The Lennox unit I just repaired at my home has a pressure switch with a reset button on it. The outdoor unit would not power on at all. I pushed the button on the High Pressure Switch and the unit started running again. I felt a distinct click when I pushed the button which I did not feel in subsequent pushing.

It opens on low psi and not being in the system it will have 0 psi. So it will close when it gets in the system as long as it is above the psi setting of the switch.

I tired to fix my church heat pump. I had power at the contactor and the contactor pulled in at a cooling call. It just clicked. I saw the control board flashing but I did not check for fault. I wonder if I should have reset it and waited for a time delay. Or, I thought maybe I should short the high pressure switch and the low pressure switch to eliminate a safety issue. Any suggestions?

If it does not have a reset button it most likely resets when the PSI drops below the PSI that is set for that switch.

Maybe the condenser needs cleaning? My Carrier Infinity system keeps throwing a code 84 High pressure lockout 4 hour shut down. I've been researching when I came across this video. I turned it off at the box, and it reset. The fan is ramping up properly, and the unit is only 4 years old. This is the second time it's done it in a month, so something fishy is going on. When I reset the system, it runs fine. I'm calling the installer tomorrow, because the unit is still well within warranty. I'm also going to take a hose and clean out the condenser.

You may have a restriction in the system and makes it kick out. It may have to run for a period of time to get to the limit PSI.

I've got a lenox unit. from the begining it was making a noise, a rappid clicking noise at the out side unit when running. They came out and said the defrost board was bad, so they changed that. Once they did, it seems, it started doing this thing were every once in a while with the thermistat on cold, the outside unit will not come on, the emergancy strips in the inside unit will come on, and the blower will run. And it wont stop until you shut the unit off for a long time, then it will work. So by the time the a/c guy comes out, everything works. He will say some bull crap line, which I'll tell him "that's not it, you'll be back" This time, I looked at it, I unplugged the heating elements, so that I could let the system run. I opened the compressor panel to find this high pressure switch kick out fault. I'm not understanding why it's kicking this out, and why it would ever turn the heat strips on with it in cold cycle. Oh yeah this unit is just over a year old, and its been doing this since day one. Not impressed with Lennox

The last time I have seen something close to that, it ended up being the thermostat going in and out and turning on things that should not be on. Like in the middle of the summer turning on the heat strips. Let me know when it is found of what is wrong. Thanks for watching.
