle block as well, it gave us a lot more room to work with. Southgate made the correct changes apart from not subbing Foden for Sterling imo and fortunate Berhalter did not make our changes quick enough England should have played Henderson and Rice as the anchors with Bellingham or Maddison behind Kane. There are too many moments throughout the game Stones and Maguire could not move the ball at all bc of our shape. Southgate needs to recognize when the midfield shape is disrupted and properly mark, the adjustment must be made.

Bottom line is England are virtually through while USA still have to beat Iran. England drew 0-0 with Scotland at the euros and then Scotland went out and England made the final. That's the true context. Clearly the England players and manager worked it out before the game and realised avoiding a loss would leave them in a great position.
