I would have preferred more depth and focus on the reasons for Benedict's resignation; we all know that Benedict resigned amidst a flurry of many different scandals, but tell me more, besides just naming or identifying the scandals, please...

Some of these quotes are difficult to understand. From the Cross, Christ provided a son for His mother, and a mother for St. John. Those 2 words are all about the family. Christ meant that you must put God above all else in your life. Some of these murky statement may be the result of a faulty translation. For example, Christ refers to the Blessed Mother, as “ woman.” That usage grates on us as English speakers. I looked at its other meanings. It means “ my lady,” an honorific which revealed that a woman with this appellation was a highborn woman. Royalty or from wealthy family. That suits Our Lady.

Whoever wrote the title of this video is dishonest at best. This has nothing to do with any "real" reason that Benedict resigned (as if we were all under a previous misconception). It is merely the story of the transition from Benedict to Francis in a straightforward, superficial narrative. Maybe part II, (which I can't find at the moment) is different.

It is an attention-catching, curiosity-titillating title - that’s the reason they chose it- to get more people to watch the documentary.

He quit because of the corruption and the ego problem. The sex scandals that had been covered up for generations.

After a long pontificate like the one of Karol Woityla, it is a long tradition in the Catholic Church to elect a very old Pope to insure a rather short pontificate - as a transition towards the next long pontificate. But medicine has advanced so much and life expectancy has risen so much, that even electing an 80 year old pope doesn't ensure a short pontificate. Chances are high that he might live until 90 or even 100. So it is only natural that new ways have to be found in this modern world we are living in and voluntary retirement is the very best solution. It doesn't help anybody to have a geriatric bedridden Pope for years.

The qualities and qualifications conclave takes into consideration are only gained through time, and experience. Have you ever met a bishop, or cardinal under 60? That being said many modern Catholics, especially in America, see the Vatican as a museum. Filled with holy relics, the bones of ACTUAL saints, and beautiful art. The astronomical, and scientific institute is the most advanced by far. But the corruption that has disgraced our faith for millenia refuses to die. We like the pope, but the days of believing he's the embodiment of christ are long gone.

I once watched a documentary about the garments that the popes and cardinals wear. The price range went upwards of $30,000. Could you see Peter and the Apostles walking around in these garments. Peter said he was poor. What a shame.

I ride a bike yet I’m richer than others who walk to destinations. And then I have friends who cannot walk and they wheel to destinations. Jesus said that the poor will always be with us. Wealth and poverty are abstracts in the end.

This is a very helpful documentary. Thanks for posting. This video explains much about how Roman Catholicism came to elect a South American socialist as its leader; but not much about "why did BXVI really leave the Vatican". (Hopefully, next time the RC's will pick a pope who better reflects its theological life and practice.)

Reuters bought it from me and newpapers and television stations around the world, including the Vatican, used it in their reports about where he was going to live during his retirement. The Torah, the first five books of the Old Testament, which includes the 10 commandments, has a total of 613 laws, all of them given by the Lord to Moses. Keeping the Sabbath is just one of them. @@Praise___YaH "Yah" is a short form of the Name of God, which is not "Yah", but "Yahweh". It was forbidden to mention the full name of God, so "Yah" or "YHWH" (written) was used. The Hebrews preferred to use "The Lord", "The Most High", "The Lord of Hosts" and other ways of referring to God. Nowadays Orthodox Jews maintain these practices, and avoid saying the name of God, which is it sin to utter. Therefore your whole comment is nonsense, because none of the people you quote would ever have pronounced the Name of God, or written it down in full. I take it you are denying that Jesus was the Saviour. Why not simply say that, instead of piling up quotations where you insert the word "Yah" where others would put "The Lord" etc.

@@metalmike570 Ppe Francis is 86, and he is still going strong. St. John Paul II was 84 when he died. Leo XIII was 93 when he died. Benedict did not enjoy the good health of these popes, and stepped down rather than hang around doing a lousy job.

@@leezaslofsky4438 Well Benedict XVI is 94 now, but I just saw that before he resigned he was being questioned about not responding to an inquiry about some children that were abused or may have been abused when he was a Cardinal. It contributed to him resigning not just that he was feeling weak and unable to be a good Pope. That was the reason given to the public that he was not well enough to carry out the office of the Pope.

Is there to be a part II? This still didn't answer why Pope Benedict XVI REALLY left the Papacy. And all the rah-rah and hoopla in the world about Jorge Bergoglio isn't going to change the impressions he himself has given us.

Vatican is just not the same without Pope Benedict the 16th. He was every inch a Roman Catholic pope. After he resigned, I lost my ambition of wanting to go to visit the Vatican. Pope Benedict didn’t leave the Vatican, still dressed as the Pope, and gave himself the jaw-dropping title “Emeritus”. The man was forced out and this current mess makes the resignation weirdness clear.

Joseph Ratzinger known as the former Pope Benedict the 16th became the inquisitor general/master of the Vatican. This man has or had (he's 95 now) a brilliant mind and was very well disciplined in all his offices and achievements throughout his professional lifetime as far as I can tell. It's too bad that all that talent wasn't employed to truly serve humanity.

@@smarthought If what you say is correct, it makes him unfit for the job of Pope. I always knew that. He was forced out to avoid jail time and the embarrassment that would have caused the Church. Or isn't that clear yet? Is there a memo I didn't get?

this was an extremely interesting video, but as many people have pointed out, does not live up to its title, which is very disingenuous. there are many videos like this on you tube with misleading titles. but it was very comforting to watch a tradition which has been in place for many years to elect one of the most important religious leaders in the world.

You can say its a sign of making religions equal, but hes a Pope of Catholic Church and does he cares about christians slaughtered in foreign countries ? He didnt even show himself in Etiopia while christians are literally butchered there. Hes so "human" because he politely says about homosexual people like he understands them. He is so humble that he moves in cheap cars not papamobile just to show how "normal" he is. Do you wonder what is difference in costs when it comes to secure a pope in civilian car comparing papamobile ? He just show himself as humble, human person but its just a show. Why he said Tridentine Mass is bad ? Meanwhile rumbling around with Pachamama ? Thats answer why Benedict left Vatican, to create space for apostate who will destroy Church. To humanistic pope who is not a pope really a despot on the throne. Why is he pushing Inclisive Capitalism Agenda ?
